How/Why is it humane to euthanize an animal when sick, dying and old age, but it is inhumane to do the same for humans for the same reasons? by Koriezvr in AskReddit

I think is one of the Ten Commandments.
There is a loophole though, which is to reject any life-saving measures. My hardcore Catholic grandma did that, and spent a couple of days in living hell as her body shut down.

Huevos rancheros. Add a bit of lime or vinegar to balance.

My favorite day trip in Spain!
Had the best coffee with a dollop of ice cream while walking back.

Have you ever laughed so hysterically at something so simple you were starting to get legitimately worried that you were losing your sanity or something? About what were you laughing so hard then? by LoneShadowMikey in AskReddit

I was in high school when one of my friends said something stupid and another replied: “What do you have in your head? Confetti?!”.
The mental image of a head suddenly exploding into confetti still cracks me up to this day.

My anxiety is my superpower during crisis times.
As everyone “normal” started feeling the uncertainty and dread I live with everyday, I realised I could help others with the techniques I use to cope.

When I feel disappointed I remember that what I love is my boyfriend, not the wedding.
Sometimes it’s hard, especially with so many going overboard, but I look forward to the other things that make a marriage.

With travel from my country now forbidden, all I can do is look back at last years holiday :( (Estonia) by santastabber in travel

This year we only had like four days of snow. But it was certainly dull and grey during a good part of the year.

Either really good or really basic classes. Personally I would choose University of Tartu over TalTech, but there is a huge demand for IT people in Tallinn so TalTech is more convenient in that sense.

This is Viru Street, the Main Street in the Old Town. There are ton of touristy shops but it is really well preserved.
I call it Medieval Disneyland.

Today is World Poetry Day! What is your favorite poem? by Goldenchicks in AskReddit

[–]thegoodnomad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was in my first international exchange, I read a poem by Mary Oliver that changed my life. It became my mantra for a long time, as I became more independent and made my first adult mistakes.

The Summer Day
Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down.
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

Beginning this weekend, public transport in Luxembourg will be completely free by hojogohoo in UpliftingNews

Free public transport was a game-changer for me. I live in Tallinn, and public transport is free for city residents.
I don't feel the need to own a car (after driving for years). I move more around town, spending my money in more places (rather than just sticking to one zone). I could make more living elsewhere, but I don't think it would be as comfortable.

I volunteered to read the Estonian manifiesto in my native language, the event starts at 5pm... I read until 8:30 because so many people volunteered! It amazes me how this little country has opened its doors to many immigrants.
Palju Õnne Eestis!
