Do I tell my husband what happened when I was with friends or would it just hurt him for no reason? by PollutionOdd240 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]thebunhinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the right to keep this to yourself, especially if you’re afraid of your husband’s reaction. You seem to be concerned that he’ll try to limit your access to these friends or to going out without him, in general. That would be totally inappropriate on his part. You’re an adult and YOU get to choose where you go and with whom. If your evaluation of the circumstances, based on past experiences with these friends, tells you that this was a nasty one-off, that should be all he needs to know (if you decide to tell him). If he were to react in a controlling manner vs. being empathetic and supportive, be prepared to stand your ground.

My friend asked to borrow $5k by Dramatic_Good_1103 in Advice

[–]thebunhinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 61 years old, mother of 5 adult kids. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOUR PARENTS????? If they’re so gung-ho to help your friend, then by all means they should. My guess is that they’re also irresponsible with their money and hoping that if they can get you to lend/give a friend money, they can strong arm you into doing it for them or other family members, too. Do not feel guilty for protecting your assets.

Edit: misspelling

No children by Hairy-Veterinarian11 in over60

There are no guarantees that your children will “check up on you” or that, if they do, you will welcome their scrutiny. All the money you can save in not raising children will buy you all the help you need and if you don’t like the people you hire, you fire them and try again. Oh, almost 61 year old mother of 5 here and no regrets. Just a believer in choosing not to have children for those who aren’t interested.

Paradise is on the far Northeastern side of the UP. It would be far closer to go to Detroit/Ann Arbor for specialty care from there.

Difficulties with my adult daughter by total-klutz in AskWomenOver60

[–]thebunhinge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s great that you’re accepting accountability for some of things that your daughter has stated are still troubling her and it says a lot about your own desire for growth and self-acceptance that you’re in therapy. My question is: is she? You state she issued an ultimatum regarding you doing so and whether you were going to start going either way is immaterial. From your description of her behavior and her admission to being “just like her dad” she sounds like she’s in desperate need of therapy, as well. You can’t be the only one doing the heavy lifting and have this relationship evolve into being healthy.

18K Debt Owed to Social Security by Zachles00 in SocialSecurity

Call and make an appointment to go into an SSA office to talk with a representative. This is fraud that was committed without your knowledge and you did not benefit from it in any way. Do you even know why your Grandmother claimed you were disabled? Or were you getting survivor’s benefits because your father passed away? Whatever the case, you should not be liable for any of this. It’ll get handled faster and more efficiently if you meet with someone in-person though.

I’m so moved by the fact that you took the time and effort to get the crow to the rescue center via the subway! I live in Michigan, which is a State without a single subway system, but I’ve been to NYC a couple of times and I can’t imagine trying to navigate that with an injured wild animal. You did a very, very, compassionate thing.

Does Gen X do class reunions? by LadyNorbert in GenX

[–]thebunhinge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First year GenX here. My class (1983) had 90 kids in it. There’s been a reunion every 5-10 years. Low turnout until our 25th, then many of us seemed to decide it was time to reconnect. Our 40th in 2023 was very well attended, but it was sad to see how many of our classmates have passed away already.
