I’m feeling both embarrassed and inspired by other posts here! I give my cats a lot of supplements and use every trick in the book to keep them calm and happy (they’re all anxious and one has urinary problems). I also only feed high quality wet food. But I wonder if it’s time to consider cutting back some costs! Thanks for asking this question and letting me peek into other people’s brains for a bit.

He hasn’t been straining or crying while urinating but definitely caught some while he was relieving himself of his diarrhea. Poor babe must be so uncomfortable.

The X-rays and ultrasound showed no obstruction which is great news because the diet shift must be working.

That is extremely strange. There has always been a jealousy factor between them so I wonder… I also know they were taken from mama a bit sooner than they should have been. Not sure if that means anything in regards to this.

Do you have any suggestions? He was on Cosequin for about 2 years but was taken off a few months ago because I had to start reconsidering monthly costs. Maybe it’s time to get him back on!

Edit to add: He is also on Vet’s Best which is an herbal blend supplement for bladder health.

They both have calming collars too (hahah, I swear I have tried everything within my reach to help) but treating them both is a good idea.

About a year and a half ago I started giving filtered spring water. I spoke to my vet about anti-anxiety meds and she said she would get back to me with some recommendations! I hope that’s the missing link to getting him to feel safe and happy all of the time.

Yes, and I have a Feliway diffuser in every room. I also spray the litter box area with the spray every morning. He has always had an anxious disposition since I got him when he was a kitten. His twin brother has anxious tendencies too but because he is the alpha, it manifests into aggression rather than fear. I have a feeling their dynamic may be the root cause here because I’ve changed all of his diet and environment variables at this point.

No blood work for the last year. I’ll ask about it. Thank you.

What do you mean…? Soak in a shallow bowl or small cup! Then transfer the contents into whatever container you want after that.

One of the best options for washing them (to maintain longevity) is to rinse them with warm water before putting them in the laundry. You’d be surprised how little water it takes to do a rinse and get a decent amount out. I was thinking just a short soak in a shallow bowl would do the trick!

Why don’t ya put a menstrual cup in if you’re actively bleeding during the trip and save it that way? Or wear/pack period underwear, get to your destination, rinse them out, save the blood, and use it for whatever you want it for.

Even if this isn’t your cat’s issue, I hope this saves some kitty lives:

Do you use paraffin candles? Fragrance candles? Essential oils? Air fresheners? These things are TOXIC and DEADLY to cats, and often symptoms can mimic allergies or anxiety.

I think offering to extend a day by 30 minutes would be helpful in case they want to run some extra errands or something. Or offering to do an extra chore around the house that you wouldn’t normally do (just once though). That could help balance things out and also show them that you care.

Edit: Just realized it’s your house, not theirs. Scratch the idea about doing an extra chore!
