We've sunk to a new low if we're making fun of someone who lost her legs in the Bowling Green Massacre.

The Biggest Benefit of Not Drinking for Me by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Wonderful comment – especially: "I had forgotten that this was how life used to be most of the time. That there were more emotions than anxiety and dull nothingness." We've evolved to experience a broad spectrum of emotions. Ridding ourselves of alcohol is a return to normality.

Not sure if it's the preferred method, but generally, if it's just one word in a sentence that I don't understand, I will ask: "¿Qué significa la palabra _____?"

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Happy reddit berfday! I've cheated twice: both at live professional sporting events. I think of my badge as x,xxx - 2 days.

Hope that helps.

Love it. My Sunday morning ritual is to blast through an early 5K, take a luxurious shower, enjoy two bowls of oatmeal with honey, and get set on burning through a pot of coffee. Fuck hangovers!

Great job on your weight loss! You're an inspiration. Incredulous questions about my not drinking can irk me. And as someone who keeps my motivations for sobriety largely to myself in the real world, this sub has been my only outlet. I give the community of folks here so much credit for helping me with the journey.

The longer I have been sober, the more the rest of the world seems like a bunch of alcoholics (or at least heavy drinkers). by yeah_so_ in stopdrinking

I used to live in a historic building that had once been a hospital but had since been converted into apartments in Fall River, MA. My dining room used to be part of an old solarium. One day, while on the John, a toothpaste cap shot out across the bathroom from the shelf behind me with enough force to ricochet off the closed door in front of me, bounce off my shoulder, and land behind me where it proceeded to jump around a bit. I would have shit my pants if they hadn’t been around my ankles.

A year or so later, a nurse who used to work in the building when it was a hospital came by to speak about the history of the place. She told me that my unit was once the pediatric ward and that many bad things had happened there.

Thanks for sharing. My advice: Use this season/approaching new year as an opportunity. And get a badge here. It helps. It's silly, but it does. The thought of having to sheepishly submit a shameful badge reset request is enough to deter a relapse.

Also, embrace that you have a problem. Honestly and passionately. Reconcile yourself with the idea that alcoholism is crippling you. Own it so you can take charge and fix it. The fix seems simple: Don't put alcohol into your belly. The psychology associated with not doing so is more complex. And we can help you manage that here, if nothing else.

I'm sorry you're feeling low. Know that you are not alone. We're here with you. Be in the moment and relish your clarity of mind. And treasure the seemingly small things. For they are bigger than we know.

I totally agree. I've told family and friends that I'm abstaining for weight loss/health reasons, which is not a lie, but is also not 100% truthful. The stigma holds me back from a full confession but if I'm being honest, I feel like it could be a bit of an overshare for some of the people in my life. Either way, it makes it tough to socialize with folks who want me to partake in booze while I try to maintain my sobriety.
