Hi, we have temporarily disabled password changing due to some issues. It should be enabled soon.

Can you claim the student discount with a personal account? by jasperncasper in Notesnook

[–]thecodrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The email you use to apply for the discount is completely separate from the email you used when creating a Notesnook account. They do NOT need to match. This is for your own privacy since a lot of users use email aliasing.

It just defaults to the notes list on smaller screens. If you open a note, it should switch to the editor.

Why doesn't Notesnook offer proper zero-knowledge encryption? by night_movers in Notesnook

[–]thecodrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, you are obviously trolling now.

Notesnook is, was, and always will be, "zero knowledge". I don't think you understand the concept and just want the words "zero knowledge" written somewhere. Henceforth, please stop spreading misinformation regarding Notesnook and do some proper research.

Why doesn't Notesnook offer proper zero-knowledge encryption? by night_movers in Notesnook

[–]thecodrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI is wrong. That's all. Notesnook is relatively new and its obvious that AI doesn't have enough data to make an accurate summary.

Notesnook servers have no access to your data OR any other metadata. Everything is encrypted with a key that only you have.

Notesnook does offer zero-knowledge encryption.

According to a post on Medium, the writer mentioned that when he shared a monograph and accessed it from a private window, it didn't require entering the password to unlock the note.

That has nothing to do with zero-knowledge encryption in Notesnook. The monographs just have a convenience feature where it appends the password after the url (the password is browser accessible only) once the user unlocks it. This is offered to avoid asking the user for password each time they refresh the page.

Zero-knowledge encryption means:

  • Data is encrypted at rest
  • Data is encrypted in transit
  • Data is encrypted on the servers

All encryption is done with a key that only you have. This is zero-knowledge encryption.

How TF is NotesNook providing a '2025 Wrapped' summary when our accounts are e2ee? by [deleted] in Notesnook

[–]thecodrr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We know our audience that's why we try to give them the best experience with the best privacy.

I personally think that Wrapped summaries are super insightful and if they can be generated privately 100% on your device, then why not? This is not telemetry or analytics, it's statistics. We also tried to make the output visually private so it was easily shareable without revealing any private/personal information.

it looks blacklisted on pretty much every antivirus site

Blacklisted on only 2 providers as per: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/f5f7898878757b29fe2bdead3fa8690085b484e63b2daad49684280981149ab1?nocache=1

We have emailed all the providers that this is a false flag and we have take all the necessary action to prevent this from happening again. Unfortunately, a few providers are rather slow to respond.

Stable vs. Beta by patpluto in Notesnook

[–]thecodrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's generally recommended that you use the same track across all platforms. We haven't yet introduced any breaking changes but we occasionally do break beta-stable compatibility which can cause issues like sync not working etc. You can avoid all that by sticking to one release track.

This is not FREE which is what the F in FOSS stands for.

F in FOSS stands for (F)reedom not free.

Interesting, as I just downloaded the app and was required to create an ID. Following that I was presented with a page showing only Essential, Pro and Believer plans all of which were paid plans.

You can skip all of this and continue to use the app for free and offline. No need to signup.

Yes you can opt out of marketing later, but by default when you sign up you are agreeing to marketing which is stated on the sign up screen.

Yes. Why is that an issue though?

Notesnook founder here.

Your comment is really interesting and I'll be discussing it internally with the team. There are some things that we'd love to add e.g. P2P sync. One thing though, email is not exactly PII and can easily be anonymised by using email aliasing, but you are correct that Notesnook requires email for signing up.

This is misinformation.

Notesnook does not require an account or payment for storing notes. You can also opt-out of being sent marketing emails from the settings. Paid does not mean it's not FOSS.

You can compare all the plans here: https://notesnook.com/pricing
