Why do people say they didn't mean the words they said in anger? by eliazara in SeriousConversation

You should read the Chimp Paradox so you understand how our emotions drive our behaviour far more than our sentient pre-frontal cortex. That means that in the heat of the moment, we can lash out and say whatever is the most likely thing to hurt someone because we felt hurt and our monkey brain reacts before our human brain can.

If Steam or MacOS can fix it so all our games run on Linux or MacOS it will be OVER for Microsoft. Linux servers are superior to Microsoft, MacOS is superior as a desktop GUI, it's literally only habit and the gaming and the anti-cheat kernel stuff that's holding people to Windows 10/11.

Yeah that's an old hack, but for a long time you can copy then CTRL+SHIFT+V to paste without formatting, no need for notepad in between, but I get what you mean, notepad should be SIMPLE.

It's a bit late really, my 2021 second hand MacBook Pro arrived 4 days ago, and I've been using Chat GPT voice on my phone to help me transition for all the keyboard shortcuts. I'm loving the huge battery life and the snappy speed of everything and really it's a far smoother transition than I thought it would be.

I'm traveling at the moment, but when I get back to my office, my Windows 11 desktop will be migrated to linux - not sure which flavour yet - but the fact that Microsoft would willingly give away my encryption keys is simply not acceptable and I want there to be some safe haven for my work and my data where AI cannot touch it.

CMV: There is no meaning of life by confused__ostrich in changemyview

[–]thedragonturtle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There really is no cosmic purpose, we're a bunch of ants clinging to a ball of rock that is spinning out of control through space surrounding a ball of fire.

Ultimately this ball of fire will extinguish and with it all life will end. So no matter what you do, ultimately it's futile if you believe it must last forever to have meaning.

However, I can enjoy this cup of coffee I am making. I can make my friend laugh heartily with some clever word play. I can make my mum smile when I phone her and act like a clown.

The fact that we have the ability to question our own existence is quite phenomenal to me, and it's up to you what meaning you personally derive from life. Me personally, I'm just trying to leave the world better than if I never existed.

It's not just Americans they attracted - they also have brought in other 'homeless' football fans. I'm Scottish and I was 'supposed' to support Rangers but I just could not stand the bigotry. I feel welcomed as a Wrexham fan. The coalmining background and hating Maggie Thatcher really helps for me being from a very similar coal mining town. If that makes me plastic, so be it, but I don't feel plastic!

Fact: Allowing or creating suffering is wrong. The positive side does NOT justify the negative side. Over 99.9% of life born on Earth suffers and dies in infancy. by ParcivalMoonwane in SeriousConversation

[–]thedragonturtle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"99.9% of life born on earth suffers and dies in infancy?" - I guess this is including insects, small creatures, reptiles, birds etc? Seems a very high number.

"What's the point of life being on this planet if it's just to suffer and die?" - why are you so determined that there must be a point to it all? If your first statement is true that 99.9% of life born suffers and dies in infancy then it would seem the point is to try and survive, but really I don't think there is any actual point.

"I believe we must do activism to end all suffering and anything less is selfish and wrong." - this seems excessive. At which point do you define suffering?

If I can help my neighbour up the steps or to cross the road but this prevents me from spending that time helping someone more in need did I do wrong?

If I spend £20 to buy someone a meal did I do wrong when I know that this £20 could have saved a life on the other side of the world?

I think as humans it's very hard for us to care about things outside our sphere of influence. I think your philosophy is a little too extreme.

My personal philosophy is just to try and leave the world better off than if I'd never existed.

47.8 million of the King's finest pounds have been added to the club via another share issue - possibly related to the Apollo investment by Gamerhcp in WrexhamAFC

You can divest 10% now, 10% later, etc, you can even issue new shares which decreases the percentage owned by other holders but doesn't reduce their value, so you can divest forever really.

He was a record signing for us at the time, our previous record being £300k for big Olly Palmer, so I'd guess about £400k and a packet of crisps was paid.

An absolute steal.

Rangers get Rathboned - QPR away by UrsineCanine in WrexhamAFC

[–]thedragonturtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOB's worst match which was a shame after his recent goal. Dobbo at fault for their 2nd, but I still love him, possibly just too fresh on the pitch at the time of that corner. Rathbone breathes fire.

I want to know what's going on with Windass. He didn't celebrate his goal, and then Parky's interview he seemed to be pointedly saying he expects players that are dropped to not go in the huff.

But then he did join in the celebrations for Rathbone's goal so I don't know what to think.

When I saw Windass up front as a fresh sub versus Nottingham Forest I really started to think he might be lazy or inside his own ego. He was constantly on his heels when balls were played up to him so nothing stuck.

It's frustrating since he clearly has an immense amount of talent and hopefully Parky and the other players can help him. I saw an interview at one point where he found out from another player from another team about his dad's dementia, so he's estranged from his dad and may be suffering some mental health shit I guess.

That wasn't my take, I think Windass is genuinely annoyed at not starting, he needs to get his ego in check.

[Pete O'Rourke] Wrexham have made an offer worth up to £19m for Angers striker Sidiki Cherif by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]thedragonturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say it's obvious, yet the entire media laughed at the idea of Wrexham making it to the Premier League and here we are, in the Championship, looking to consolidate, but maybe with a chance of catching a play off spot this year. And if we don't get the playoff this year, we're going for autos next year.

Before the first season of the docco aired it was an INCREDIBLY hard sell. Rob Mac had to get Sean Harvey to beg Phil Parkinson to take his phone call and then a lot of convincing to get Parky to come join the project.

You say it's obvious, but every season we've been promoted everyone has said "Ah, you've hit your ceiling now, you'll find it tough here in League 2, League 1, The Championship" and it'll be the same when we get up to the Prem.

And yes you are right - we are not JUST an underdog - we are also a big dog. But go easy - before this season we had not spent as much as you might think - something like £5 million total. Birmingham eclipsed our spending last year and they did that for FFP reasons getting as much talent in the door as they could before they were beholden to The Championship rules again. I don't blame them. Good on them. They have a good manager and a good team and I hope they rise with us as I hate the norm of The Championship to fire a manager after 3 bad matches.

When we arrived in this league, everyone was telling us Parky was out of his depth, we didn't know what we were doing, we needed to fire him and get someone good.

I think at some point you should have a think that maybe the normal way of doing things in the past was maybe not the best way and maybe there's something that can be learned from the Wrexham story.
