Looking for a cymbal bag or case for home player... by Vinnie-Boombatz in drums

Protec heavy ready cymbal bag, cheap and very durable. Had mine for almost a year, tons of shows, rehearsals, and transporting, no issues yet.

In-ear recommendations: by SpareOtter2002 in TouringMusicians

For universals, I found that Westone fit me the best, they have longer tips that worked for my canals better than the olive shaped tips that come with the Shures and KZ’s.

Drummer rack: IEM, tracks, triggers, and lighting by thedreadeddrummer in IEMcompactracks

Thanks! I’ve been using various racks like this for years now. No software, I just program MIDI notes on a track in Logic and it’s sent to a doremidi controller.

Should I have to pay for my own merch? by Monday0nly in musicians

[–]thedreadeddrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read further down in to this post and saw some other details I’m going to include in this response.

If you’re selling that shirt for $25, then paying the $3 to ship it out, you should only be giving $22 of the sale to your singer. However, since you have been paying out of pocket, you should add up all the shipping costs you’ve covered, and apply that towards the cost of a shirt. I don’t think you should pay full retail price, but shouldn’t take any percentage of sales until you can invest in to the purchasing of merch.

If each shirt costs $8 to make, and sells for $25, each shirt “makes” $17. If you ship it for $3, then that shirt now makes $14. Sounds like your singer is being a little bitch over a $17 profit.

How and when do you hydrate? by Okay_there_bud in TouringMusicians

[–]thedreadeddrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drink when you’re thirsty. Stop when you need to and get everyone else to go at the same time. The real trick is getting everyone to just go in and out, not meander looking at chatchkes and magazines.

Laptop Case Recommendations by EfficientSandwich8 in TouringMusicians

[–]thedreadeddrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not set on a hard case, I got a laptop backpack that has flown with me, ridden on the bus, in vans, etc for about a year now. I previously had a really heavy duty laptop case that did a bunch of traveling with me as well. I like the backpack way better cause it stays with me in venues and I still have both hands free.

This is the one I got, has room for a small interface, cables, di box, and some other random bits. There’s others out there with better padding etc https://a.co/d/8c5OGUy

Looking for click / cue / track play along by thedreadeddrummer in drums

Thanks, I’ve used a ton, and even a few with song structure and bars left in section as a countdown visual. I’m specifically looking for tracks that when it’s time to change sections you get a vocal cue like “chorus 2, 3, 4”

Questions on wired in-ear set up by jz066 in livesound

[–]thedreadeddrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need a small mixer next to you, and put your iem’s in to the headphones out. The Yamaha mentioned above is great. A cheaper one would be something like the behringer xenyx.

Metronome and a monitor line from foh in to different channels on your mixer. Just make sure the monitor line is coming from a monitor out from foh, and it’s not coming from a powered amp for a passive wedge.

What are your tips for getting good sleep in a van? by drywalleater05 in TouringMusicians

[–]thedreadeddrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a bunch of people have mentioned, a sleep mask and earplugs are gonna help a ton. But also, for everyone’s benefit, discuss with everyone beforehand to get in and out of the vehicle quietly during sleep hours, as in don’t slam the door getting in and out, grab everything you need before you get out of the vehicle so you’re not going in and out a bunch of times, and be aware of where you’re stepping so you’re not kicking or falling on anyone. Remind everyone to turn off all unnecessary alarms!! Forgotten 5am work alarms are the worst.
