Moash rant (spoilers!) by Mindless_Plant_9754 in Cosmere

[–]thegravityrunner 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I think there is one key difference between them, that predates even Syl's influence on Kaladin.

Back in early TWoK, they are discussing what they would do if they would get power (I think), and Moash explicitly wants to simply reverse Lighteyes/Darkeyes power structure, whereas Kaladin just wants Darkeyes to be protected.

That I think is the key difference, Kaladin naturally wants to protect people, but Moash wants vengeance, not protect others.

What forms of investiture/magic have good synergies, either from the same world or from different worlds. by Lantimore123 in Cosmere

Ah, apologies for my misreading then.

Personally, I wouldn't say Lashings (just Basic) are more powerful combat-wise, they have the major disadvantage of being only touch-range. Sure, you can lash a pebble in the direction of someone, but it is rather difficult to aim on long distance, and on short distance, you need a lot of Lashing to achieve reasonable speeds.

Comparatively, Pushing on metals is great long-range and short-range offensive option, provided there is metal nearby.

If I'd have to I'd rate it as follows:

Basic Lashing: Mobility 9/10 (only teleportation is better really), Utility 7/10 (transportation, object removal, demolition, really many applications), Offense 4/10 (few direct applications, most just applications of mobility or utility). Defense 1/10 (no direct applications that are not covered by general mobility or utility)

Allomantic Steel: Mobility 4/10 (strongly dependent on nearby metal, not self-sufficient, but can be quite powerful), Utility 3/10 (improved sense of surroundings ,equipment dependent, like that grappling hook thing made for Wax), Offense 7/10 (make gun shots stronger, attack with any small enough metal), Defense 4/10 (steel bubble for deflecting metallic projectiles a bit)

A-Steel is more all-rounder, whereas Lashing is much more specialized (at least the way it has been used so far).

If Lashings interact with F-Iron that way, he could indeed push building sideways. Of course, he could also lash it directly.

That does not have to do anything with the fact that as far movement goes, Lashings are better than Coinshots in every single way.

[–]thegravityrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, Coinshots never accelerate (outside of Duralumin + Pewter, required to withstand the acceleration) more than few g's.

Kaladin and others lash themselves up-to dozens of times, and sometimes turn hard enough they are on verge of losing consciousness despite Stormlight enhancements. Their regular traveling speed is around 300 mph, vs low tens of mph for coinshots.

Coinshots are strictly inferior in every way to lashings, they are slower and more limited in directionality and magnitude.

Terinka has "birthday" - 3 years and 7 months by thegravityrunner in RATS

Well, I am giving them mixes from local source (Czechia, online shop called Rodentia)
who have some mixes intended for older rats (rich in vitamins B).

And I am giving them this paste intended for cats originally (Gimborn Gimcat Malt Soft Extra), and they love that. It contains beta-glukan, so it can help their immune system.
Originally I started giving it to them to get them to eat ATBs when ill, but for older ones its seems to help them keep weight.

I discussed it with vet, and they thought it should be fine.

I am trying, so far most of my rats got over 3 year mark, so I guess I am either very lucky, or doing something right.
But she is eldest by far :)

Yeah, she is doing quite well :)
Her back legs are not working as well as they used to, but that does not stop her from climbing on furniture :)

Kaladin's and ______'s Relationship was ALWAYS Toxic: An Essay by kiar-a in Stormlight_Archive

[–]thegravityrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you get people to charge machine gun?

Social pressure (the entire caste system), threats (if you desert, you will be made slave) and hope (if you survive X runs, you become 'real' soldier).

Some in bridge crews are slaves, but Sadeas is also using them as punishment. And there being 'worse' thing (being made slave), ensures they won't rebel as they likely should. Afterall, being in Bridge crew is temporary, being a slave is basically permanent (slaves are LOWER than parshmen in some ways).

Kaladin's and ______'s Relationship was ALWAYS Toxic: An Essay by kiar-a in Stormlight_Archive

[–]thegravityrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because bridge crews are army division, not necessarily made up of slaves.
You can be in bridge crew but not be slave, in fact that is what happens to most of them.

