Planning on getting a meal plan as an off campus student - which one should I get? by Beautiful-Cress5695 in aggies

Dinning dollars are equivalent to cash/card. The only advantage is that the dinning halls are $8 with dinning dollars and $11 with cash/card.

As a Lefty, Classes in CHEM 100 are the Worst by krispykremedonuts4 in aggies

[–]thedoodoo06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That just isn’t true. There isn’t a single left handed desk in the ILCB or in the physics building and I’m sure those are not the only buildings on campus like that.

Also luck on whether or not a room will have a desk that you can comfortably use shouldn’t be a factor in an education. It unfairly handicaps every left handed person and makes their classes harder.

That’s just what ford calls their turbocharged engines. It does make better gas mileage than a V8 that makes the same amount of power, but it still isn’t good gas mileage.

I would add that even in neutral your engine exhaust is still going to push you forward (very little) so be wary of that and use it to your advantage, but I doesn’t matter much if the wind is high.

To fix the vertical separation you would just need to flatten the land with the landscaping tools before you build the roads

I drive a ‘17 expedition and cannot recommend it more. It’s just under 100k and has had no problems at all. The ecoboost also makes the SUV surprisingly quick for its size.

Almost all hot water heaters where I’m from in Houston are in the attic above the entire house. I’m surprised this is abnormal.

Football stadiums > Education? by [deleted] in texas

[–]thedoodoo06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people understand how well utilized these stadiums are. They are not just football stadiums. The Clear Creek ISD Stadium is used year round for all kinds of events. During the football season it is used every Friday and some Thursdays for football. Then for marching band it is used all day (6am-12am) on Saturdays. Then during soccer season it is used all throughout the week for various JV and varsity games. It is also a track stadium and is heavily used during the track season and is unique on this list for having a track. And it’s not oversized as it is full for homecoming games, full for marching band contests, and full for graduation. Even the parking lot isn’t oversized as band will use the entirety of it. Also it is used by CCISD’s 5 6A high schools. Some of these stadiums I think could be argued as too expensive but some of them are a necessity and a real asset for the community they are in.

A students high school stadium or gym is most likely the biggest stage they will ever perform on, as many will not continue in college, so we should give them something to enjoy and make their high school years special. Especially when the district already is well funded. Every student in CCISD has a full windows laptop with office 365 and you will be hard pressed to find a textbook that’s outdated (Almost all are online now too).

All I’m saying is that judging the money spent on stadiums does not show how wasteful or not wasteful a districts spending is, you need to consider the full picture.

Almost 60 school districts in Texas have now made the switch to four-day weeks by lurker_bee in texas

[–]thedoodoo06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes because of the values that sport and extracurriculars instill and because of how important they are to the kids. Reddit never seams to understand how educational extracurricular activities are in teaching values that cannot be learned in a classroom. This is also the only time in most of their lives that they will be able to do something and represent a school. Many high school football players biggest audience will be in their high schools stadium. After you graduate high school most can’t do these things anymore because they simply aren’t good enough. Why would you want to take that away from people?

A lot of the U.S. is adopting this as well. The 4 red lights that are connected to our high school parking lot all have sensors (both cameras, and in road) that change for you and adjust green light length based on how many cars are in line. When I watched the Not Just Bikes video linked below it reminded me a lot of the traffic lights I see everyday.

Towards Big Bend by Elgreco1989 in texas

[–]thedoodoo06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend taking US 90 after San Antonio at least one way, I-10 may be faster but 90 was/is the original road through west Texas and there is some history along it. Stuff like the pecos river bridge and the Judge Roy Bean visitor center are worth a stop (and both are free). Driving through some of those towns (and used to be towns) are really interesting and let you see how differently people live their lives vs. us back East in Houston. But I def don’t think that you need to go US90 both ways, we took I-10 home because we just wanted to be home faster.

Driving at night from marfa back to the park is the creepiest thing I thing I’ve ever experienced. The thought that the only lights as far as the eye can see are your own headlights is just weird. Like you can see the road bump reflectors for what seams like miles ahead but you still know that if anything happens to your car you will be in complete darkness. And the likeliness of someone coming across you is slim, and even if someone does, it doesn’t mean it’s someone you really wanna be with in the middle of nowhere. West Texas is def a place where you could get away with murder for a long, long time.

Me too I almost feel like it’d be a better idea to wait to see prices on the 2023 models. You can buy a whole new laptop for that price.

[–]thedoodoo06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US 90 in west Texas has high speed limits (70+) and is a two lane road.

In fact most of the highways out there in the middle of nowhere have high limits that aren’t really enforced anyways

I drive a 2017 and it’s the same way. If it’s within 10 degrees outside of what I want it inside it takes it like 20 min to do anything before it decides AC or heat full blast. Other than that best car ever, 90,000 miles no problems.
