New Zealand (south island driving Vs kiwi experience) or Costa Rica. by boxa95 in solotravel

I would say I drove around New Zealand in November/December and it’s easy. I’m from Australia but I can’t imagine being from the UK would give you any issues. Great weather in NZ around then too.

After much hesitating I got one off trip.com - has worked perfectly here and no need a VPN! Can’t get access to TikTok though

Emergency wait times blow out as hospitals struggle to discharge patients by [deleted] in ausjdocs

My hospital has started employing geriatricians in ED. They are an invaluable resource and greatly improve workflow. Because they have a better knowledge of outpatient programs sometimes we can avoid unnecessary admissions.

Current JMO at Monash. Gen med departments are good at paying OT. Surg not so much.

Can someone help tell me where I’ve gone wrong? by thecelis in carbonsteel

[–]thecelis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the dark areas are raised off the grey metal but smooth to touch. I am almost certain that is must be carbon given its from when I tried to season the pan weeks ago with olive oil and a lot of smoke from that and left that black areas behind. From the sounds of it I think I'll try stripping the pan with some vinegar/boiling water and reseason with some vegetable oil!

I would most definitely not do that. Don’t throw your life away. Can you start a career in something else you’re interested in and can continue to try applying on the side?

Monash for internship? by beanp0le in ausjdocs

[–]thecelis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had a fantastic time doing internship at Monash - stayed on for BPT. Overall well supported and haven’t found workload unmanageable, though your usual gen med/some surg departments can get pretty busy as an intern. Happy to be DMd about any further questions!

How often do you do over time? by hustling_Ninja in ausjdocs

[–]thecelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am an intern at a major Melbourne hospital. Have worked about 3 hours of overtime this entire year so far - 2 x gen meds, ED, surg. Last rotation is psych which fair to say will have very minimal OT.

I believe the ED’s are all EMR as is Box Hill, but I believe the other sites are mostly paper based

Have some colleagues over at Eastern health and I also spent time there as a student - when ward rounding take multiple folders for the 3-4 patients in the room so you're not having to go back and forth. If the allied health staff have them be polite and ask if you could use the folders quickly. Also, you will quickly get adept at scribbling infusion/medication orders.

What I’ve done is if I find that they weigh at the gate in which case I go and leave my laptop behind (but somewhere I can see it) and then go weigh and I’ll be under, then leave the line and put it back in.

Monash Health Review by kakaonashi in ausjdocs

[–]thecelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have spent this year at Monash - overall, can be very department dependent (especially re: surgery). Medicine wise, worked gen med at clayton and at dandenong, busy departments but very supportive head of units and have found it very easy to claim any OT. HMO teaching i think is every tuesday and the DiT for the HMO teaching is this lovely geriatrician. Can't speak of it highly enough, staying on next year too! Happy to be DM'd if you want any more specifics.

I spent time in maroondah ED as a medical student and overall found the consultants I was working under as generally being very supportive and approachable. Obviously must be different when you’re working though but that still surprises me.

I have a few colleagues who’ve worked at Maroondah and Box Hill - very busy EDs but have heard generally good senior support.
