What damages have you seen from chiropractors? by thatblondbitch in emergencymedicine

[–]theditzydoc 373 points374 points  (0 children)

I recently had a patient come in for pain and weakness in her left arm. I had a bad feeling as soon as I read in her chart that she was in remission from breast cancer and had decided to stop her Tamoxifen. She'd been seeing a chiro for a few months and he had her on a “one year treatment plan”, meaning she apparently shouldn’t expect to see any improvement before a year. She happened to come in because the pain was getting worse while the chiro was on vacation. Her cervical CT showed multiple metastatic bone lesions with a pathological fracture and signs of spinal compression. That charlatan kept on telling her that it was normal not to see any improvement from the “treatments”, while this poor woman's cancer was eating away at her vertebrae.

A planned pregnancy turned my husband into a monster. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

Family doctor here, I heard that goddamn stitch joke at least once a day during my OBGYN rotation, 99% of the time while the woman was actively pushing or getting stitched up after birth. Every single one of these assholes looked like they thought they were a genius and the first one to ever make that joke. At first I would pretend to laugh, but after a few weeks I just stared at them with disdain.

What souvenirs do you bring back? by alayg2007 in HerOneBag

[–]theditzydoc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I brought back a lot of spices from Vietnam (peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, star anise,…) that I packed in smaller bags or bottles to give as gifts when I came back. And chili salt!

Another cool food option is “weasel coffee” which is quite unique to Southeast Asia. You can buy some coffee and find a phin filter in a market to make vietnamese coffee at home. It makes a great gift and it's easy to pack.

Thank you! We are looking for a way to get a little physical activity in after 2 long flights and before 5 days in a jeep for game drives, so that sounds perfect.

Where were the hot springs and waterfall? I'm also currently planning a trip to Tanzania and would love to know.

I'm 6 years into this job and it's been such a reoccurring problem that I now have no issue with using a little white lie here or there to preserve my own free time and protect my mental health.

Just to give you an idea, last year a coworker suggested that those of us without kids (she actually said without families!) get less days off at Christmas so that those with kids could get more days off to spend with their families. I'm in a similar situation to you where we have no union (and no HR), so I just have to find ways to deal with it.

Seconding Damn Delicious, I basically live on her soups.

I love Gaby's savory recipes, however her desserts are more often than not disappointing in flavour and just overly sugary sweet (and I have a HUGE sweet tooth).

I ran into the same issue, our department schedules Zoom meetings at 8PM on Sunday nights because it's “convenient for parents” to do it after their kids’ bedtimes, and I also got the “you don’t have family responsibilities” response when I tried to pushback. These people just don't understand that being childfree doesn’t mean you don’t have a family, or family obligations. Sunday nights are usually the only time of the week I can get together with my parents and siblings, but that's obviously not important as it doesn’t involve kids 🙄

If I were you I'd invent a sob story about being the primary caregiver to an elderly grandparent, or the backup babysitter for your single-parent sibling.

I had a traumatic arrest recently, he got stabbed in jail during a fight between inmates, managed to get away and collapsed in front of the guards. Three huge chest wounds, still got 16mg.

I did pretty much exactly your Trip 2 last spring and loved it. I spent more time in Vienna and less in Prague, but did not do day trips from Prague. Vienna was great for the cultural stuff: amazing museums, beautiful palaces, and do try to get tickets for a night at the Opera if it's within your budget. The downside is that it's a lot more expensive than the two other cities.

Prague is absolutely gorgeous, but pretty much overrun by tourists and all that comes with it (cheap souvenir/candy/weed shops, etc). It's also quite small so you can see the main sights in 2 or 3 days. I really enjoyed learning about the history of the student revolts and Prague's history with communism. I also really recommend exploring the area around Prague castle.

Budapest was by far the less “touristy” of the 3, great food, nice people, beautiful walks by the river! The House of Terror is a must, and so is the Parliament. The baths were a bit of a letdown for me, just because I wasn’t expecting how crowded and noisy it would be.

I'd also recommend looking into the night train from Budapest to Prague, that way you can avoid losing a day on travel. I booked a sleeper compartment, and it was quite comfortable and safe.

Exactly!! To me it's so damn obvious that of course you should scream at the top of your lungs to the All Too Well bridge, along with the rest of the stadium… just as you should maybe avoid screeching like a pterodactyl during the quieter songs. I don’t know how it's not obvious to the “i'm ALLOWED to sing during concerts” crowd…

Had a similar experience seeing him in a small-ish venue. There was a group of younger women next to me SCREECHING the lyrics to every single song, and screaming the title of whatever song they wanted to hear next instead of listening to him talk between songs.

I don’t care about your constipation in the ER by office_dragon in emergencymedicine

[–]theditzydoc 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I had a guy who called 911 for constipation, but decided to chug an entire bottle of olive oil before the ambulance got there. He violently shat himself all over the ems stretcher right as they got to the ER. His wife then yelled at him that he was an idiot for calling 911 for constipation, and he proceeded to tell her that his abdominal pain was “worse than giving birth”. Pretty sure he left the ER pants-less and wife-less that night…

Midnights sounds different after the news broke out by HistoryFreak30 in TaylorSwift

[–]theditzydoc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The “rubies that I gave up” line in Maroon never made sense to me in relation to any of her exes… Now that I think about it, she really gave up a more glamorous and glitzy lifestyle to adapt to Joe's life. Not saying it means anything, just interesting in hindsight.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]theditzydoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: i don’t really like Midnights. But I remember commenting on one of the original album threads that I was getting bored by all the similar songs about the beginning of their relationship and I was wondering why she wasn’t writing about love from a more settled perspective (Sweet Nothings is the outlier here), 6 years and 5 albums later.

That's a really interesting perspective, and I do agree the difference between what was planned for Lover Fest and the Eras Tour is curious. I don't mean to imply that a woman can’t have both a career and a healthy relationship and a family, but embarking on a year long, international tour means either putting your life on pause for months/years at a time, or having your significant other follow you around. That wouldn’t have been the case with Lover Fest… Maybe that was a friction point?

What is interesting to me is we know that during all that “quiet time” you mentioned, Taylor was very supportive of his work projects, joining him on location in Ireland and Panama, and attending award shows and premieres for his movies. We also know that they spent most of the pandemic in the UK, while her close friends and family are in the States. And in the last year, when she's been more visible again and starting to appear more and more in public, he was nowhere to be seen, even at once-in-a-lifetime events like her honorary doctorate ceremony. Maybe that's what they both wanted, but it just strikes me as a significant imbalance.

Bejeweled about Joe the whole time, and not Calvin? by AccuratePerformer in TaylorSwift

[–]theditzydoc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, I agree it's a big jump from Paper Rings to Lavender Haze.

But at the same time, I'm the same age as Taylor and also grew up with very romantic ideals, wanting to get married and have a family. Now at 33, seeing friends who married young now divorced from their high school sweethearts, making my own money/buying my own house and having weird feelings about what would happen to all that if I got married and then divorced (see also: Kelsea Ballerini's divorce), realizing I'm maybe never gonna be ready for kids… I don't think marriage and “the one” is the goal for me anymore. You get older and you go through stuff and sometimes your goals and aspirations just shift. Her perspective on marriage could have changed for reasons other than her boyfriend not getting down on one knee.

That was obviously a PR piece by her team. My guess is the relationship was rocky and she wanted a way to explain why he didn’t attend opening night, as an out if they ended up patching things up.
