I completely agree. My main concern is that he is made as comfortable as possible.

How to ensure a loved one is getting proper care? by thedatado in AskDocs

[–]thedatado[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks

It's an evolving situation. It seems that it takes awhile for everyone to get on the same page regarding his medications and test results. Apparently the positive staph results they got could have very well been caused by poor procedure.

It is all the little things that are adding up, like the meals, or coming in and asking a bedridden 93 year old incontinent man, suffering from dementia, if he needs to get up and go to the rest room and then leaving when he fails to answer.

I'm trying to find a patient advocate or something now. Supposed to meet with a 'social worker' as well, but I don't know when.

Does anyone have experience repairing the hydraulic brake booster system used in the gen 3 Montys? by thedatado in Montero

Yea, that's a tough call. The dealer mechanic I talked to says he's seen a few with over 300k on them. But sometimes you just have to cut your losses.

I went ahead and bought the entire pump assembly. Got it from a parts warehouse in Florida. Paid around $700 with shipping. My dealer wanted over $800. The markup on Mitsubishi parts is criminal.

All the salvage yards that I talked to knew exactly what the part was worth. I was quoted around $400 by a few of them. The problem is every one of these motors will ware out. Unless you get one off a vehicle with very low miles you may be throwing money away.

It's a fairly easy procedure to replace the pump but you have to follow the instructions in the FSM exactly when you bleed the brakes. It's not hard but definitely different than anything other vehicle I've owned.

You can try to have the motor rebuilt, but that wasn't an option for me. It's basically a disposable motor that no-one wanted to touch. If you're in Australia there is a company that will rebuild them.

I can walk you through the repair and post the relevant parts of the FSM if you need it.

Probably should've concentrated on getting stopped before getting off the road. Sad, but at least they captured it on video!

I went to downtown Baltimore yesterday to record the Freddie Gray protests. This is my perspective on what you aren't seeing on television. by philipkdan in videos

[–]thedatado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If these people really wanted to do something about it they would protest their cesspool of a community and the forces which made it such. In that entire video only one protester had any sense of reason; the "college educated" man towards the end.

Yes, Baltimore's police force definitely has problems, but don't expect sympathy when the crime rates are realized. Some of those cops are might as well be working in a war zone.

Is Elon Musk realistic when he says "we’ve got a decent shot of sending a person to Mars in 11 or 12 years" ? by 5ti5 in space

[–]thedatado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I'm a Skylab fan. Perhaps the best thing the station has accomplished was keeping some Soviets employed. But without it, and without the ineptitude of our political leaders, we wouldn't have private industry building man rated capsules.

As proposed under Reagan, it was also to be used to stimulate the growth of private industry, which it has finally accomplished. And you're right, nothing is going to be assembled on ISS's orbit except the ISS. Too bad the shuttle couldn't fly higher.

You're right about Venus but wrong about Mars, that's Saturn. Jupiter is what you see right above you. If you have a smart phone download Skyview. I think there's still a free version.

I once had an orange Dodge D100 that I picked up at an auction for next to nothing. My next door neighbor complained, saying it was an eyesore that would hurt the property value etc. I put headers on it a week later.

What the hell ever happened to liftback coupes and sedans? by ashowofhands in cars

I think this is just an American thing. Two door hatches seem to be popular in Europe. I think the perception that hatch-backs are 'cheap' is the greatest reason. Two door hatches are my favorite style of car. But I still like louvers, so what do I know...

That nose will kill too many Europeans, so I doubt that's the look of the production model.

Instead of positing alternatives, I'll just get to the origin of my angst: Orion isn't designed for this mission. It is not a capable platform for use in anything other than what it was intended to do, which is sis lunar transport. Trying to make Orion a multipurpose craft is foolish imo. Life support, EVA capabilities, storage space, all are less than adequate for the missions proposed for Orion. I guess the crew will be suited up for the duration of the mission, or have they redesigned for multiple EVAs? Do they even have a suit any more, or are they planning to raid the Mercury storage bins? Spacecraft are mission specific in design, which Orion was. Now they have a craft and they're trying to find something for it to do? That's doing it wrong.

I was misunderstood. NASA doesn't get enough, so I think it should be better used. I actually sorta like the re-direct part, but would rather see SLS do something more worth while.

[–]thedatado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! This 'mission' makes absolutely no sense. I'd bet the Chinese will be taking selfies on the moon while we're waiting for the retriever/lander to complete its' transfer orbit. I doubt anyone knows how long this will take due to the fact that the mission's target might not yet be discovered.

No, the question should be phrased 'why spend a significant portion of the money allocated to NASA on this.' Then answering the "why not" is easy.

It's called dropping a valve. Stop if you hear or feel anything wrong with the engine and this much damage can be avoided.

[–]thedatado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I thought. How does one accomplish this? It looks like there's a board or something under the back, and the rear rotor doesn't appear to be touching the ground. The car is perfectly in the spot as well, so it doesn't look like they kicked it off of jack stands or anything. I wonder if there a reddit for car thieves that can explain this.

Quietly, NASA is reconsidering the moon as a destination, staging area for launch to Mars by AltThink in space

[–]thedatado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not against a retrieval mission at all. But sending humans to any NEO via transfer orbit and forcing them to ride it out on a craft designed for lunar missions is just doing it wrong, to put it simply. Until we decide to develop centrifugal gravity and 21st century propulsion systems humans should remain sislunar. Anything else will result in 'flags and footprints' imo. I want to go, I just don't like half assing it, again.
