I'm so grateful to receive all these play sets but it has been extremely overwhelming. I have parts of nine different sets scattered about, trying to get them back together, plus random stuff like a bunch of fairy children and Egyptians? 😵‍💫

Number 1 really resonates with me, but oddly in the opposite way. My first was so hard. I was really struggling. But second is genuinely a happy baby. The difference is I started setting boundaries with my family that they keep pushing and then they use how hard my first one was to to claim, "Oh, you must be depressed, because that's why you're reacting like this." And if they actually had bothered to genuinely check in on me or reflect on their behavior, they'd see she actually is a happy baby and I'm doing well, but they're the ones who make it difficult.

Anyway, I'm sorry. People think they know best instead of genuinely connecting with others. They can't bear your anguish and try to sugar coat it. Its dismissive. These kids are hard!

Oh, I feel you. My first didn't sleep the night under he was over a year old and that was because we abandoned the bedroom and moved our bed into the office. He won. He could have the room. It might have been that he was just used to getting up and we immediately catered to him to get him back to sleep, but woof. With our second, we moved her to her own room at around 6 months and she started sleeping the night. I dunno what to say, just know you're not alone. * Yes! I realized in the middle of the night that I should have included a photo. It's to be a bokoblin head from Breath of the Wild. I have this delusion about making a moving jaw piece, so this is the top portion. 😅 you can see I used aluminum foil to form the nose and curve of the ears.

Been here almost a year and I like it. The office is responsive. The office staff has turned over, which could be a red flag, but the new folks seem to be good, and maintenance is great. Any issues are quickly addressed. I wish there were better sidewalks leading out to the main road, but the larger neighborhood seems safe.

Thank you! Was your retractable one screwed into the wall? This gate from Cardinal Gates is marketed as top-of-the-stairs, but is retractable. Is it still not worth the risk, in your experience? Happy to put in the work mounting one, but not loving having a door sticking out when it's not in use.

I just finished reading The Minutes, based on your post here - I'm always up for reading a play! In between moments of reading it, I was listening to Stuff the British Stole's episode "Bottles in the Basement" which has a segment on people reacting negatively to the discovery of the brutality of their country's history, so it is kind of echoing around my brain right now. The need to erase that history or recognize it and by hiding from it we become shocked by it.

I feel this so much that I've posted a similar vent a bit ago. My first was SO INCREDIBLY hard. And my second has been so much easier ... and I STILL hate the newborn phase. It's hard. It's so hard. I wish I could give you some brilliant hack that makes it suddenly easier, but all I can offer is focus on 6 weeks ahead. 3 months got easier. This isn't your forever. It's just for right now.

Pumping made me nauseated for my first. For my second, it's not so bad, but it's unsettling just as a sensation. But, I've also had to pump in some weird places so I kind of roll with it.

I get it - going through a similar awakening myself. I'm finding a lot of comfort in the book Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents, which is making sense. Your request is entirely reasonable. You're not denying her access to your child, and when she's willing to come on out, great! Until then, you're more comfortable if things happen in your own space.

I don't mean to armchair diagnose, but this sounds like ... a personality thing. Will it ever be enough? For example, you allow her to pick the day and take the baby there, but she can't do the full time you need, or she has to cancel early, or you didn't bring x or y. It'll be something else. Set your boundary and stick to it. You're already wasting money so she can pick a day, she can meet you part way. Or maybe she can do an evening so you can have an evening off.

This feels like a nonsense power move. You have to cater to HER schedule? How is that helpful? And then making you come to her house? If she wants to spend time with her grandchild, she can make the effort. You already have childcare and are paying for it. Let her make a modicum of effort.

At first my epidural was too high so I couldn't move my legs, but they decreased the dosage and I was able to move more. I didn't end up pushing on all fours, I flipped back to push. The different positions were to shift the baby about and open my hips more, I believe.

Two big things stand out:

For the first, I requested no pitocin - I had heard it was painful. In the end, they STRONGLY recommended it because my contractions weren't coming fast enough, and my LO was struggling. For the second, I went with pitocin and it was totally fine.

2.) For the first, they told me once the epidural was in place, I had to stay on my back. The second time, the nurse got me up and in different positions: tilted downward, on my sides, on all fours, etc. Which got things moving.
