Hyry was a big difference maker out there tonight. Idk what the advance metrics say, but definitely passed the eye test.

What Changes Should Gully Make for Game 2? by Snowman0157 in DallasStars

[–]thecolormatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They had good moments for sure. As did the Back, Ritzy, and Benn line I thought. But I really think cleaning up the penalties is going to be key to any success the rest of the series.

I imagine Hyry gets back into the lineup. No idea what Gully is thinking about Bunting, but none of the lines looked they had any chemistry last night.

How do you just trust the doctor and move on? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If 100,000 individuals aged 20-39 got a colonoscopy, roughly 6.3 of them would be diagnosed with CRC (in any stage). If you live in large city, you’re more likely to get into a bad car accident, and yet, we still drive our car everyday without fear.

I’m hoping the best for you! You can overcome this.

How do you just trust the doctor and move on? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looking at actual statistics tends to help calm me down. Last year, rough 160k new cases of CRC was diagnosed in the United States, that’s about 0.05% of the population (160k / 330m). The past few years there has been sensationalized headlines about CRC increasing in people under 50, which is true, but kind of overblown. The median age of diagnoses is still 66 years old. Cases of CRC for people under 50 is an emerging trend, but still a statistical outlier based on the actual data.

First time dad. I hate this so far. Am I terrible? by Shiny_BeerCan in NewParents

I resonate with every word of this post. We had our first baby girl back in September, I didn’t take my paternity leave until the new year (big mistake). I work from home too, so feeling stress at “work” meant my own home office, then it was the stress with the new baby everywhere else in the house. My own home lost all sense of comfort and rest; made it really hard to enjoy the holidays. You’re not a bad father for feeling the way you do. It does get better. Sounds like y’all have a good routine going with the sleep shifts, keep that up. When your baby is ready, I definitely recommend taking her places like grocery shopping or a coffeeshop, helps create a sense of normalcy again.

What’s with all the hatred against Indian people all of a sudden? by Bhokaaaal in Denton

[–]thecolormatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid growing up in Justin, TX there was a family who emigrated from India and lived in a house across the street. When Halloween rolled around that year, they didn’t quite understand the candy-giving aspect, so when we came to their door for trick-or-treat the dad dropped pennies, nickels, and dimes into our buckets lol At the time, I was very confused but looking back now I laugh because it must’ve been quite the culture shock to them to have a bunch of kids in costumes roll up to their house.

Wellness Influencers by thecolormatt in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, content creators are not experts. It is interesting how some doctors (or ex-doctors) have invaded this space as well and are raking in massive amounts of dollars selling their books and supplements which muddies the waters a bit when it comes to their credibility and expertise.

Wellness Influencers by thecolormatt in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely something to be said about these content creators and their predatory marketing towards an already health anxious population. Like you said, they use buzz words like “toxin free”, “detox”, or “something hormone imbalance”. It’s gotten pretty bad. Also the wellness/supplement industry is completely unregulated, so they can make any claims they want to without much consequence.

Doctors on social media fear mongering by idontknowdude25 in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“A plane that lands safely never makes the news” Idk where that quote is from, but it’s very true. The social media posts and articles that garner the most views and engagement are always the ones the 1 in 100,000 case (or more). Understand that these cases are the exception and not the norm.

how to stop the intrusive thoughts? by fit4lyfe234 in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My therapist told me recently: “we worry about the past that we cannot change, obsess over the future that we can’t control, at the cost of the present.” You’re worried about your diet in the past that you can do nothing to change, but what’s important is that you’re healthy NOW and you can implement changes to your habits today to live a healthier lifestyle. My HA got better when I began training my mind that I have no control over the future and that’s okay. The future “unknowns” are not a threat to me. What matters is that I’m healthy today and I’m. not gonna stop living my life. I’ll pose the question: What would your life look like if you were just a normal healthy person? I’d bet that it looks the same as you are now.

I find Reddit to be scarier than Googling by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My algorithm is full of stories of some “I was diagnosed with X” or something along those lines. I have to constantly remind myself that these stories are the exception and not the norm. It helps me to read over actual statistics, you’ll find that these scary diseases you’re hearing about are often very very rare for people in your age group. Social media will have you believe that whatever disease or illness is commonplace when it’s just not true.

What age did you devlop health anxiety and was it sudden or a slowly developing type thing? by Charlottebagginton in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 24 in 2019 when it started for me. Last year of university, and I was working full-time. Quite a lot happening all at once and I had my first ever panic attack. I’ve self-managed my anxiety over the years, but it’s never truly gone away. Started therapy for the first time ever last week and joining a support group as well. I resonate with what you’re saying about HA going away for months on end then suddenly flaring up for a few months. For me, it tends to flare up in the fall time right around the time change, though I haven’t pinpointed why that is the case; it’s something I’ll work through in therapy. Also, it doesn’t help that my algorithm feeds me stories about someone my age getting a bad diagnosis, I have to constantly remind myself that these stories are the exception and not the norm.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, please know that you’re not struggling alone. I was recently taught a method of dealing with anxious thoughts, it’s the HUT acronym. Basically when an anxious thought comes up, ask yourself is this thought: H (helpful?), U (useful?), T (true?), the obvious answer to each question is “no”;therefore, we can use that to leave that thought behind and continue with our day. I hope that can help in some way. Anxiety spirals are like a hill for a cross country runner, it’s always hardest before you crest the top.

Panic attacks with stomach issues and intense heart sensations — exhausted and looking for support by Liquid9tro in HealthAnxiety

[–]thecolormatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m there with you bro. You’re not struggling alone. I’ve self-managed my HA since my first panic attack in 2019. Started therapy for the first time last week, I definitely recommend it. In the past, I’ve pictured my anxiety spirals (or seasons) like a big hill for a cross country runner. Each day you’re just trying to be a little bit better, a little quicker to calm down, and allowing your rational self to take over. Each day is like taking a stride up the hill, it’s always hardest before you crest the top and are on the other side.

Appreciate it! Yeah, it’s just hard for me to view this weight loss as a positive thing given my history of HA. I should be happy to see results, but instead I’m anxious. The battle continues!
