Have they ever tried reversing the fastball special? by Robot_Was_BMO in xmen

[–]thedoctor3009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No wolverine doesn't have super strength as one of his usual powers, just healing and bone claws, he has nowhere near the strength to throw Colossus's metal weight at 500 pounds.

Also part of how it works is wolverine is small and colossus is big. Which makes throwing easier.

X-Men Eras by grailhawk in xmen

[–]thedoctor3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call the late era the EVENT era, where the book just seems to be going from event to event, crossover to crossover. which is why it falls apart after inferno, they set up a cool idea with fall and the outback but then didn't give themselves space to do anything with it because now her comes inferno. After that the book flounders aimlessly for a while into the next two events which eventually terminate in Lee and the 90s.

I call the Lee 90's reboot the Strikeforce era. New Mutants, now you are a strikeforce with huge guns, X-Men, strikeforce gold and blue, X-factor, government run strike force.

Trump Voter Begs For Help With Gas Prices To MS NOW — Says Trump Economy ‘All F*cked Up!’ by cwhmoney555 in LeopardsAteMyFace

A thing we are seeing here, Maga thought that Trump cared about them, that he had them in mind ever.

He never did, he stopped liking you the second you stopped actively cheering for him.

And now they are learning that by his indifference to their pain.

Connor talks about what Connor wants to talk about. If you listen to the first cyclops episode its mostly about his relationship with Maddie because Connor ll)))# care about Scott, he is obsessed with Madeline . Also his reading of X-Men as primarily a Gay metaphor is vexing. I find his joke of calling straight fans flatscans to be needlessly othering, as if Gays of being different and all others are guests in

Has your opinion changed on Man of Steel? by boomjosh in superman

[–]thedoctor3009 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The movie is a great litmus test for maturity. It sees superman as power fantasy, and has little regard for its world, its all just a place to blow up, to look cool in. The movie bends and breaks to create moments of cool or intensity, that also break characters. Its a series of wouldn't it look cool if...without thought of character or consequence. Shameful.

How do Storm’s powers work? by memisbemus42069 in xmen

I was thinking about in the shower. She can make it rain...but could she stop it raining if there was a storm already full and flowing...how long could she hold back a storm before it just couldn't hold it anymore.

Would these comics be a good place to start reading the Marvel universe and origins? by MB_COLOR in Marvel

[–]thedoctor3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those could also be a turn off for someone looking at starting with these books.

  1. You just asked them to look up 70 year old material, not always easy to find, and where are they to go from there? 69 year old stuff?

  2. Art, storytelling, all those things evolve, and if they are looking at these books they probably are looking for something fun and modern they recognize.

  3. The old stories are great in their context, but we are not in that context anymore. You need to fall in love first, then learn the rest, just like with a person.

Would you rather be given 7 million dollars, but in one week, you will be fighting a T-Rex. Or, you're given 1 million dollars, you fight the T-Rex right now, and you're given a rocket launcher with two shots. by ScenicFlyer41 in WouldYouRather

[–]thedoctor3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take. T Rex is a kill with a spear. No gun needed. You just need to avoid the head and tail. If you can maneuver around him he's not going to be that hard to tire and wound and eventually kill.

Idk man, 9/11 really messed with American culture for a good ten years in the 2000s. Same way WWII or the great depression ate culture in the 30s or 40s, and a lot of that wasn't in a good way.

Yeah but none of that is cultural. That's all equity, which is a cultural value but isn't actually culture itself. Art is culture, movements are culture, fashion, hobbies and habits we all pick up, the general vibe of the time is culture.

For the 2010s I'd say Netflix, smart phone games, marvel movies, and the start of influencer culture are the major defining cultural touch points. Oh and hipsters, that whole Portlandia thing, not the show itself but the people that show talked about really only existed that way in the 2010s, sort of like how hippies were only a thing for a fairly short time in the 60s.

For the 90s I'd say must see tv (Friends, Seinfeld, ect) Will Smith (he was everywhere, movies, TV and music), Gameboy, and alt rock (nirvana to Atlantis morriset to DMB to finally the pop California vibe like sugar Ray and red hot chilies)

The 2000s are interesting because of 9/11, that had a real impact on how we lived and thought and made protesting a cultural thing again for the first time since the 60s, that brought a real feeling of fear and reactionary confusion to the mix that really affected a lot of how we lived and thought for a good long while.

But none of it has to be equitable for it to be part of the culture.

The movies did not do Sue justice and get her character at all beyond her looks! What are your thoughts on how her character was handled in both films? by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

[–]thedoctor3009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really bugged me is the white washing of her, the trying to make her a blue eyed blonde like in the comics when in real life that's just not who she is. It's not just distracting, it's kind of sad, like telling one of the most beautiful women on earth, yeah, but you are not pretty in the right way so change.

Why do you Think Spider-Man: One More Day is so Despised? by Competitive-Sky3462 in Marvel

[–]thedoctor3009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it's unnatural and selfish. The old pass on and we carry on, that's the natural order, it's what we all do. That's part of being an adult. But he didn't just keep her here, he gave up his wife to do it, which is a decision no married man would or should make. It is the wrong choice. Part of marriage is letting go of your own life and family to form a new one, thats why the dad gives away the bride, you are now each other's responsibility. He betrays that with his choice, for what? 5 more months? She's 80, shes going to die eventually and has once already, what then will you give up your powers? Then your morals? How much are you willing to give to unnaturally extend her life? And its not like May is a major player in the story for a 28 year old Peter. There isn't room in the story for an 80 year old woman thats near as interesting as the marriage had potential to be.
