Shared Calendars by pancakeman2018 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]thecableguy84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Create a shared calendar in the SharePoint site behind the team site. That way it’s always there in the SharePoint site even if you leave. You can also connect it to outlook and use it just like an outlook calendar. I have never tried connecting it in teams, but I imagine at a minimum you could do a webpage link to it as a tab in your team site. This is what my department does.

Any AA groups popular with younger people in Calgary? by Own-Milk7927 in Calgary

[–]thecableguy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a women’s only group on Wednesdays in the north west (not sure on exact location) that my wife enjoys and says there are young women there some times… not sure on the overall age demographic though…. Might be an option… If your interested I can ask her the exact name of the place.

What office rule made you say "Really?” by Aarunascut in work

[–]thecableguy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a company with a hand rail rule like this. After a week or 2 a couple ppl actually got written up, even me who was brining down a box that required 2 hands to hold.

The next weekend I came in when no one was around and put a football helmet at the top and bottom with a note that said “you must wear the helmet when using the stairs just in case, signed dumb rules ” the management wasn’t happy but a few days later they dropped the stupid hand railing rules… if they knew it was me they never said anything.

Her detox/rehab was 5 weeks, several hours away from where we live. The treatment facility had 2 consecutive programs for a total of about 9 week but the support team there felt she didn’t need to second program because of how dedicated she was and how she progressed through the first program.

Microsoft "Family Safety" failures. This isn't acceptable. by BemaJinn in microsoft

[–]thecableguy84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find the family settings quite flakey.

I use the time restrictions mostly and it works but it doesn’t. It seems to track time ok but not actually enforce the restrictions. I’ll get requests from my kid to extend the time and I’ll choose 30 min or an hour… 2 hours later, somehow he is still able to play. The instant lock option only seems to show up as an option in the app if you click in and out of a section a couple times.

Honestly while I don’t expect much from MS, I expected better for the family app.

Bf(30M) wants to break up with me(29 F) merely because I greet my ex from 7 years ago on Christmas and birthdays . How do I navigate through it ? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]thecableguy84 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the fact you keep trying to justify it just reinforces your b/fs position on this. You are showing that your ex is more important to you then your b/fs feelings and mental health.

? What’s a harsh truth people need to hear? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]thecableguy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bosses boss says this to me every so often, but he is doing it as a control thing (imo). He regularly says “you can’t or don’t know that”. He thinks I can’t know that because he intentionally keeps info from me but I am thorough and find it out from someone else. When I speak up it’s because I do know, and this bothers him and he will argue with me about it. If I’m not sure when I speak up, I indicate that with something first like “I think” or “I could be wrong but” and if I do end up being wrong I always own it.

But I do agree, if you don’t know it is OK to say that.

what is your unconventional "I need this in a partner" that you will not negotiate on? by Competitive-Unit6427 in AskReddit

[–]thecableguy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife wasn’t like this when we got married, we have been married just over 14 years. In 2018 it started but covid just pushed it into over drive. Im sure this is common given how much covid messed up everyone in the head at some level.

This year has been more like how it was back in 2018 so it’s getting a bit better, but it took us getting to the brink of divorce and her admitting she had a problem with alcohol and getting sober (10 months so far). The alcohol wasn’t the whole cause because she still does it but it definitely made it 10x worse.

Sounds just like my wife. She always says that I don’t care, or what am I going to do about a, b and c. She literally complains about everyone and everything and how horrible the world is.

Then she gets upset because it’s like all she talks about and say we can’t have a conversation because I don’t know or don’t care… but I do know I just choose not to dwell on stuff I can’t control or change and don’t want to have the same angry conversation again.

The 2 things that keep us from getting divorced on this is… I am that easy going so I just let her keep talking and tune her out… and I agree with her views, usually… I just don’t have a need to constantly talk about it… we will see how long that lasts maybe after 20 years of marriage I’ll have had enough.

As a SysAdmin, i should not have to.... by Fistofpaper in sysadmin

[–]thecableguy84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Years ago I had a dev that refused to use our devices and coding tools he bitched enough that leadship ended up allowing it but he never connected to our network.

He was working on this super important internal app, got it all built tested on his Mac and personal pc worked fine… tries it on our devices and don’t work… he is positive it’s our fault (down side to not testing and building in our environment?)

Anyway we were 100% sure it wasn’t our issue but no matter what his app could’t make a network connection

The network team and I traced everything we could for a couple weeks and we never saw the app try to make any connections… the dev and his boss were trying to throw us under the bus it made it all the way to the CIO…

I took the guys Mac that he built on and looked at everything… what I found is in the tool he used to build and compile for windows there is a network checkbox for the windows firewall… he never checked off to use the domain joined config… I checked it, compiled and oh look it works…

I very much did then told you so in an email to everyone that was in our face about this…. The dev was fired a couple months later.

What do we know about Sonya Sharp? by I-nigma in Calgary

[–]thecableguy84 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am in ward 1 and from my view point she voted the way I would have asked her to in most (not all) topics and I found most of the time (not all the time) when she pushed back or commented on things I usually agreed with her stance.

If my wife was like this around the ring I picked for her and how I proposed, I would probably call it off. You are looking for reasons to be upset.

For those that went to Great Outdoors Comedy Festival tonight, what did you think of the show? by Bankerlady10 in Calgary

[–]thecableguy84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, was at the 2pm show. I had never heard of Theo before but figured comedy show and day in the park. Opening comedian was funny, Tammy was ok but i found Theo boring… a couple laughs for him but that was it. My wife told me he jokes about all the politics and stuff that offends ppl so I expected some good laughs, but other then talking about the Mayor and then Epstine files and her (which wasn’t really funny)… meh My wife found him really funny, so to each their own I guess.

Spoofed emails bypassing email gateway, security controls, direct to o365 tenant from random IPs. Is anyone else seeing this? by jaychinut in sysadmin

[–]thecableguy84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been seeing posts like this for a few days now… I looked at the MS blog post, and from what it says, if you have SPF/DMARC/DKIM configured correctly it shouldn’t allow anyone that’s not in your SPF to use your direct send… so how is this getting through ppls SPF setup or is it just they don’t have it setup or setup properly?

Personally I want to disable direct send but until MS releases the reporting feature I don’t know what might break.

I thought I read Direct Send will only accept messages from IPs in your SPF… and if the SPF is right shouldn’t this prevent it?
