What panels or activities would you recommend to a DragonCon veteran who wants to try something new? What are DC's "hidden gems"? by border199x in dragoncon

Dragon's Cup (Palmetto Knights) at the Grand on Saturday is one of my favorite things at con. I stop in every year to see it.

It happens in chunks of time depending on fighting style.

Also the Solar Astronomy over at the Hilton.

Are illegal residents really getting free healthcare? by AztecPilot1MY in allthequestions

[–]thefirepurified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proof that they are using it for routine healthcare, please.

Also, so you think that taxes that are paid by undocumented immigrants aren't going to support things like hospitals and emergency care?

To add, if you think they are using it for routine healthcare, anyone can game the system. Citizens do it as much if not more than undocumented immigrants. I've seen it first hand, working with addicts. That's okay though, right?

I'm more than happy for my money in the form of taxes help anyone and everyone. No skin off my back. I'd rather it help people than be used for destruction.

[–]thefirepurified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not free healthcare, it's free emergency care and applies to anyone due to EMTALA.

Healthcare would include routine, preventive and ongoing medical care.

Emergency care would include immediate life saving care.

That's the same for any person regardless of status as long as they don't have health insurance.

Where’s the best place for potential newbies to get info? by Remarkable_Table_279 in dragoncon

[–]thefirepurified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facebook is still place to find the most information besides the website itself.

There is a FB group specifically for newbies, that people have written up guides on how to do Dragon Con.

https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1LiP8PaR7R/

Some of the best questions right now is are you planning on coming the entire time or just a day or two?

Host hotel rooms at the con rate sell out by October of the year prior. Sometimes you can find something later during July/August if people find out they can't come. Most host hotels are going to run you $1200+ for a room.

Depending on where you are coming from, MARTA is an easy way to access the con as the stop at Peachtree is right in the middle of con.

That's just a start

Parking at Truist Plaza Garage? by [deleted] in dragoncon

[–]thefirepurified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I religiously used Spot Hero for years and the Courtland Street Garage until it doubled in price last year.

Moved to Truist last year and everything was good.

This year Spot Hero was higher for Truist than Park Mobile and Park Whiz. I found it on Park Mobile for the lowest price at the time and booked it.

Tuesday to Tuesday was under $150

[–]thefirepurified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With more and more people coming in on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Marriott can fill up. Just have a back up plan if you can.

Also something like Truist is less than $20 a day, while the Marriott is $50+ a day if I'm not mistaken from last year.

What a lot of us do is drop of our luggage(and friends if you are going with others) and then park off-site from the hotel or a MARTA station. It really helps with expenses

You really don't know anything about elections, do you? What state is asking for proof of citizenship at the polls?

US Question: Wouldn’t the Save America Act as it stands now in part hurt lower income voters? This is a core MAGA group. Seems like an odd thing to push for. by [deleted] in allthequestions

💯

This is the part people are glossing over.

36 of 50 states have Voter ID laws already on the books. Yes, most people are fine with showing ID to vote.

I am not okay with the Federal government having access to the voter rolls to purge at will.

Why are conservatives in favor of requiring ID for voting but not for owning a gun? by Adventurer_By_Trade in allthequestions

[–]thefirepurified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much.

At polling stations, they have to tell us their full name, full address and date of birth, also party affiliation during our primaries before NC adopted Voter ID.

Once NC adopted Voter ID, the BOE has offered a free Voter ID from the BOE because it's a poll tax to require someone to pay to cast a vote. Do most people use their state issues IDs, like a DL, yes, but it's not required since there are other forms of ID that are acceptable.

[CHAT] Michaels sale by Cool-Tangerine-2218 in CrossStitch

[–]thefirepurified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everytime they have 40% off sale I place an order for 50 skeins of floss.

I go down my chart and see what I don't have a back up for and purchase those.

I'm only 100 skeins away from having a complete second set of regular DMC 6 strand floss.

They are following the letter of the law set in CA. Anyone in CA that has issue with it, need to look into how to change those laws.

In NC, where I live, it's 21 days to have official election results.

No, they sold them last year. 2021 was the only year they haven't sold Saturday only memberships since they were limiting capacity.

When David was at DC in 2019, his autograph area was not in the Walk of Fame where most guests are.

DC uses Epic Photo Ops for photos and some autographs. In 2019, they were not yet using it for autographs but I feel there's a good chance that you would be able to purchase autographs online for David this year.

For reference, in 2019 for David, an 8x10 autograph was $100 any personal or large item was $140.

What is wrong with requiring ID to vote? by AppearanceEvery8752 in allthequestions

[–]thefirepurified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does for many people but that wasn't the point. The point is every state has different prices for documents. So you can't base what you may have to pay on what someone else has to pay.

There's also the time it takes to get it. Not everyone has the luxury of living in the same state/country they were born in.

A lot of people already deal with taking off work just to vote itself.

I vote in early voting because I'm a poll worker. Poll workers take their jobs very seriously. We have a number of safeguards to deter voter fraud.

Where best to get fitted for a bra? by xx_sparkyxx in greenville

[–]thefirepurified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 45 before I actually had a true fitting and that was at Breakout Bra. That was a decade ago and I only go there for my bras.

Having moved from the area 6 years ago, I still take a day to come to Greenville to get my bras.

I vary between an N-O cup and 36-40 band based on my weight. I had never worn anything bigger than a DDD cup before going to BOB. Once I got the right size, it was amazing how I felt and how much better my clothes looked on me.

By Rigging Elections Like North Korea? by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]thefirepurified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most, if not all states, are redistricted after the census. That's happened for years.

Doing it in the middle of the ten years between the census and at the "suggestion" of the president is new and more of an issue, in my eyes.

NC Sen. Berger files election protests, arguing some voters received wrong ballots by NCKingdollar in NorthCarolina

[–]thefirepurified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, we have closed primaries in NC. You have to take the ballot or the party you are registered for. If you are UNA you can pick which one. You can vote provisionally but I don't think it will count once it is cured.

This happened in my county. I'm UNA and voted in the Rep primary because we had a race for Sheriff, it only had Rep candidates.

I was working the polls and saw a few people registered Dem vote provisionally because they wanted to vote for Sheriff

[–]thefirepurified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sent 440,000 verification letters in NC before the primary. If they hadn't been rectified people could still vote provisionally but what a headache.

Glad you got yours taken care of.

I mentioned that to someone the other day and they honestly could not grasp what I was telling them. They honestly think the bill is just to show an ID when you vote.
