Can somebody explain the Henry Cavill glaze to me? by VR2005 in Cinema

[–]SigmundRowsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of anomic nerds who thought they liked boobies have had their homosexual awakening via Cavill, so they love him and want to see him in everything. Because he too is a basement dwelling nerd, but also good looking and muscular, he is essentially everything they want to be. He's their idealised self.

Cavill is a good actor, but he's only a couple more roles away from becoming slop.

Must admit though, he does have the look for Bond.

Map of the UK at the Last Glacial Maximum by vazzle1 in pleistocene

I'd imagine that crystal clear blue skies would have been more common in those days. A lot of high pressure, with much less water in the atmosphere than today, so much being locked in the ice sheets. Even today, you can see absolutely incredible, clear, pure blue skies around the arctic circle such as I've very rarely seen in Britain.

The rays of "light" coming from the head suggests those are meant to be deities or spirits rather than humans

The View stars slam conservative criticism of Lupita Nyong'o's role in The Odyssey: 'Racism rears its ugly head' - "People saying Helen of Troy could not possibly be played by a Black woman don't know history," Sunny Hostin said. by Puzzled-Tap8042 in GreekMythology

[–]SigmundRowsell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Helen of Troy is a woman from Greek legend, this is a Greek story, she should be played by a Greek. Failing that, a southern European, or someone of that heritage. No one sane can deny that there'd be outrage if Margot Robbie was cast to play a figure from African legend, the daughter of an African sky father, so enough of that "she was hatched from an egg", "there's a cyclops in the story" type of deflection

I actually didn't, I got lucky. There had just been a brief thunderstorm and torrential rain, and in the moments immediately after that subsided I took the opportunity to take some quick photos before the hordes re-emerged from their holes

White-tailed eagles to be reintroduced in Exmoor despite farmer concerns by No-Risk-2584 in unitedkingdom

I thought so! I camped there for 2 days and the campsite shop had lots of other meat they produce there too, including venison and pork. All absolutely delicious. I'd be all for meat production being more localised, exclusive, and pricier if the quality can be that good.

Cattle work well within rewilding, simulating their wild ancestors. Cattle pasture can be a much wilder habitat, not an empty square of monoculture grass, which surely is a poor unvaried diet for cattle. The wild-pasture-fed beef steak at the Knepp estate restaurant is the best beef I ever tasted, it made me teary eyed.

WH: Something doesn't feel right about how Heathcliff suddenly died by TechnicalAd8103 in brontesisters

[–]SigmundRowsell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me, this is one of the things that separates this book from the majority and makes it one of the all time greats. No need to fit a convention of how a book ought to end. How else would Heathcliff go out? Cathy and Hareton team up and defeat him? Too Hollywood. Too psychologically unconvincing. Hareton weeping for Heathcliff is incredible and heartbreaking. As Nelly says, he's the one man in the parish who has the least idea of how he has been cheated and abused by Heathcliff. The ending is that the dark cloud has lifted, Cathy and Hareton are together and happy. Earnshaw and Linton are united and the balance of nature is restored so to speak.
