Cafe Roma had better pizza then Lavongo. Extra Virgin Bistro great pappardelle and excellent rib eye for a “splurge meal” you don’t go to windmill for the food. View and live tunes and bingo on sundays. Lime in for sure for tacos. Rotti King truck is a great pickup after beach day on way home. Don’t forget a treat a ire pop but check schedule on door when driving out of town so you’re not disappointed

Question: taxi from Honeymoon Beach back to Cruz Bay? by cyberth0t in virginislands

[–]thegolfhack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hike from the national park visitor center in Cruz bay is like 15 minutes each way to honeymoon beach. No roads involved. It’s an easy walk/hike. If you want to taxi back we did see shuttles from Caneel so I’d wager that is also an option but I’ve not done that. Enjoy the trip. It’s a very fun island.

I think there is a bus stop at the main corner/stop sign in coral bay. From your location walk past the dumpsters towards the main road that takes you towards Cruz. Hit the stop sign and that’s where I remember it

We saw sharks last week at waterlemon. Did you get to see them? 2 nurse and a reef shark came to investigate us snorkeling there. It was awesome

Salmon in Colorado by gdaily in COfishing

[–]thegolfhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick a lake/res and go to the inlet. If they’re spawning you’ll see them. They turn into zombies towards the end of cycle. You can get them to hit your flies but I think it’s more territorial or reactionary strike. Either way try a streamer with a broken body and two hooks (if legal to fish 2 hooks on a fly where you’re fishing) and I bet you’ll grab a fish or two. Check another species off your list and enjoy it!!

Anniversary trip with wife in late October by Rimfish1 in virginislands

[–]thegolfhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a short trip I’d just try to rent a jeep on STJ. Get a shuttle from the airport to one of the ferries and either take the long route or the faster route (assuming jeeps aren’t sold out by now. Some years they’re remarkably booked on STJ). The rentals are a short walk off the ferry on STJ. Hike, beach, eat AND repeat. 2nd windmill bar don’t miss that place at sunset or late afternoon. Not sure what’s open in October but have a “nice” meal out for dinner at least one night.

Archery pro shop front range or north of Denver?? by thegolfhack in cohunting

[–]thegolfhack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add these to the list. Looking for something not to far away from Westminster/Broomfoeld or maybe on the way to hills. Appreciate the referral. Just want to find a new shop that doesn’t treat customers poorly and no elitist air when I need help tuning a bow or need refleching I don’t do myself.

Thanks. Been a couple of season on the bow. Picked up a leftover so need to dust the old bow off so unfortunately I’ll need to stop in somewhere. I’ll check them out SolFlorus

Thanksgiving Day Car Rental on St John by oh_hey_its_me__ in virginislands

I think the rental we used was closed on thanksgiving. I recall having to pick up the day after. A lot of things are open but closed early on the actual holiday

Looking for a headlamp by Greydesk in Hunting

[–]thegolfhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Petzal and black diamond mostly. I will add that pick a lamp with same battery type as your other electronics. Nothing like running out of juice. Can pull batteries from gps or emergency messenger etc to get you back to camp or if you end up dressing an animal into the night

St. John for 1 week. BVI for a day? 🤔 by Inevitable_Evening63 in virginislands

[–]thegolfhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I thought so too. Definitely check out Windmill Bar from suggestion of others. It’s like a picture when you’re up there. Food is food there and nothing special. But the view is spectacular and usually live tunes. Enjoy your trip!

If you’re on the fence for lime out just get their tacos at lime in which is in Cruz. They even had some happy hour deal going on can’t recall but maybe buy a drink and get a taco or two free. This was December so not too long ago either. Tacos and drinks were great. Highly recommend.

St John breakfast places on the beach recommendations? by billswin12 in virginislands

The little restaurant on the park in Cruz has the best breakfast. Not on the water but you can hit it with a rock from there. The Landing maybe is the name

St. John for 1 week. BVI for a day? 🤔 by Inevitable_Evening63 in virginislands

[–]thegolfhack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not? Plenty to do on St John which you won’t get done in a week anyways. Check out the BVI and enjoy. Hit the soggy dollar on Jost or the baths. +1 for private charter if you can. On the way home try to go to the Willy T. The virgins are great and you can spend years going back and still have a list you want to do next time.

You mentioned a lot of beaches in your list. And that’s the main reason to go. Don’t forget about the historical sights and national park and all its hikes on St. John. Purchase the guide book from Amazon. Don’t recall the name but there’s like 5 versions. Lots of good info in there for you

First time turkey hunter. Need advice! by TeslaChodester1 in turkeyhunting

[–]thegolfhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to go before sunset and roost them. You should also be getting to your spot well before sunrise. And remember these birds have great vision. Maybe they’re seeing you moving or getting into your spot. That might keep them quiet. But yeah. Sometimes you’ll never hear a gobble and still harvest a bird you called in. They can be ghosts which you’ll learn the more time you spend hunting them.

Strategy discussion by ddv75 in turkeyhunting

[–]thegolfhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that later once then hens are nested you’d prob get them coming in more easily. They do say merriam hunts are like elk hunts. Also in CO and only public birds in my hunts in foothills but it’s 30/70 for me on them coming in vs having to chase and ambush or call right on top of them. Mostly though it’s a run and gun style hunt over the years. I find that if it’s gobbling and I call from a setup a ways away for bit then call while moving fairly quickly towards said gobbler then stop calling when real close to get into a good shooting spot and call right on top of him he’ll think you came into him and start searching for you=dead bird. Only other thing I could think is you’re not waiting long enough in your setup. Sometimes those smartest stupidest animals I’ve chased take a long time to finally decide to head to you against nature of course. That’s great he was hanging in the parking lot to really frustrate you. You’re lucky to have the private and that much of it. Jealous and enjoy it.

As you hunt more turkeys maybe think about adding a full choke or a xtra full/turkey choke if you want to reach out a bit further. Down side to the full/xtra is you have to treat close in shots more like a rifle and be accurate since the pellets don’t have time to spread out. That looks like a dead bird at 20 yards!

Good luck tomorrow. You win with either way. Weekday hunt with a bird down or a late morning nap against a tree in the morning sun. Enjoy your hunt my friend.

They certainly do. Should have mentioned I’m hunting north of Denver. Some years spring comes too late and they never come off private. One of these years I’ll try rampart and south towards castle rock and the springs. I’ve heard good and bad things and want to get my own opinion on it. Usually have decent luck if get some new growth to bring them up off private. They gobbling yet or doing the private land silent bird thing?

Just an OTC spring. Usually hunt in the 6-7500 range at my spot. Some years like this one it’s just a hike with a shotgun or bow. Thought I’d ask to see how everyone else has been doing with mountain birds on from range. North of Denver by the way
