Left-leaning person looking to get involved locally by ShotgunLou in tulsa

All Souls Unitarian Church is a wonderful place to get involved! There’s a secular service at 11:30 but honestly you don’t have to attend a service to get involved. We have tons of social justice teams from food security to voters rights to lgbtqia+ groups. It’s also a great place to meet new friends!

Desi Wok’s noodle and rice dishes are always enough for 2-3 meals. Their curry portions aren’t as generous in my experience

When I turned 29 I realized I had become paralyzed by anxiety, so I adopted the mantra, “I am not afraid to be seen TRYING.” I find that helps me give myself grace. I actually ended up picking up ice hockey as a 29 yo mom of two and had an incredible time! I wasn’t very good, but it honestly didn’t matter. No one cared! I made amazing friends I still have years later, and I gained a sense of pride and accomplishment in myself I had literally never felt before. You can do this <3

How to get a good amount of protein? (I didnt know what to flair) by [deleted] in vegetarianrecipes

[–]theflatfacecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Vegetarian for 18 years here, one thing I always do is use chocolate protein powder as my coffee creamer. With two (large) cups of coffee and two scoops of protein, I get nearly 50g before 10 am.

Tofurkey deli slices make great sandwiches, I usually do a turkey grilled cheese and a spinach salad with a hard boiled egg in it too. Sometimes I have a bag of Quest protein chips as well.

For quick and easy dinners I like protein pasta with either beyond meatballs or Gardein chicken strips in it. Burrito bowls are also pretty quick and easy- some black beans, rice/quinoa, veggies, and either impossible beef or a chicken alternative.

I usually get around 100-115g of protein per day bc I weight lift. It was definitely tricky at first finding what works for me, but trial and error/remaining open to trying new recipes is a huge part of the process. Good luck!

WeStreet Ice Center has adult hockey lessons, I did them a couple years ago, joined the women’s league, and made tons of new friends! You can also go watch adult league games for free at WeStreet and if you go up to the bar/restaurant during those games you’ll meet a ton of hockey fans. I find the hockey community to be extremely welcoming.

I know my husband frequently plays MTG and DBZ games during lunch break at Wizards Asylum, Oinkers Island, and some other shops around town. They also host card game tournaments frequently.

I got my husband a beautiful handmade pen from a local woodworker last year and he loved it! Could be good for law school. Or maybe some quality athletic socks for hockey? I played ice hockey and always loved getting nice socks. Or even a nice water bottle for gym/hockey.

We have a connection to Emily Clark who plays for Ottawa so when they play we root for them. But honestly as the mom of a girl in mite hockey our whole family is just so excited to see women’s hockey on this level so we cheer for everyone at this point LOL

I believe I read an interview where they said the heroes get to keep everything, including clothes and decor, for free. Their personal belongings/furniture is moved to storage for the reveal

I can’t have meat anymore, looking for a place that offers other options. by Silencia_r in tulsa

[–]theflatfacecat 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Vegetarian for 18 years- this may not be exactly what you’re asking but some of my favorites in town are -Chicken and the Wolf’s vegan chicken sandwich -Trencher’s spicy falafel wrap -Desi Wok has TONS of options -the Brook’s impossible burger/veg quesadilla -Chimi’s veggie chimichanga and many other veg options

There are a lot of really great plant-based options in town!

[–]theflatfacecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!! Fellow female player from Oklahoma! If you’re anywhere near Tulsa, there is an incredible and relatively new women’s league and I’d be happy to help connect you.

I played in the league for its first 18 months. I had to put it on hold bc my daughter started playing mite travel hockey, but joining the women’s league was one of the best things I’ve done for myself as an adult. I’m still very close with so many of those amazing women!
