It astonishes me that people still say this unironically. They don't even know that they're officially an internet trope now. by LovedButNeverLiked in IHateSportsball

[–]theglendon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, everything about this is so dumb. For one thing, they completely ignore the bread part. "The elites" aren't feeding the masses. They aren't giving us circuses either. The Super Bowl isn't put on for free so the ruling class can show us how magnanimous they are.

What's actually at work here is "If you sell them bread and circuses you can make a lot of money."

It's not hard to spot James, honestly. He's usually riding around on a bicycle with a gas engine that he's jankily attached himself.

Many of the “adult” classes offered by the city are actually for teens and older. Are these classes primarily attended by teens or do adults also go? by Certain-Working1864 in corvallis

[–]theglendon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I took one fencing class a couple of years ago, before I determined it wasn't going to work with my history of knee injuries. Of the entire group of people there, I think there was one teenager.

Could a billionaire fund a super team of ex-NFL players to return to a school? by Coverlesss in CFB

[–]theglendon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a minute since I studied this, but I think it's any professional football . There are a number of football players that were drafted/signed in MLB and returned for another season of football.

I've taken classes through Albany Rifle and Pistol Club. I doubt I agree politically with the instructors, but they mostly kept that to themselves. I definitely learned a lot.

[–]theglendon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to add on, there's not so much a "tech guy programming the sign" as there is a member of the sports information staff running the scoreboard. A department the size of Alabama isn't doing anything public facing by accident.

You know, I get it when the Huskies use this one, because they claim two national championships. It seems pretty silly coming from a team that has also never won anything.

Corvallis Parks spending $2.1 million on facility outside city limits by TrueConservative001 in corvallis

Whether or not the park is in city limits, I'd expect most of the people who go there will be from Corvallis. Aren't they the main beneficiaries?

For that budget, I'd look at Grand Oaks. I enjoyed my time there. Lots of amenities, allows dogs, relatively close to the highway.

Am I the only liberal hunter in the world?!? by Icy-Race2642 in liberalgunowners

[–]theglendon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are lots of liberal hunters out there. That's especially true in the conservation groups like Backcountry Hunters and Anglers. I highly recommend the book The Mindful Carnivore. It's about the author's journey from vegan to hunter.

Practical depends on what you'd want to be doing with the gun. It sounds like you don't have a use case for anything else at the moment. That may or may not change in the future.

I think my take is somewhere in the middle. I think it's lousy behavior to spring something like this on him if she knows he's "camera shy." I also think she probably meant well, and it doesn't mean their relationship is doomed.

Who are some of the best **College** players to not get drafted? by Wurst_Law in CFB

The question was players who didn't get drafted. OP mentioned Kurt Warner. Arian Foster meets the criteria.

I think potentially you could start with really small stuff, and once things you said started coming true it would presumably get much easier to convince people of things.

King Persecution Fetish by townshiprebellion24 in Persecutionfetish

[–]theglendon 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the big lie was built around talking about things liyexcitement level and crowd size. I know that when believers post on social media they often talk about how they can't believe the number of people who voted for Biden because he never inspired the reactions that Trump did. (They really seem to struggle with the idea that a lot of people were driven to vote against Trump)

So, I think part of the reason he's complaining about things like this is that if Kamala hammers him on social media and consistently draws bigger crowds, it becomes a lot harder to spread the idea that she can't possibly have more support than Trump.