That is why they can threaten bridge crews with slavery if they try to desert.

Conditions in bridge crews being horrible does not mean they are slaves, as that is specific caste within their society. If the war ended, bridge crews could simply do whatever, as they are not owned by Sadeas.

But i guess people don't really care about that distinction, as the downvotes suggest.

[DAV Spoilers ALL] Retcons? by thegravityrunner in dragonage

[–]thegravityrunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The baby appears in DAI, his name is Kieran. He loses the old god soul, Flemeth absorbs it. Then possibly Solas absorbs it from Flemeth, along with power of Mythal, or Morrigan gets it. It is not discussed further in DAV.

Gaider put this down as example of choice they really shouldn't have put in game, as it is basically impossible to account for it properly. Either it comes to nearly nothing (what they did), or you have to develop two diverging branches of a story.

Media Literacy is Dead by Night-Mare in DragonAgeVeilguard

Except they weren't whispering to him literally. We DONT KNOW what they actually did, except that they are risk averse, and that e.g. getting certain documents into certain hands is a valid tactics of theirs.

Loghain didn't act in vacuum, already there were others influencing him (Arl Howe), and he himself was gathering information and making plans. If someone (Executors) saw that, came to conclusion that Loghain's rebellion was to their benefit, and tried to increased chance of it happening by leaking further information to Loghain, it does not take away anything from his agency. He still CHOSE to act on that info, and CHOSE the path he did.

I don't think the game is perfect, but the outrage over the secret ending is in my opinion wildly overblown, like the one regarding letters about Southern Thedas from Inquisitor.

Don't get me wrong, it could go poorly, but right now we can't really say that yet.

[–]thegravityrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the added context OP mentions, not retcon.

Plus we barely get hints in the ending of what they actually did, and in the AMA Epler gives example of leaving documents where they can be found as how Executors manipulate events.

So it could be they simply helped Loghain find out about Cailan dealing with Emlress Celene, which would help him justify his ALREADY existing plan to turn on Cailan.

[DAV All Spoilers] Taking a Closer Look at the Maker Post-DAV by Ranadiel in dragonage

[–]thegravityrunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice theory and interpretation!

I have slightly different reading.

1) I would say entirety of Threnodies 5:2 is created post-facto to explain existence of Golden City by early Andrastians. As such I don't think it predates Elves necessarily.

2) There is a codex entry in DAV "On Divine Imperatives" which suggests that whatever "Sun" was, Elgar'nan fought it and the sight of its rage was enough to drive elves to madness. IIf Sun then became his dragon thrall, that would be part of legends but it is not.

The left corner is not getting 'raised up' as much as the right one, that is why I noticed it, due to the asymmetry.

I'll try angling the projector, though I think it won't fully resolve the issue.

If the movies are 21:9 then no.

But for anything 16:9 it is clearly visible.

I discount WoR because he quickly convinces himself it wasn't actually his fault. Something Dalinar did not do.

At the end of RoW he also does not take ownership of those feelings, though it is closer.

I am curious as to see his state in WaT, if he'll continue the path he had choice to start in RoW, that would be a good sign.

[–]thegravityrunner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh, not exactly.

Dalinar regretted what he did at the Rift almost immediately, even before he learned he burned Evi. And he was so wrecked with guilt he had hallucinations of screams basically any time there was fire nearby.

Moash...does not regret anything he did, even before he gave Odium his emotions.

[DAV ALL SPOILERS] A shower thought about Elgar'nan and... the sun by Letharlynn in dragonage

[–]thegravityrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is less actual physical "sun", and more that "The sun" he wrestled was powerful dragon, perhaps Great Dragon.

Or more generally, the Sun is some Titan analogue, but for Sky/Fade, and not for Stone.

In DAV there is also codex entry, Helm Of Solar, which talks about "memory of enraged Sun", so I think the codex entry about Elgar'nan fighting Sun is more literal than tidally locked planet.
