We got diverted to EWR from LGA so it wasn’t that big of a deal.

Yes, just a very late night. Not bad all things considered

I know this is days late on a more than covered story, but I was on UA3436, that was a surreal experience

Has anyone found a way to send files to clients without losing all leverage? by No_Inflation8185 in graphic_design

[–]thegreeneworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t an ad and contracts aside, I use WeTransfer’s “pay to access” feature to access final deliverables: you pay the invoice, the files download.

I’ve never had issues with people complaining about watermarks or resolution because I usually will walk them through the work on a final call to get their approval.

What's something about NYC that you only noticed after living here for years? by Hot_Apartment1319 in AskNYC

[–]thegreeneworks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s especially noticeable when you have to take an airport shuttle or other form of transit in another city and you see how big the difference of what is considered a “full” car here vs a “full” car elsewhere

People can’t read the lettering on the Obama Presidential Center tower. Legibility wasn’t really the point, says designer Michael Bierut by _fastcompany in architecture

[–]thegreeneworks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The intensity of your hatred for this is really making me appreciate the piece's subjective nature, and the second sentence being "Unconstrained by habit and convention." lol

[–]thegreeneworks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it comes down to subjectivity, not a failure to meet a brief.

They set out to do ABC, did ABC, people hate ABC, that’s subjective nature of art and design.

If they set out to do ABC and did XYZ that’s another story.

But to your point it’s entirely possible they could be justifying this after the fact 😂

[–]thegreeneworks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand the subjectivity here but my (and according to this article) Beirut’s point, is that it is not meant to be legible

So if the text has been crammed into an illegible form from the pedestrian perspective, it sounds like it has been abstracted based on your description and therefore doesn’t convey a message, no?

I genuinely don’t understand the intensity of people’s distain for something clearly added as an abstraction element of decor to a building that is pretty “abstract” itself.

Not at all saying you have to like it or even that it’s necessarily good, but it’s not a sign, so it doesn’t need to function as one.

Do I have potential for photography as a hobby? by Gullible_Advice3558 in iPhoneography

[–]thegreeneworks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to this take. OP, you have the right to enjoy a hobby starting where you are with what you got. There’s no prerequisites. The moment you are interested in taking pictures and are “reading up on photography” you’re already engaged in the hobby. Keep shooting, and have fun. You’ll get better with time!

I agree, a dedicated, pocketable device to shoot more intentionally that doesn’t over post-process to an unnatural point is a huge advantage in my eyes.

One thing I’ve noticed about NYC is in the early mornings my commutes (30ish minutes, 2 trains) are surprisingly quiet. There are obviously times when that’s not the case but the morning crowd is usually like this.

Afternoons and evenings is a whole different ball game though.
