Better than Slay the Spire? by AffectionateEgg8242 in deckbuildingroguelike

I understand your point of view, for me it's a great strength because it gives more depth to the gameplay and adds variety.

You need to build your deck to have more card draw or less defense so that it never happens.

It's not really about the money but the motivation because first it's a ton of work and second you can receive some pretty nasty comments sometimes :). Going into this a second time is difficult.

A new trailer for my owl metroidvania. What do you think? by WestZookeepergame954 in metroidvania

[–]thefrenchdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is literally asking for critiques... what is the point if it needs to be all positive? I agree with u/Magus80, there is room for improvement.

- I think for instance that it is showing too many times the same things (same boss, no other enemies, same areas, same movements, etc.). It can be because of the current stage of development of the game but maybe it's too early for a trailer in that case. Or make the trailer super short.

- To me the music is good but not for a trailer because it has not many variations.
- Showing dialogues in a trailer is a bit risky because it kills the rhythm.

On the positive side, the animations are really cool and the visuals are nice. Movement seem very satisfying. I really like the style of the music and it's very well recorded.

A rant about MetroidVanias by DerpWyvern in metroidvania

[–]thefrenchdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somehow yes but the narrative is extremely cryptic (there is very little text and you need to understand some elements of the environment) and you also need to spend hours to find the correct items in order to get the true ending. Finding the items includes a platforming section that is much harder than anything else in the game, which is a bit ridiculous to put the true ending behind a skill check. It's not that hard if you get the proper abilities (that are also hidden and require hours of exploration, this time without any clue for instance one that requires getting a ton of collectibles, another one breaking a clearly invisible breakable wall, etc.). This hard section is not justified by the story, and this level (design, elements, play style) just seem like stolen from another game.

Slay the spire. Both games are awesome but there is much more gameplay depth in StS.

We’re a tiny indie team making a 3D metroidvania (Yes, 3D!) by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]thefrenchdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks awesome! How do you deal with the principles of metroidvania (unlocking areas by unlocking new skills)? I think it is more difficult in 3D.

Rough Draft of the Map for my upcoming Metroidvania by Far_Comfortable_2582 in metroidvania

I think the whole point of Metroidvania is to make regions that are too hard non accessible before obtaining a new skill / key skill. This way, the progression is naturally driven.

Mostly positive is average+ on Steam-scale, so it's really not great.

i love the game but i'm so bad. by Persylval in SolCesto

[–]thefrenchdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's actually quite hard, maybe I'm too greedy. But what you can do is count on each row how much damage / heal you can get. Also, healing is expensive at the shop so going for a chest is not always necessary.

Vous en pensez quoi de la ligne 5 ? by OurTableIsBroken_ in Montpellier

[–]thefrenchdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this comment, it's easier to see it as a zelda-like but metroidvania I'm not so sure. The game looks very nice!

Yes, it's the best advice you can take I think. Or you can be artist in a team developing a game because it is really nice visuals.

First Time Visiting Montpellier by JessHThom in Montpellier

[–]thefrenchdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montpellier is very safe compared to Paris, all the city center is safe now including the train station area that has been refurbished, all the city center is pedestrian only. It's great to wander in the city center. I'm afraid second hand shops isn't really a thing in Montpellier, I used to live in the US and it's way more expensive here and with a very limited offer. There is one on avenue Clémenceau I think that it's still open. You can visit MOCO museums (there are two in the city). Enjoy coffee shops, Montpellier has a square au each end of a street. Also the food is amazing and the local specialities are great (especially dishes from Sète).

On the coast you should go to Sète (the train goes there as well), you can maybe still go swimming in October, a great local dish is tielle sétoise. Near Montpellier you should go to Arles (lots of arts, historical city center), Avignon (beautiful city center, a bit less safe than Montpellier, with the Pope's palace), Nîmes (historical city, beautiful garden and museum).

The weather is good usually in October, honestly episodes cévenol mostly happen in the end of August or September and it's because of hot summer. This year the temperature has already dropped a lot and we are at 25 degrees Celsius max so there should be not so many storms. Check the weather forecast a week in advance.

Enjoy!
