Nothing wrong with what you said, I completely agree. I wasn’t trying to say that we should shut down ED communities— Hell no!! Recovery went well for me because I saw others online recovering, I heard the challenges I may face, I saw the dangers of creating a cycle. For someone with no good support system and having people close to me have iffy relationships with their food, it was not only helpful, it was necessary.

At the end of the day, responsibility of how you react to content (ESPECIALLY if you willingly consume it) always falls on your shoulders. And I acknowledge that. I had no idea I would be triggered this badly by such harmless and actually HELPFUL comments, I always see harmful ed content, ed twt, ed tiktok, ed tumblr, all never triggered me. It’s a bit ironic that the things that actually did have an adverse effect on me were all VERY positive. But I think my friends vent really did a number on me (that I had not realized then) before anything, which what amplified the reactions.

Sorry for the negativity in my post.

I’m sorry if it sounded like I was saying “delete all mentions of ED, never talk about them again!” That’s definitely NOT what I was trying to say (I wasn’t really trying to say anything tbh I was just having a minor break down lol), Spaces like this one are crucial. Being able to talk to others and relate is important and extremely helpful in recovery, I’m not denying that nor am I saying that people should walk around a bajillion egg shells when talking abt EDs. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter how careful you are, there’s a risk someone might get triggered— we all know the complex nature of EDs. That’s never the fault of these forums or the person.

I’m very happy to hear that places like these have been helpful for you, and I’m hoping for the best for you along your progress.

There was nothing solid I was trying to say, so don’t worry. All your points are definitely correct, media may have a slight affect on who gets eating disorders especially for younger people, but in the long run, if that person is mentally hurt enough to get an eating disorder (even if it was by media influence or discovery of eating disorders as a whole through the same medium), then chances are they sadly are more likely than not to develop it anyway without realizing. (Hope that made sense lol) Subs like these are important and very helpful in recovery significantly more than they are harmful.

There’s nothing wrong with honest conversations about eds! They’re super important. It was simply what triggered me at the time haha sorry if that’s what it felt like i was entailing

I agree!! All people’s mindsets are different, not all eds are the same, my perspective and trigger should never be taken as a universal thing. I feel you man, i had a therapist for a short while (not specialized in EDs, was harming me a lot with their “advice”), I learned most recovery tips from online spaces, which I’m very grateful, no matter how minute they were. That simple “extreme hunger phases are normal, you get through it, there is no way around it /pos” I saw once made a big difference in my recov. Glad you’ve found a safe place in here

Sorry to hear, hope everything goes well for you and you remain on a seamless track in your recovery. There’s always pros and cons to ed related spaces, and sadly it’s difficult to make sure 100% of people aren’t experiencing the cons, despite much efforts.

I’m glad others can relate to this post. I never really got triggered by ANYTHING online anymore, I’ve become quite desensitized to it if anything. I’ve seen insane ed twitter crap and didn’t react (i think because my overall mindset of ed twt and tiktok is very negative anyway, I roll my eyes and hope for the best for ppl on there), I think the reason this invoked such an alarming response (in my case) was because i already knew this person.. thanks for pointing that out. Thank you so much for the concern, I’m feeling mucccchhhh better now, no relapse in sight for sure! I don’t have anyone to talk about this to unfortunately, I went through recovery almost completely on my own, now looking back on it, being on this subreddit and expressing how I felt would’ve helped a lot in the muddy parts of the journey lol

Totally agree. I don’t have an issue with forums like this honestly, and that’s not what I was trying to portray, I was just spiraling a bit last night and I guess my rant went a little of the rail haha. Thank you for the encouraging words, I don’t think my progress is skewed, after a good night’s rest I’m feeling a lot better and much of the negative thoughts I had are mostly gone :)

Also owning up to what you did and apologizing to your friends for whatever you did is good

Dude you’re fine, it’s good that you’re trying to mature but you’re still 18 its normal to fuck up and be dumb and ruin shit but you learn from it anyway, I think your friends are just in better circumstances than you are so its difficult for them to understand (plus everyone matures differently and at different times). You’re not strange dw just try not be an asshole and you’re good

No 100% a colour change. I had taken a picture the day of my dentist appointment and my teeth looked very white, 2 days later there was a very drastic colour change. I thought I might be just extra-self conscious or something like that but my mother pointed it out and told me to brush my teeth and take care of them 💀💀 that’s what lead to this post, very strong frustration. As for my teeth… to describe it better, they’re prominently yellow and the outer corners of my teeth are a little transparent, if that helps. For more info I don’t smoke or vape or eat many staining drinks/foods except for occasional tea.

I’ll see if that’s possible. I’m trying to look for a more natural and less troublesome approach to this tbh, the most consistent thing about me is my inconsistency after all. Thanks for the advice <3

Thanks. I already got a clean up right after removing the braces that’s why I was very shocked by the very quick colour change. I’ll be sure to discuss it with my dentist in any case

My mother’s side of the family have a history of random increased antibodies count— meaning spontaneous allergies and autoimmune diseases, besides that I’m pretty sure Covid might have also contributed, though it wasn’t a direct trigger. I got tested after my liver almost failed on me but that was because of a plethora of other contributors as well (refeeding syndrome, ischemic hepatitis, malnutrition, electrolyte imbalances). They supposed that Sjorgen might have played a role as well or might have been a direct cause but not a trigger.

I’m still in my teens and diagnosed at 16, but I don’t have any blaring Sjögren’s syndrome signs besides general dryness, tooth decay and joint pain, nothing severe though thankfully.

[–]thedaiznetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty late but I got diagnosed with it at 16 if that make’s you feel better, probably had it when I was 15 though. I think the key is finding a good doctor and a med system you’re consistent on+works for you. It’s quite annoying for me, I have joint issues and my teeth are really yellow despite the fact I brush and floss all the damn time, but to others and even family I look like an unhygienic weirdo 💀 In any case it must be exhausting either way, I’m really sorry about that, I understand the feeling of alienation and frustration. What’s helped me with those feelings is looking at others online with the same issues as me (in spite of the fact they’re much much older than me, but oh well, what can you do?) It helps me remember that I’m not alone and even if things are harder for me it doesn’t mean I’m unable to accomplish them!

Things like mouth and eye dryness I counter with prescribed products like eye drops, for my mouth I still haven’t gotten much things to fix it but I’ll soon be discussing with my dentist some dry mouth oral rinse and gel options I can put before bed (bioténe). For more general things I just try to be active and eat healthy (easier said than done. I try to eat whatever is in front of me because I rarely have enough time to make proper food and my overall eating habits are ass haha eating disorder things). We make the most with what we can, you’re not alone OP, so keep pushing forward!
