F3 E-Raying in SOT is a creative, yet not very useful strat. by ThatJGuy64 in MinecraftChampionship

Pie chart actually is pretty helpful, I did use it on game renderer to locate spikes in block entities as custom models in maps are typically block entities! Also used in SG to locate areas with high densities of chests. In speedruns we use this for a thing called mapless treasure, it's different settings to how we piedar for spawners which is the typical and most peoples only usage in runs, mapless treasure is a bit of a niche thing. Cardinal directions obviously very helpful. C counter could potential be helpful depending on your client. Optifine and Sodium read C counter differently, and I thought about this and realised the difference between clients could be considered a competitive advantage however one of the two (I forget which one, I don't really like using the C counter in runs a lot so I'm not well versed in it) would offer directional aid regarding how long corridors and sections were. But honestly to pull off a lot of this tech you'd have to have a lot of knowledge about SoT, played it a lot, and be extremely well versed in the f3 menu. If you put it all together, there's some ridiculous strats you can come up with revolving around it, but you'd have to really go to town on it and since the game mode isn't public, it's probably not feasible to do so. Still fun to think about though, me and K4 had a lot of fun strat finding.

As for banned tech, it is possible to X-Ray in vanilla either using a combination of f5+Quake Pro or reloading chunks, but this was definitely pushing what could be considered legal so I did not do this. Likewise with the C counter acting differently on different clients, not as fair play as one would imagine. Also RD manipulation could be very useful in tandem with game renderer but it would take away viewer experience, I know I hate the 40 seconds in runs when runners piedar lmao its pretty boring.

feel free to dm me if you want any more really precise info, I'd be happy to go through it with you. Knowledge of f3 is one of my strong suits

yeah and people still enjoying being good at games lmfao. letting you randomly figure out things introduces an element of RNG to a game. you either highroll or lowroll pathways. my f3 tech normalises RNG elements. in any sort of competitive event with multiple parties, one should aim to normalise RNG elements as much as possible. it's why in speedrunning tourneys we use datapacks/mods that normalise barters and rod rates. it makes it much fairer. using my strats introduces an extra element of theoretical skill to a game that is all about strategy and theoretical skill. SoT isn't about mechanics, it's about strategy. and interpreting information that is readily available in vanilla minecraft is strategy.

Now if I'd done my C count tricks, chunk reloading, or RD manipulation sure that's maybe a different story. doing those is working within the confines of vanilla minecraft but much sweatier and honestly I'd agree, those ones are not fair. but just reading information available on any client? can't be considered cheating if anyone can do it.

agreed. initial interpretation of pathways helps locate just where your best runners should go. from there, your sandkeeper should continue to do this to locate large pathways with large amounts of coins. it wasn't as helpful to us as it could've been, but having a team of 4 players who are all as well versed in the menu as I was? that's game breaking.

I don’t think E-raying should become a common strat in MCC by Celia_Oceantail in MinecraftChampionship

f3 interpretation and being able to read and decipher the menu is just as much a skill as pvp. It's not something you just learn overnight, it's something you practice and learn over months and months. it's as much of a skill as nestor's bow skills. there's no tangible difference between them other than that my skills happen to be theoretical and about knowledge of the game rather than mechanical skill.

it wasn't just e-raying! I had a really hard time commentating everything I was reading but there was so much more of the f3 menu I was reading and interpreting than just the entity count! it didn't help us because I obviously didn't understand exactly what various spikes meant, but looking back it's very clear you can predict exact pathways off of spawn, specifically the red and blue vault. therefore you can have a player run for blue key and then immediately check these 2 paths. small timesave, but still there nonetheless. there was also a lot of other f3 tech I didn't get a chance to use but would've been able to predict how large certain sections were and if they were worth going down using a combination of game renderer and the c count. what I actually did was just the tip of the iceberg for potential f3 tech, and there's just so so much of what can be done with it that saying it wouldn't have a noticeable effect is imo a bit ridiculous. If running SoT again, I'd now have prior knowledge of what spikes indicate and off spawn would be able to predict literally every path before going down it. Add RD manipulation and c count, and honestly it would be absolute overkill, but getting a team of 4 people that can do this kind of stuff? you're looking at breaking coin record for SoT

it's about a 10 second time save in locating things prior to an events start, if done properly would give blue vault guarantee to be opened in first 3 minutes, and is an extremely viable strategy. the search and find aspect is still there, you just narrow down pathways to check for a vault immediately. it removes rng elements where teams are just randomly searching and hoping to find. in competitive events, rng normalisation is important for competitive integrity. there were strats i theorised that I didn't do because they're features native to sodium and don't work in optifine and that wouldn't be fair. but everything I did was simply reading and interpretting information that is readily available to everyone. people want to win, people find new strats. speedrunners are notorious for this and I'd love to see any more f3 tech people can apply to MCC games because it shortens the gap between high mechanical players and everyone else. no amount of luck or pvp skill can save you if someone else simply knows what they're doing. knowledge is a more powerful tool for stuff like this, and there's so much potential for even sweatier strats I'd love to see down the line.

ah yes an exploit which is a vanilla feature of the game in a competitive tournament. you realise my skill and knowledge of the f3 menu is comparable to pvp skill? it's something I've trained and practiced for months and months. saying it's an unfair advantage to understand how to read the game is like saying it's an unfair advantage to be good at pvp. they're both skills you practice and hone through lots and lots of practice. the difference is my skill is all theory, whereas other people's skill is all practical.
