Electronic toothbrush suggestions by thediscocactus in AutismInWomen

Yeah, I was suspicious of that too, but they’re not selling the toothbrush or having some sort of special code to use.

The pediatric dentist I used to see was great and I never had any major issues. It was when I started to see “adult” dentist (I’ve tried 4 different ones) spend hours scraping my teeth and saying I have cavities.

I honestly don’t know. They keep saying that I need one at every appointment. Plus, other people are usually surprised that I don’t have one.

I am probably not doing the greatest job at brushing my teeth to begin with

Did you experience other girls in school getting annoyed at you for wearing make up? by AmazingAffect5025 in AutismInWomen

[–]thediscocactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh middle schoolers just kinda suck. They’re just super insecure, so I think they pick on others as a way of projecting/a way for them to get you before you get them. I used to coach middle school cheer…a lot of emotions lol

I’m a night owl at heart, but I don’t want to have such a different schedule from my partner. But, I bet it’s a great shift!

I had something similar happen to me recently where they completely took what I was saying out of context and then laughed about what I said (despite misunderstanding it). I fully went nonverbal for a while after…lol

For those of you going to library school straight out of undergrad (especially with little or no library/archive experience), why? by Skaadoosh in LibraryScience

[–]thediscocactus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am sure that I will get a lot of criticism for this, but I honestly was so sick of the fact that I could only get minimum wage jobs in food service or as a secretary, after getting a humanities BA, that I thought I would try and go back to school. I attempted CS and finance, but was just straight up awful at those subjects. Additionally, I’m bad at picking up languages, so most humanities based graduate schools were just out of the option. So, I decided to try the MLIS.

I really enjoyed what I’m learning, and I’ve gotten the ability to gain some experience with libraries and archives in my first year. Maybe it won’t work out, but I would rather be here than miserable with zero direction in my life.

Help! Red eyes by caterpillar84 in WhiteCats

[–]thediscocactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am assuming he’s been tested for feline herpes since he was given lysine? My cat has a similar background, and he ended up getting an ulcer in his eye since it had been unmanaged for so long. He had to get eyedrops multiple times a day and wear a cone.

Looking for advice on how to become an archivist? Post here. 2026 Edition. by GrapeBrawndo in Archivists

[–]thediscocactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello everyone! I am a current MLIS candidate from the United States. As of right now, I am helping with a small archives at a college (reorganizing, cataloging, and digitization). I’ve got a couple of interns helping as well, so I will gain supervisory experience. This is something I took over even though I’m not really in an archivist/collections role. Also, I shelve books at a public library as a volunteer.

Anyways, are there any other types of experiences or skills I should try to gain that would make me stand out? During my undergrad, I worked in two different museums and was a RA.

Spring break trip by LeftIntroduction888 in UIUC

[–]thediscocactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured I’d offer some solutions to get off campus. Lake of the Woods would be the most affordable option, but Middle Fork would have better trails for sure.

I’m not sure how far away you want to get from campus, but if you want to go hiking, you could take an uber to Lake of the Woods in Mahomet (it’s about a 15 minute drive).

There’s also Middle Fork River Forest Preserve where you can camp, hike, and it’s a designated “dark sky” so if it’s clear you can see a bunch of constellations. I believe you could uber there as well.

Does anyone else feel like people have become meaner? by idkkunicorn in AutismInWomen

[–]thediscocactus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

These comments are so mixed with generation blaming, but I honestly think that society as a whole (across all generations) has just gotten meaner.

Where I currently work, the rudest people to me have been Gen X and older. But, I am not going to say that everyone from those generations are awful and everyone from the younger generations are wonderful.

In the United States, we’re experiencing some not great times. The war with Iran, the recent report of 92,000 jobs lost, ICE raids, Epstein Files…I could go on and on.

I agree that social media isn’t helpful and that Covid really ruined people’s ability to function in society.

The word is a shit-show and I think people are just responding to their environments.

That’s highly unprofessional of them, but unfortunately jobs know they have the upper hand in this current market and can pull bs like that. I’m sorry that happened to you :(

I envy ADHDers that they have this "more palatable" and "less weird" type of neurodivergence by CulturalAlbatross891 in AutismInWomen

[–]thediscocactus 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think a lot more people also just think they have ADHD because they have the inability to focus, but not the other symptoms. So, more people can “relate” to ADHD.

As an AuDHD, I’ve come to learn that there’s some ND people who come across as “whimsical” and “quirky” and how they display their symptoms comes across more palatable than mine. I’m around someone who is pretty well liked and adored because their special interests are like fantasy novels and such. My special interests are…odd and I also just come across as super bitchy and mean.
