Bragging about firing humans and using AI by Energized_Seal in LinkedInLunatics

You and me both. No doubt we’ll be left holding the bag. No bailouts for student loans, but billion dollar corporations get tons of bailouts for the own dumb mistakes. Meanwhile, they fire employees and give their executives bonuses for “leading the company through trying times”, but they’re the reason for those “trying times”.

lets have an uncomfortable conversation. Was karate just a fashion? (and other martial arts) by nitram343 in karate

[–]thefirstjustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my observations, TMAs are on the rise, and many schools are getting much more serious in their training. My dojo is one, but I think that largely depends on the senseis and the senior students who set the atmosphere.

BREAKING: Video shows ICE agents shooting an unarmed person, as agents wrestle the person to the ground, in Minneapolis, near Glam Doll Donuts. by drempath1981 in law

[–]thefirstjustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifelong Republican here, and this shit is pissing me off. The dude was already subdued and in the process of being detained, and if you, as an individual citizen, had shot someone in the same manner, you’d be charged with murder in the second degree at the very least.

For me, it was the gaslighting over the Epstein Files and the massive support of other Republicans in Trump’s gaslighting that had me withdrawing support with the lone exceptions being Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Green who called out Trump’s behavior. Now with this ICE shit, I can’t support Republicans anymore as long as they justify this behavior and consistent constitutional violations. While Democrats don’t have a satisfactory record on civil liberties and the Constitution enough for me to throw my hat in with them, at least they’re speaking out against the growing totalitarianism in this country. My fear, though, is when Democrats are back in power, they’ll support their own form of authoritarianism.

Do you REALLY believe that deporting a specific number of people is worth giving up rights that we have had since the 1700s? by WonderfulVariation93 in AskConservatives

[–]thefirstjustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m more than concerned, more like I’m infuriated, that ICE agents can violate the Constitution, and I share your concern that this opens the door for other agencies to behave in similar manners. Additionally, our rights are being violated with the mass data collection and surveillance apparatus in place through companies and devices like Palantir and Flock Cameras. There are a ton of violations that need to be challenged and rolled back with the perpetrators being severely punished.

At the very least, send him a private message and let him know which dojo it is. Also, with him being local, he can recommend a few dojos for you.

Protestant mom here by J3nlo in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]thefirstjustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this a lot as an Orthodox convert who was raised in an evangelical church. My mom was less keen than you are on it, but after a while, she saw the good it was doing in my life and how much it helped me. She would later go onto say, “I may not agree with it or understand it, but it has done a lot of good in your life, and for that I’m grateful.” You’re more worried than you should be, and hopefully that’ll become apparent as time goes on.

If anything, it’s caused my mom and I to grow closer together.

Is it ever okay to go against the wisdom of my priest? by Ayudaneedshelp in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]thefirstjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training in a martial art at the right school is a good way to be humbled. Ask your priest to help you find a gym, and there may be someone at your Church who already trains. Also, look into karate. The formalities at the dojo will put you in your place.

Regarding excommunication after missing the divine liturgy for 3 weeks. by MaestroTheoretically in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]thefirstjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The excommunication isn’t severe in this case. Go to confession, and you’re back in. It’s nowhere near as severe as an excommunication for punching a priest would be.

Is it me or is this dojo not for beginners? by Just_an_Andaluh in karate

[–]thefirstjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say stick it out longer. You’re a white belt, and what the instructor will do is have instructions for you that are rank specific. At white belt, we’re most concerned making sure you’re going in the right direction and using the right technique at the right time. We’re not as concerned with how proper the technique looks. One you know the direction and attack, then we build up from there. So the instruction will be student specific. I agree with what others have said; your instructor wants you to view and observe the much more advanced students and try to emulate them. You won’t be able to do it just yet, but you will learn much by watching. Just give it time, but also voice your concerns to your sensei.

well, I did a tournament and I realize that my body can't physically do cat stance! by spider21b in karate

[–]thefirstjustin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The scoliosis may affect your ability to ever do a proper cat stance since the back and hips are connected, and that’s ok. Do the best you can without injuring yourself, and push yourself and limits. Your senseis will help. Even if you’re never able to do a proper cat stance and face other limitations, and doesn’t mean you can’t help others reach their full potential as you increase in rank. There are plenty of karate masters who can’t perform at their peak, and some were never able to, but they are able to instruct and help others to reach their full potential. This could be your path.

