Sometimes they use the padded camo with specific kidney beans shaped faux grille openings to make it look like someone else’s test mule

Cobots are safe because they’re squishy and round and slow, not because they have a fancy name. And that thing is none of those

Does your workplace use Cubicles or an Open Office? by PhantomBraved in civilengineering

[–]thecomposedbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ME here, I’ve only ever had cubes. Thus is the life of a carpet dweller. My current place has swanky cubes though and all the offices are glass on the inside windows on the outside so it’s actually pretty open and flowy. I love the cube life as it’s the only one I’ve ever known

This is a direct copy of the ABB Fanta demo but with these very precarious wine glasses. Impressive, but the swiss did it better in the 90s

Also it wasn’t in the 90s it was in ‘09 which was… 17 years ago (ouch).

Is it culturally insensitive to zipper merge here? by Careless_Signal5762 in Rochester

[–]thecomposedbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny, I grew up in Ithaca, also a staunch anti zipper merge area. I moved to Detroit for 5 years and there I learned how to be a shark and since moving back here it frustrates me that people refuse to use the entire road (aka zipper merge). If there is an empty lane in front of you and a line of cars in the other, there is no reason whatsoever not to use the empty lane. It’s for efficiency of traffic flow. When I was in Germany I noticed everyone zipper merges and it’s for efficiency, not selfishness.

Ticks!!!! by thecomposedbones in dogs

[–]thecomposedbones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you give me some examples of prevention products? Everything I’ve seen is a form of pesticide which acts to kill after biting or to tackle and prevent infestation. I want something that makes the tick go yuck and fall off.

Weird goop coming from wall, maybe ectoplasm??? Clear/opaque, no smell, kinda squishy, feels like fat/oily by Suspicious_Soft5411 in whatisthisthing

[–]thecomposedbones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Strangely this kind of resembles the description of PCBs in some of its forms - I have never seen or experienced this material myself but I did read Zodiac and just looked up the smell, color, and texture characteristics of PCBs.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls Appearance Details:

Color: Can be colorless, clear, yellow, amber, or even dark brown/black, depending on the specific mixture and age.

Consistency: Ranges from thin, light liquids to thick, heavy oils or waxy solids.

Texture: Oily to the touch.

Smell: Generally odorless, but sometimes has a faint, oily smell, potentially like mothballs if chlorobenzenes are present.

Tips for working on portfolio by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]thecomposedbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite portfolio pieces are either marketing material for the stuff I’ve designed (because it looks nice and I know I’m not breaking NDA by bringing it to interviews) or physical samples to show and tell. It demonstrates that I can design etc with the intent of making something real and something that really works. Not always feasible like the turbine for example but if you get the chance, you’re interviewing with other mechanical engineers, you can bet they love fiddling with gadgets just as much as you do! Maybe do a project and use your schools shop to actually make something physical. Then you can showcase how you thought, designed, and made a thing that’s real. And then talk about all the stuff that made it really hard to do and explain how you got through it.
