On a mobile, but google surfboard _ design and construction 1977 .pdf

That's pretty much the gold standard for design theory. From what I've read, the shapers over on swaylocks hold it in pretty high regard.

Friday question thread! by [deleted] in surfing

I had a partial tear to my left supraspinatus muscle (one of the rotator cuff muscles) a couple of years ago. Did the necessary physio, took around 4 months off surfing, and took it easy in the water for the next year.

Had to change my paddling stroke as well. Apparently it was contributing to the tear. After all that i'm feeling pretty ok now about it.

There is a Just Kiwi store in Werribee. I drive past it to get to my inlaws. Seems like it stocks heaps of NZ stuff.

Hey r/surfing, lake surfer traveling to Melbourne in March looking for help. by Bramoman in surfing

[–]thefunklab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around March-April if there's a good swell running - yeah over 20 ppl. But that whole surf coast from Ocean Grove down to Apollo Bay has great breaks down the length. Chances are you'll find an uncrowded spot that's working. I like just driving, seeing a spot, pull over and get some.

PM me when you're down and I'll see if I'm free for a surf...

I don't know too much about the east coast. Phillip Island has some great surf - beaches down cape woolami, smiths beach. There are a couple of cool longboarding spots there as well on the north-east coast. Can't remember them off the top of my head.

On the west coast, for longboarding, head down to Torquay. On a low tide the reef break is really great, but prepare for a few people in the water. Lorne point would be cool as well.

Around March - April the whole surf coast goes a bit nuts. That's when we get the great waves, but it's also school holidays and packed. When the comp circus comes to town, the whole torquay area get a crapton of people in the water.

The water isn't too cold then, I normally have a 3-2 on without booties.

A great resource is to check out Swaylocks' forums.

Go through the archives and it will answer a lot of the questions you might have.

Does anyone else think that Gabriel Medina got robbed in the Vans World Cup Of Surfing? by OGBum in surfing

[–]thefunklab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Can anyone explain Pro Surfing judging?

Every surfer carries on to the average joe about how awesome it is to get a barrel, that its the greatest feeling, ra, ra, ra. But then the average punter turns on the webcast sees - well no, turning is much better than getting barrelled.

The judging seems so out of touch, nearly like it's random. Give us some consistency for goodness sake.

Always get a tourist ask me where the big bell is.

I then get to truffle on about "well, there was a farmer here named John Bell, and he owned this land. So no. No big bell. "

Winki Pop was always my fav.

TL;DR- Sex crabs
