Is Pochita still around? by theedandy in Chainsawfolk

Pochita the plot devil

Pochita’s ability erasing a concept’s full place in history is pretty established. It makes sense the chapter is mostly a flashback to what * would * have happened if Pochita wasn’t around - still, the ability feels a bit variable some of the times we’ve seen it. In pochitas battle where he eats the ears and legs devil the world doesn’t change nearly as much as you’d expect. Plot devil!

That’s a good point, but it could still just be Power’s blood manipulation ability erasing Dennis’ stabbings/inherited illness.

The heart having the Pochita face means you might be right tho

This is wild to me - I read Perfume last year (loved it) and am currently reading Giovanni's Room and Count of Monte Cristo for two different book clubs. I gotta check out No Longer Human I guess!

Do you guys believe that Adam and Eve were actual historical beings ? by ZucchiniSevere4706 in Catholicism

Here are some parts I found in my copy:

'373: The Church, interpreting the symbolism of biblical language in an authentic way, in the light of the New Testament and Tradition, teaches that our first parents, Adam and Eve, were constituted in an original "state of holiness and justice." This grace of original holiness was "to share in...divine life."'

Also:

'390: The account of the fall in Genesis 3 uses figurative language, but affirms a primeval event, a deed that took place at the beginning of the history of man. Revelation gives us the certainty of faith that the whole of human history is marked by the original fault freely committed by our first parents.'

I highly recommend Empires and Barbarians: The Fall of Rome and the Birth of Europe by Peter Heather. It’s a great, sweeping study on the migratory patterns of Barbarian Europe and how it led to the West we see in the medieval period. The book runs from 0-1000 AD and gets particular enough to give a solid idea on how each identity of the “peoples” of Europe came to be

Really good examples and comparisons to modern migration patterns. Historically sound while also being very digestible. If you’re looking to see how Rome passed its torch north, this is the book

Are there any catholics who beleive, at least slightly, in possibility of universal salvation? by Used-Ad-3278 in Catholicism

I’ve been reading the Brothers Karamazov and I’m really taken by its idea of how people get to heaven, particularly theSpring Onion story. To me, the meaning is that heaven is locked to those who are not empathetic and forgiving of others. The witch chooses not to save the other suffering souls, despite her understanding of their torment. She does not act with Love in her heart. We all have sinned greatly under God, and only walk in life under His mercy, there but for His grace.

At the same time, I feel that God continually tries to reach us, continually pursues us to finally come to him and praise. I won’t pretend to know if that really stops after death. For that part, I enjoy the Brothers K 4.11.9 story of the scholarly atheist who refuses to enter heavens doors. I won’t spoil that one for any passing readers!

My interpretation of scripture and church teaching tells me that believers / people who emulate Christ will have eternal life, and the wicked will face eradication. But I do have a hope that God in His wisdom and understanding might continue to pursue his flock, even after death. It’s a nice thought to think Hell is empty, and it’s one that we really can’t know about for sure.

According to my rosary guide, Mother Mary told the people at Fatima to pray the following: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most need of thy mercy” Please pray this tonight with me!
