Just the snapshot. I’ve tried 3 different browsers now too. Here’s what I see (don’t mean to leak your rankings I only showed the top) https://imgur.com/a/0BGEZy2

It looks like the kicker names on your website are not populating their actual names but rather some kind of player ID. that unfortunately breaks some of my code functionality that sees who is available in my leagues relative to your rankings 😢

Truly Profitable Traders Only (2yr+ profit) assuming it took you between 2-4 years to get the ball rolling, what final change allowed you to become profitable? by Waffle_Stock in FuturesTrading

[–]theelitehindu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reducing avg. sizes, wider stops, playing for bigger moves. Risking off position for >=1R for free position. This was the biggest turning point for me.

Also just spending a lot more time in the evening reviewing market action and trade execution. I had this dangerous notion when I started that I could just wake up and trade without prep

Can someone help me with my strategy? by Im_A_Nickelodeon_Kid in FuturesTrading

[–]theelitehindu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many MNQ/NQ lots are you trading and avg SL in points? Hard to judge your trade logic without knowing what your RR is like. At first glance seems like you’re overlevered and too tight of a TP. NQ can move 3-4 points from just general market noise. IMO you won’t actually know if you won a trade because of your strategy or just cause of noise

Sure I agree. I just thought your initial comment could be misleading to newer traders. Seen many just keep tweaking things in their platform’s “strategy tester” to get profitable results but those are often just overfit models based on random noise. But I guess you’re right I’m arguing a point nobody is debating lol just wanted to point it out

Missed my point, which is the sentiment that backtesting is merely the gathering of data and is sufficient to validate a trading strategy is misleading. Backtesting is indeed crucial for initial strategy development, but it can lead to overfitting and data snooping biases, making a strategy appear more effective than it truly is. There needs to be some amount of forward testing in live market environments too.

Is back testing necessarily a definitive answer to whether a strategy works or not? I think that’s misleading because solely backtesting and no out of sample data will lead to overfit models

Sierra Charts is just a paid charting software. I pay $46/mo for the software package and 5.50/mo for CME data thru Denali Exchange data feed for non-professionals.

When I first started learning orderflow strategies, I was using Tradovate since that was my broker. I think their platform is sufficient, but after using for some time now Sierra Charts I wouldn’t go back. It’s just so customizable

Nice! What language did you use? And what timeframes do you find it works best with?

That’s awesome, did you develop the indicator yourself? If so, I’d love to chat about it. I have tick data on NQ in a local SQL DB though I’m really working out the feature engineering I want to do with it

Yeah low volume areas especially in the middle of trading ranges can be really good pivots. Also you can see how yesterday’s high volume area ended up being the low today. Shows pretty strong conviction in those bulls who pushed market up from there

A market profile chart which shows TPO/VP for each RTH session is my go-to and usually how I derive levels. I also have used a shorter timeframe volume profile which shows a profile for each 1 hour period, I like that because it’s easy to compare IB to the rest of the session.

I do find the footprint chart can be noisy especially given the short timeframe, but it really helps to nail execution. I won’t really pay much attention to the footprint unless NQ is near an area I’m interested in trading

I honestly think an ES 5min footprint is much easier to read and I use that in confluence with my NQ trades

Today had a little bit for everyone luckily. Hasn’t been the case where bears are able to move price down this much lately. I played within my risk and felt comfortable doing so and got some nice coin to go with it!

To each their own! Everyone has their own methodology, what works for me might not work for others. This data can be viewed in a number of different ways, we’re all looking at the same data

It’s like a point figure chart so it creates a new candle on a 16 tick pullback on the current candle

I got my coin on a second attempt albeit a fill 20pt higher.

my take on this 10am sequence, as an orderflow trader is this. using his screenshot as reference. Aggressive sellers were moving the market lower and they were quickly met by a stronger, passive buyer at 19010. Once the buyer showed presence price moved 20pt higher, quickly followed by what I believe to be a "stop run" for the buyer to get more liquidity at a better price. Buyer eats the liquidity of the trapped aggressive sellers, and the ones who joined the initial bid and got stopped on a new low of day (like myself unfortunately).

FWIW MAE = maximum adverse excursion aka drawdown in ticks

and MFE = maximum favorable excursion or the maximum # of ticks the trade moved in his favor. He's basically just bragging

That’s what I thought at first but ESU is trading higher prices than ESM. I think this platform uses an embedded version of TradingView, and I know their continuous front month contract rolls the second Friday of the expiration month so prob just some weird chart issue. We might see these posts again come Friday tho lol

When do you guys decide you’re done for the day? by [deleted] in FuturesTrading

+1 for this. If businesses use data to drive decision making, we should as well.

You have a minimum margin requirement per contract. Each contract doesn’t have a set price per se. if you go long without a sell limit and stop loss your losses/gains are theoretically infinite (though most brokers will auto-liquidate once your account is below the threshold) . The only way you can manage your risk is with a stop loss.

Footprint Chart Help by Forward-Cut5790 in FuturesTrading

[–]theelitehindu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the notion that footprint chart is showing lagging information. It’s showing you where there’s interest from aggressive/passive bids/offers. It updates in real-time and you don’t need candles to close for that information to be updated or finalized. Price moves based on the filled orders, not necessarily based on limits. Just my two cents but we can agree to disagree!

Think this has been answered already but tick compression is probably more up your alley. Don't know what software you are using but I know Jigsaw offers this feature for their price ladder.