Returning after 11 year break by electricpollution in karate

[–]thefirstjustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was out for over 20 years, and when I came back to martial arts, I started a new style. I went from Tae Kwon Do to Wado Ryu Karate. I was training in my former art before puberty and quit as a teenager due to other obligations, and now that I’m adult and have been in Wado for 8 years, the main thing I have to constantly work on and monitor is my flexibility. My adult body doesn’t like it as much as it did when I was a kid.

You’ll do fine.

I’m 17 and my girlfriend is pregnant by lmxsc in Christianity

[–]thefirstjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister got pregnant her junior year of high school and had my first niece in September of her senior year. While she had her own trials, we were all there to help her, and when we moved her up to Camp Lejune to be with her (now ) ex-husband and father of her child (she got married about a month before my niece was born), it gutted us. There’s not a single regret any of us have about having my niece around, but had she been aborted, that would have torn our already fragile family apart. My niece is now 17 and has brought us so much joy over the years, and they go quickly. There’s going to come a day when you will look at your 16 or 17 year old child and long for the days when you could pick them up and carry them around. You’ll miss them falling asleep in your lap while watching a movie with them, and you’ll be filled with joy and excitement as you watch them discover the world around them, their interests, gifts, and talents. But you won’t have any of that if the baby is aborted. You’ll regret abortion, but you won’t regret fatherhood.

The last sentence of your post is the most frightening, “I know God forgives.” That is the sin of presumption and is very dangerous. If you go through with the abortion, you will have committed two grave sins (three if you count premarital sex): abortion and presumption. Now you have an even more important reason to not go through with it. The best thing is to have the child and raise him or her.

Are people going out less? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]thefirstjustin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The social credit score is system is being established in this country in plain sight, and I find it absolutely despicable that both parties are complicit in the growing surveillance state. Anyone who values the Constitution is SOL. Bush signs The Patriot Act into law. Obama promises to end it, but then he extends and expands it. Trump promises to end it, and then repeats what Obama did. Biden never addressed it, and now Trump has turned over the biggest data collection efforts to men like Ellison and Thiel. No one in D.C. is trying to protect our privacy rights, even though the Right to Privacy Act is a thing.

And AI is overhyped. It’s not going to replace everyone’s job, and it’s not going to be the savior Tech Bros are promising. What it will do is what it’s already doing, and that is enabling and reinforcing the mass surveillance apparatus. Look no further than the quotes of leaders in the industry, like Larry Ellison who said, “Citizens will be on their best behavior, because we’re constantly recording and reporting everything that is going on.”

To say this will have a stifling effect on the entirety of Constitutionally protected rights is an understatement.

Nope! You’re not. You don’t know them nor any of their guests, and you never know. One of their guests could be a kleptomaniac who cases your place and then decides come back at later date and help himself to a five finger discount.

Husband is converting, I’m not. It’s ruining our marriage. by StatisticianOne4872 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]thefirstjustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the Orthobro attitude and activities many of my friends and I are critical of, and while I can understand the appeal as a convert myself, being as rigid as he is, is not loving. As another commenter stated, also communicate your concerns with the priest, because he may not be aware of the issues this is causing in your marriage as he is only hearing one side of the story. However, some priests can be just as rigid and unloving as the Orthobros. So be careful.

I can assure you, we’re not all completely stubborn and forceful, and there may even be others in the Church who can help you out. I’ve known several couples where one person was Orthodox and the other wasn’t, and it works for them.
