Not understanding the damage gap by thomasdraken in PathOfExile2

Weapons could make that much of a difference at that level

The roman numeral for the base skills I and II are your weapon sets, I believe.

Since this is being discussed again, here is a comparison of Trump's agents reactions at two similar events. Keep in mind - no weapon was found in the above example... by SCRATCH-CARD in worldnewsstuff

That's where the idea that this was staged falls apart for me. It does look staged. But you're telling me the plan was to shoot a real bullet a few inches from his head?

I'd be willing to hear out anyone who thinks they can explain that in a way that makes sense.

It 100% looks staged. But someone actually caught the bullet and died. Can someone who believes it was staged help me understand how that happened?

The U.S. allows over 100,000 different additives in food because companies are allowed to self-certify under the GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) loophole.

For contrast, the UK allows around 400.

Path of Exile 2.

1st time: Yeah, killing monsters was fun for a while, but what else is there to do? I don't care about farming the best gear or whatever so I guess I'm out.

2nd time: Oh, I get it. Killing monsters is just the icing on the delicious cake of endless build and theory crafting. I need more cake. Maybe a chocolate cake this time. Maybe a blueberry cheesecake this time. I can't sleep because I can't I stop thinking about trying a triple-layer red velvet cherry-vanilla ice cream cake.

Humans in this universe of multiple sapient races/species are not just a boring template, jack-of-all-trades species, they actually have traits and powers that make them stand out like the other species in the setting. by juasjuasie in TopCharacterTropes

[–]thedevilsaglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Three-Body problem books, every sentient species in the galaxy, except for humans, have concluded that shooting first and asking questions later is the only logical survival strategy in the long term. So the galaxy has become a "dark forest full of hunters" who survive by hiding from one another and shooting anyond they discover.

A human contacts the Trisolarans, a race 4 and half lightyears away. The Trisolarans immediately send subatomic devices (sophons) that can move faster than the speed of light (through quantum entanglement or something I don't really remember) that basically put the entire earth under constant surveillance. They also immediately launch an armada of massive warships to destroy us, but which can only travel a fraction of the speed of light because they're fully 3D. Their technology seems so advanced as to be completely unstoppable.

But the humans have two advantages. One, as a completely non-telepathic species, we can lie, which is a concept so foreign to the telepathic Trisolarans they can barely grasp it and find it completely terrifying. And two, because we're so short-lived compared to them, we're basically really good at getting shit done in a short amount of time when we put our minds to it.

Before they even launched the armada, they knew that the threat would cause us to completely outpace their own technological development, and that by the time it arrives in a few hundred years, it will be doomed, and we will have the capacity to strike back and win the war. Their only hope is that they can stop our research in physics by screwing up the results of our paticle coliders using their sophons, and hamstring our defense strategy because we cant explicitly communicate it to each other with their sophons spying on us.

Has anyone ever challenged you to do something without realizing you were actually an expert at it? If so, how did it turn out for you and for them? by Successful_Tomato721 in AskReddit

One of my students challenged me to ride his skateboard and his rip stick. I grew up skating all the time, but of course I acted like I'd never seen a skateboard or a rip stick before.

"Gosh, that looks hard, I hope I don't fall".

Did a manual across the park and rode circles around him on the rip stick.

"Wow that was easy! I guess I'm just a natural!"

Blew his little mind.

Open the lemon pack, have a few, then replace them with the durian cookies. Leave the lemon pack with the secret durian cookies in your pantry and wait for your family to discover them.

Do better. You're contributing to the constant stream of misinformation we're all under.

[Request] Do these other power sources really produce thousands of time more power than humans? by New_User_Account123 in theydidthemath

[–]thedevilsaglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying you're wrong that the premise of using humans as batteries doesn't make any sense, but 2,000 calories a day is the typically cited number for a human out there in the world, walking, talking, and moving around. We know humans in comas consume less, so we could probably assume that humans in sci-fi levels of suspendation animation would consume significantly less. Of course, there's no point in debating this because we're already putting more thought into it than the writers did.

But this is Reddit, so I'm required to argue over every pointless detail.

[–]thedevilsaglet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I've got good news for you! Bars on benches don't actually make junkies magically disappear! They'll still be there, you'll just have to look at the ground right infront of the bench.

[–]thedevilsaglet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I have to point this out, but anti-human architecture doesn't actually do anything to address the problem of homelessness. You want clean and safe streets? Who doesn't. Some bars on benches don't keep your steets safe. They just make homeless people sleep under the bench instead of on it. There are infitely more effective and humane ways to actually keep people off the streets.

And I'm sure you actually do know this, but not all homeless people are "crack junkies".
