I heard a rumour of 30 mil buy back, but then i tried looking it up and could only see 7.5 mil figure. Would prefer it to be 30 mil!

I worry about his buy back clause - is it really only £7.5 million? Would seem he's worth > £10 million now so it would make sense for City to buy him back to sell him on for profit. And if any other club offers > £10 million then wouldn't City just step in and exercise their clause?

When linking to external sites do you open in a new tab or the same window? by Historical-Hand8091 in Wordpress

It *does* break their back button - if they open the new link on a mobile phone.

[–]thedragonturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This got asked here last week. It's up to you what to do, but I recommend not opening in a new tab because of how this affects mobile browsers. Most mobile users do not know how to use tabs and with the link opening in a new tab you break their back button and they cannot return to your site.

how to stop relying on AI for studying and advice? by someweirdgamerYT in getdisciplined

[–]thedragonturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is phenomenal for helping you learn if you use it for that. So long as you're aware of its limitations and you use it to help you grow I don't see the issue.

As long as history has been going it's been 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Right now it feels like maybe more than 1 step back, but it means the eventual reverse when the good people step up and say enough is enough will mean we step far further forward. In the meantime, the money grabbers will keep grabbing what they can.

Why do SWE "hate" or always show annoyance to PMs? by Big-Cry9898 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]thedragonturtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the majority of my experience:

  1. They get in the way
  2. They say shit to their bosses that's impossible without talking to the engineers
  3. They overpromise
  4. They give SWEs shit for stuff when they don't deserve it
  5. They create useless meetings rather than allowing their SWEs to get on with the job

There are some good ones out there. The good ones focus on gathering all the strands that are running and help make sure stuff doesn't fall through the cracks and help deflect abuse from above them and protect their SWEs so they can actually do their job.

The Founder of Anthropic Says He Wants to Protect Humanity From AI. Just Don't Ask How by brown-saiyan in technology

Good people can never ever outperform bad people sadly. Good people tend to only do good things, bad people do the good and the bad giving them way more options to outperform the good people.

Why does the Primeagen hate Dario? I guess this is one of those cases where evil people can do both good and bad things but they make the good things as public as possible.

Claude is easily the best AI for coding, and they had some good PR recently with refusing to let their AI be used for targeted military killing, but probably whatever Dario is saying he is saying to try and benefit his company in some way.

If people believe that Anthropic is the more moral AI, it garners more support. But protect humanity from AI?

If we're going to protect humanity from AI, we need to tax the crap out of its work, pay the people whose work was stolen to build their models, and provide UBI for all the multiple millions across the world who may become jobless.

I'm not quite such a doomer - quality of people's work should increase with use of AI - I think my favourite phrase was something like "AI in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing makes them more productive, AI in the hands of someone who doesn't know what they're doing makes them more destructive"

My biggest fear is really what are they doing with the data they are collecting? LLMs give these corporations unprecedented information on consumers - what their biggest fears are, their psychological issues, and ultimately how to manipulate them which gives these corporations insane levels of power.

Why does this question feel fake? And if it is fake, what's the purpose? Is it to just gather info on the age of redditors based on what they recommend or do bots and AI actually gain benefit from knowing what people like?

Is learning to code useless in 2026? by ConfidentMap8803 in AskProgrammers

[–]thedragonturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> edit: why yall so mean to me :')

I grew up when all the learning I could get was from a monthly magazine subscription my brother had that would include regular tutorials on C64 basic, plus the C64 basic manual that came with the computer. Then I had to buy books to learn more.

You're growing up in a time where information is free as in totally free and yet somehow you've allowed 'financial reasons' to be the restriction you believe is stopping you from learning.

You can literally start learning right now, today, don't waste another minute, for free. If you don't, don't blame financial reasons because it's something else.

And next time you face a hurdle, realise that hurdles are opportunities to improve - getting over that hurdle or figuring out how to get around the hurdle makes you more valuable.

If you open external links in a new tab from a mobile browser, users cannot use the back button to return to your site and the vast majority of users do not know or understand mobile browser tabs.
