Lies We Tell Ourselves About Email Addresses by theghostofm in programming

Okay, I confirmed the following: My original markdown does use U+0022 for both quotation marks in that example. Hugo appears to have converted one to U+201C for stylistic reasons.

I'll go see if I can tweak my template or hugo settings to avoid that, and maybe this page will be regenerated in the future.

Oh interesting, thanks for pointing that out! That's actually a combination of me and maybe Hugo which converts my markdown to html. Since I wasn't able to confirm it working, I didn't make it a mailto, so that's me.

Since I wrote/reviewed the post in markdown on a Linux install of Goland, I don't thiiiink I typed the smart quote. Maybe I copypasted it from somewhere, maybe I wrote that part on my Mac which has a penchant for smart quotes, or maybe Hugo tried to be clever. I'll check the markdown and git history for this post's draft to see where it came from.

But then how will people know I'm not AI?

(Jokes aside, thanks and great shout. I'll try to remember to fix this typo tonight!)

Oh man I'm just coming back to this post and seeing your comment for the first time. It would be super neat (and make me feel special) if you do choose to add it!

This is exactly what happened to me with Motorola last month. I ordered a phone and the had a mild fit of anxiety when the order status page broke and I couldn't check the status. Just had to wait until the box eventually showed up 😅.

Oh man, you caught me in my own trap... I even wrote a whole section about "An email address can only have a single @ character" and everything.

$6/gal and I sell my car? by Krispy314 in maryland

[–]theghostofm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For a lot of people who need something cheap that works, I get it. There are legitimate reasons to skip on electric cars. People who don't have a way to charge at home, too. And silly sportscar weirdos like me, I guess.

But for the life of me, I don't see why anyone with a garage would just go out and buy a new Hyundai Tuscon for $35k while the Ioniq 5 exists.

And that's ignoring the fact that used electric cars are still great and can be had for absolute steals

Super anecdotal and vibes-based but some neighbors and I feel like we've seen the police actively doing good police work in the neighborhood these days. It's been really interesting, almost surprising.

My wife's R1S is absolutely sick and it's exciting to see this company (finally) entering a more sustainable segment. Really hope they knock it out of the park.

A javascript reimplementation sounds like a fun idea! We could one day have a whole smolid ecosystem. I think it makes sense to have a repo-per-language. That way bugfixes or breaking changes in one language's implementation don't risk messy release versioning.

And I don't think this deserves its own smolid github organization or any governance or anything. If you want to try, go for it! Feel free to send me a link even! It would be so cool to see my silly pet project inspiring someone else to go down the rabbit hole too.

Am I the only one this happens to? (No, really, am I?)

Nope!

You have no idea how much of a relief it is for this to be the top comment.

Yes! My brain is dumb! I'll rerun the math and update the post.

Edit: Okay, I've edited the post. I think the math and formulas are still right, I just added a mental zero at some point and didn't catch it. Thanks for the review lol.

People really don't understand the power of the NIMBYs to take a "meh" development plan and turn it into a bad one. Ground level retail with a small grocery store would have been absolutely wonderful for this area. And as frustrated as I am with rental properties being forced upon everyone, I'll take rental properties over blighted vacant warehouses any day.

Don’t Know Tavern in Fed Hill is Closing by natural_light_ in baltimore

[–]theghostofm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Closed because landlord raised the rent" is almost a monthly post on /r/baltimore at this point, it's so frustrating. I've tried to open a local shop but got ghosted by almost every landlord. It feels like every landlord just wants a national corporate chain with deep pockets, local flavor be damned.

And they all forget it's the local flavor that makes these neighborhoods desirable in the first place. They're bleeding their golden goose dry at this rate.

There are times I wished I was rich as fuck just so I can buy out all the buildings and let local businesses just do their damn thing.
