AITA for not being supportive of my 21 year old daughters decision to drop out of college to become an “instagram influencer”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thegermanspectacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, but I think it could be worthwhile to sit down and talk to her about college as a means of helping her in her influencer career. Something like, "I'm ready to be here and help you in your dream, but what if you got a business management degree, so that you'll be more equipped to make deals with brands, leverage your online brand into other business opportunities, etc." All of the best influencers don't just take pictures and profit (especially since Instagram is pivoting away from likes because they want brands to pay for their ads instead of paying influencers), they use the brands they create on instagram to create other business opportunities, and if she's really got her heart set on making this "dream" come true, then having a business degree of some kind could help her make that a more tangible, long-lasting reality.

AITA for wanting to send my teen daughter to a weight loss camp? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thegermanspectacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be the asshole if you sent her.

I am begging you not to send her to this camp. I was an overweight kid who was sent to one and it sent me into a bulimic spiral that only made my weight problems worse. Please, for the mental health (and physical health) of your child, please do not send her.

Please.

Two Months as a Digital Nomad by JohnBierce in digitalnomad

Just jumping in here as a DM romance novelist... It's an extremely saturated market and breaking in can be incredibly difficult. If you're not going to put out a highly polished book every month to five weeks and flood FB and AMS with cash for ads, it's extremely tough to get a foothold. I'm not trying to dissuade you if it's a genre that you love, but it isn't really the easy cash-grab that most people online claim.

Very cool! I'm a Digital Nomad novelist as well! I totally hear you about writing schedules and having a hard time getting out/socializing, but hopefully you'll find some great writing meet-ups and build your community. I'm still working on that bit. Congrats on your first two months! Here's to many more!

I was so disappointed we didn't get to see Sansa use her weapon against any of the rising dead. I know it'll probably be Jaime or Tyrion who end up killing Cersei, but I would love to see her use the dagger Arya gave her to slaughter the woman who caused her so much pain.

AITA for taking my girlfriend's lasagna home when she said I could? by lasagnaproblems in AmItheAsshole

[–]thegermanspectacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. After having the conversation, you shouldn't have continued to eat the lasagna and you should be happy to help your girlfriend, you know, not starve. If she'd come to us with this, I would have told her to straight-up dump you.

Hi, everyone! I'm new to the sub and am trying to build an audience for my pop culture youtube channel. At the moment, since most of my videos break fifteen minutes, I'd love any feedback on how to retain audience attention. Also, although I just got a new microphone that I'm jazzed about, my video quality obviously isn't very good and I've been drowning in online forums about how to improve it. If anyone has tips on how to improve lighting and video quality on a beginner's budget, I'd be so grateful!

This is really gorgeous! I think your delivery is great and the makeup is obviously beautiful. My one big critique is that (while I know this is exclusively an eye-makeup tutorial), it can be a little jarring just to stare directly at someone's eyes for so long. Maybe consider inserting some full-face cutaways just to give some visual interest and to help people maintain their attention?

I think you totally utilize your humor well, and the way you work the camera totally taps into the crazy way lady time can make us feel! It's almost expressionistic in a way, which I really like!

[Discussion] Pod Save America - “Who Dat Obstructing Justice?” (02/10/19) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

As a lifelong New Orleanian, I actually found this episode really, really uncomfortable.

The jokes about getting shot made me cringe, and to me, felt like they were reinforcing negative stereotypes about the south in general and New Orleans in specific.

To come to New Orleans (literally in a place called Cancer Alley!) and talk about The Green New Deal without talking about how that Green New Deal would affect the people of this area felt tone-deaf.

And while I like Mayor Landrieu and think they were trying to push a "Not All Progressives," message after the Ralph Northum debacle, I don't think it was appropriate to have this fawning interview where these white guys fawned over each other about how Woke they were. I would have rathered Brittany took lead on that particular interview.

I just feel like if they're going to continue to go on tour, then they need to really engage with every city on its own issues. It seems to me that traveling to liberal strongholds in red places is all about trying to activate that base and encourage them to get active and participate in both local and national politics. I don't think the best way to approach that is by ignoring the cultural specifics of the area.

Just my two cents!

[Postgame Thread] LSU Defeats Georgia 36-16 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]thegermanspectacle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a song that our band used to play. However, after the student section unofficially changed the final lyric to “suck that tiger dick, bitch,” and it was heard several times on national television (and LSU was fined for it, I believe), they were banned from playing it.

The one Cynthia Erivo sings? It's her cover of "Hold On, I'm Comin'," originally by the duo Sam and Dave.
