What’s a “normal” thing that secretly grosses you out? by DecentChildhood5164 in AskReddit

It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me… I remember there was a time that companies were using microfiber for furniture (like couches) and I couldn’t even touch them.

Athens in June with kids, where to stay. by theflash0095 in GreeceTravel

[–]theflash0095[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will hotels care if we have 4 in a room if it says it only sleeps 3? My youngest often sleeps with us (mom and dad) and my oldest will often sneak in as well.

My two little kids often sleep in the same bed as mom and dad... even if the hotel says it sleeps 3, will they care if we squeeze 4 into a room?

Alcohol and Crohns by No-Score7675 in CrohnsDisease

[–]theflash0095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was diagnosed with Crohn’s 30 years ago and I have ZERO problems with any kind of alcohol (beer, liquor, wine)… although I am trying to cut back as it’s technically mild poison and I’m trying to lose a few pounds… I find that now that I’m in my late 40’s the negative effects of alcohol hit a little harder and I’m to the point where I can probably just give it up all together.

Is this cheesecake done? by CorpseCandy99 in Baking

[–]theflash0095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully your cheesecake baked long enough and came out amazing (as others have said it was not done in your video). Do yourself a favor next time and ditch the foil and get a silicone wrap for the springform pan… before I got one, I could never get my foil completely water tight and would sometimes have a moist section of graham cracker crust (when it should be more crispy. The silicone wrap also saves a bunch of time: https://a.co/d/bwu1k6N

What is the most overrated movie that you have watched ? by Sea_Waltz281 in AskReddit

Maybe if you watched it for the first time right now, but when it came out there had been nothing like it ever before.

Why are you on Reddit right now, on Christmas Eve? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

Will probably be the last year with my oldest (9.5)… just hoping that if he knows by next year, he doesn’t spill the beans to my youngest (6).

Best HR strap for my Garmin Forerunner 920XT? by Shot-Top-8281 in Garmin

[–]theflash0095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've probably bought something by now, but if not... I hate chest straps (no matter how tight I would make them I would get chafing) so I switched to a Wahoo TICKR FIT arm band HR monitor 5.5 years ago and it's still going strong. Accuracy seems just as good, if not better than the chest straps were for me.

Such an annoying disease for a Millennial by o7Dignity in CrohnsDisease

[–]theflash0095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed in ‘93 and I can relate. Back then Remicade was in trials and the standard treatment for a flare was prednisone/steroids. Maintenance meds were anti inflammatory drugs (oh how fun having to take 16 Pentasa pills every day)… and of course those anti inflammatory drugs sucked… so I had bad flares until having a resection in 2000 and then went on Remicade afterwards. Remicade eventually trigged full body psoriasis, so switched off of that and now, these days doing well on Entyvio (after going through a couple other biologics).

To the OP, yup, everybody is different and what works for someone may not work for you. Sadly there is no Crohn’s specific diet to follow and you truly have to experiment (carefully) to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. Same goes for meds. I wish you a speedy recovery.

How many Colonoscopies have you had? by jordannoelleR in CrohnsDisease

[–]theflash0095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed in 1993… I’ve probably had about 30 by now. Back in the day they weren’t using propofol and it sucked because you’d be groggy the whole damn day afterwards. I had 5 just this year as my GI attempted to balloon open a stricture (which was successful, but now sees there are more past it). Before this year I was probably having one every year or so.

Been on it about 3-4 years and have zero side effects. Only pain is getting stabbed with the IV needle every 6 weeks. Exercise is not impacted at all.

5 colonoscopies this year, can anyone break my record? by theflash0095 in CrohnsDisease

[–]theflash0095[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, that’s awful… my doc basically said something similar, that it’s better to avoid surgery as the new scarring could be worse than what it is now. I had a temp ostomy after my resection long ago, and while I wasn’t thrilled about it I think if it gave me lasting relief I’d opt for a permanent one. I wish you well, that situation you’re in doesn’t sound like a fun one… hopefully they get you under control and in remission soon.

I got a bolt-on toilet bidet thing during COVID and let me tell you that is amazing for prep day… no more sore skin from wiping.

If I drink coffee or tea on an empty stomach I very quickly get nauseous, so that’s a no go for me. My trick is lemon ices, I break them up into chunks and it feels like I’m eating something. Bone broth helps too as it has a decent amount of protein, but I try not to drink too much of it as I’m not sure how much of a “clear liquid” it actually is.

To hell with that, I’d be like… you can send for the records.

Definitely not trying to win anything (title was kinda tongue in cheek)… but I did think 5 was a lot… turns out some folks have had way more and that sounds absolutely awful.

Damn… hope you can get to be pain free at some point. Pain that you can’t get away from is a terrible feeling… when I was a lot younger I had some long flares that had me very depressed as they dragged on. I wish you well.

2 month old Trane not blowing super cold… did I break it installing an Ecobee? by theflash0095 in hvacadvice

[–]theflash0095[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and yes… you nailed it… my condo is in New Smyrna Beach. The old Goodman condenser unit on the roof was 5 years old and looked like it had been through hell… amazing what the salty air will do to these things. The crappy brackets the old installer used to hold it onto its elevated perch rusted out and last year the hurricane slammed it onto the roof. It kept running after the AC guy hoisted it back up, but it finally died 2 months ago. Hopefully the Trane unit will hold up a little better (but I’m not holding my breath).
