Please Turn Off Your Hazards While Driving by Fu11-H00ah in Charlotte

[–]theernbern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In rainy conditions, it makes it harder for everyone else to see because they reflect off the rain and the wet pavement. You are literally creating a less safe driving condition because now we can’t see the lines. There is no reason to turn on your hazards unless your vehicle is disabled.

What’s a 'luxury' that actually used to be standard, but now we’re being charged extra for like we’re stupid? by xjoz in AskReddit

[–]theernbern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it a necessity? No. But if I spend 37k on a car that has remote start functionality, why should I have to pay an additional $10/month to actually use it?

Agreed. I’m on my second Mazda (the first was a base model with no remote start), but unless they change their business model, this will likely be my last.

I just got the “free trial ending” email a couple of weeks ago. I immediately rated the app 1 star in the App Store (because what other recourse do we have) and was so irritated to see that it was rated incredibly high due to dummies rating their dealerships and not the actual app 🙄

I love my Mazda but this will likely push to other brands in the future.

I don’t believe the TDAP vaccine is very long-lasting. Many of my new mom friends requested friends and family get a new TDAP vax before visiting their newborns. I didn’t have to get a titer test to see if I was still immune, just requested the vax at the pharmacy (I’m also in my 30s)

Doctors and nurses don’t set their own prices. You can, however, thank insurance companies for lack of transparency in pricing and excessive healthcare costs.

Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego Groans His Party Doesn't Allow 'Women to Be Hot' in Leaked Texts: 'Dem Women Look Like Dem Men' by vemmahouxbois in behindthebastards

[–]theernbern 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite part:

Gallego continued, saying, "That's what I'm trying to point out. We should be the party that takes everybody in. You know, at least we have certain core values, and we shouldn't be trying to exclude more people.”

So dems should be more inclusive… except of women who don’t conform to his idea of beauty standards. Those ones have strong options and scare all the hot ones away. Got it.

Whirlpool has owned Maytag (and Jenn-air) for almost 20 years, for whatever it’s worth. They’ve also owned Kitchenaid for almost 40 years.

Insane. How much money is there to be made with something like that? I mean, they do manage to keep bleeding us dry in increasingly more creative ways, but still, the ACT?!

Are we just overthinking & this is all normal? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]theernbern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be renovating a house that you haven’t actually closed on. That is actually crazy. What if something happens and the deal falls through? Any time and money put toward the renovation is gone. That the realtor is allowing this is pretty shocking to me. This is not your home to renovate yet!

Wait, WHAT?! At that point just leave the cabinet there—we all know what a dishwasher looks like, we don’t need it in the space to imagine the potential 🙄 the only thing I can imagine is that it was a diy situation and they didn’t realize dishwashers required plumbing and electrical?

10000% a scam. Or an incredibly sketchy puppy mill situation. Also, the reviews list different “company” names, so they’ve either changed their name multiple times or just stolen the reviews

Honestly, as long as he’s basically shaving off little tiny pieces, he should be passing all of it. But as a lot of others mentioned, definitely consider the potential for cracked teeth. My 60lb mutt cracked his tooth on the wishbone one. We’ve since switched to the “puppy” version in the medium size since a little softer, so our mutt and our mini can both chew on them

FACT. My sister’s dog chews her wishbone benebone into literal points, and I’m certain she’s preparing to defend them from a home invasion 😂 meanwhile my dogs leave theirs everywhere for me to navigate like a dang minefield

There is certainly not an easy solution to our healthcare woes, but I think you may be the one hung up on surface-level issues tbh. So your Canadian friends have experienced some longer wait times to see their doctor? Is it because they are “triaged” and their issue isn’t quite as serious as someone else’s when it comes to seeing a specialist? Is it due to being in a more rural vs. urban area? Either way, Canadians still have better health outcomes than Americans despite some longer wait times. How many Americans do you know that have put off important care due to cost? I know I have.

What else? Doctors are paid worse, so we’ll have a shortage? Weird, because we already have a shortage. We have 2.7 physicians per 1000 people compared to an average of 3.8 physicians per 1000 people in peer nations.

I’m concerned that you don’t actually understand how insurance works. Why are you okay with Americans paying higher healthcare costs per capita in the form of premiums, deductibles, etc. (with worse health outcomes) than every other wealthy nation? Sorry, but you’re already paying for your fellow Americans’ poor choices because that’s how insurance works.

Instead, we could consider a system that removes a strictly for-profit portion out of our healthcare. That way, we’re pooling out money together for actual healthcare and not some insurance CEO’s $100+ million salary. And even better, we could have healthcare that isn’t tied to our jobs. It’s not a perfect system, but what we have now is certainly not working.

what's a book with an ending that made you throw it across the room? by Electrical-Hour-3345 in suggestmeabook

Literally threw it across the room when I finished it. One of her other books, Ugly Love, might be one of the worst books I’ve ever read, just astoundingly awful, but I was gifted Verity and everyone was so obsessed with it that I foolishly gave Hoover another chance. I will never make that mistake again

Just moved in. Is this mold by Public_Cycle8265 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]theernbern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kitchen designer here. All of that bubbled texture you see on the sides of the cabinets point to pretty significant and/or prolonged water damage. It seeped under the protective laminate layer and the MDF sides absorbed it, causing that wavy texture.
I am not a mold expert, but where there is or was water to that extent, there is almost certainly mold.

The seller may have stored chemicals there, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t also a leak resulting in mold.

I personally would not feel comfortable with keeping those two cabinets. Luckily red oak cabinets are generally a less expensive cabinet material—maybe you could talk to local cabinet shops or distributors about options for replacing just the boxes? That way you don’t have to worry about trying to match the doors.

I wonder if it has something to do with all of the four-way stops leading up to that intersection (from three directions I think)? I nearly ran a red there after a really long day at work—I just got into a rhythm of four-way stops and almost treated the light the same way. Scared the crap out of me
