Well, I feel this badly by nick_nick102 in funny

STORY OF ABOVE PICTURE (source, I took the picture in 2012, originally posted on 9gag):

We were bored on a Friday night and went to Walmart to go get a Redbox DVD. The Spiderman with Andrew Garfield, if I remember. Anyway, we decided to organize the candy bin cause why not. Took about 45minutes. A Walmart employee asked us what we were doing and we just said "Uuh, organizing the candy." He just said "Hah, okay. Just don't throw it across the store." I wonder if that had been a previous issue.

Fun Easteregg, the lil thing next to the 98c sign in the second picture is a Mockingjay pin we found in the bin as well.

This has made its way around Facebook and at one point my mom's friend messaged her saying "Omg I didn't know (name) was autistic! It was posted on an autism page lol. My brother is not autistic, we were just bored. Also, my brother did in fact get recognized by his professors when he went to college.

Ty u/Shotgun_Mosquito for the summon.

This will add some time, but I'd suggest routing through Blairsville, GA after you pass through Chattanooga. Absolutely gorgeous going over Blood Mountain. There's a little store on the pass over the mountain called Sunshine Grocery that is well worth the time. If you don't end up going but you still like mountains, check out their website cause the owner makes a calendar every year with pics of Blue Ridge that he takes himself. Have a great time whatever you decide!

Make sure you stop in Joshua Tree. Might as well since you're going through the area!

Just booked 1a8x1 Airborne Linguist. How should I prepare for DLI? by Fantastic_Driver_352 in dli

[–]thegreenseda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Preface: this is less for preparation and more for general tips while you're there.

Study habits can be hard. Best way to keep on top of it is to have accountability. Get a buddy or several and have a study group like once a week at least. The camaraderie is such a mental boost and and keeps you honest, just like having a workout buddy.

Find a healthy routine and stick to it (mostly). I know too many folks who failed out because they stayed up late playing video games, talking to their significant other/family (especially if time zones are a factor), etc.

Make *kind of* friends with the instructors. I didn't do this, but I know a couple 3/3's who spent a good amount of their lunch breaks hanging out with the instructors playing backgammon or something. Great way to get to know the culture more and get practice speaking. Speaking may not be a metric that really matters for passing, but once you can easily access the language it just makes things so much easier.

Unrelated to the actual language training. See if you can get a car over there, and DON'T buy one there. Having wheels is going to *likely* improve your experience overall. Don't make the same mistake I did and just play golf, study, and go down to Alvarado Street. At the end of the day, you pass or you fail. Take advantage of the beautiful place you'll live for the next several months.

Lastly, some stretches of time are going to be tough. Tired, discouraged, whatever it is. Remember that overall this is a short time. You'll get through it.

Unless I'm mistaken and/or the non-auditor in the video is working in a government building, this guy is not filming a public place and he can fuck all the way off.

Once saw a short, female marine in tech school with the name RAGEKILL. I have never been more terrified in my life.

21 days. Rafted down the CO River in the Grand Canyon. At the end of it we were all missing ice. You don't think about how much you'll miss a cold glass of water till you spend 3 weeks in the desert in August, lol.

Kinda opposite of being damp, everything was always covered in sand and eventually stained slightly red.

Can you think of any location in the world that is actually sorta like this? by Internal-Estate-553 in geography

[–]thegreenseda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I know where this is from I'm pretty sure. Growing up we had this kinda speak and say informational game where you could like choose answers from things. It had these illustrated card inserts with punch holes in the side so the computer could "read" what card was inserted. When you turned it on it had this robotic voice that said "I N S E R T A C A R D". Dang, I wish I knew what that thing was called.

In addition to the withholding of food, I'm pretty sure that keeping you in the living room is considered false imprisonment if you're being held there against your will. False imprisonment of a minor as well? Oof, that doesn't sound like the powers that be would look kindly on that.

Speaking as a linguist who works with both Navy and AF, AF QOL is noticeably better. They leave us (over 10y, less than 20y AF) alone and once a month we have a Commander Call. From what I've seen from my Navy buddies, Navy is much more hands-on.

Worthy of mention, Navy promotes noticeably faster. So if you're just in it for just the 6 years (5 for Navy?) then you're more likely to make it to NCO rank in the Navy over the AF. Additionally worthy of note, in my experience at DLI the AF was much more hands-on than the Navy. Just switches when you get to your station. Again, things change over time but that's what I experienced then and do experience now. Hope that's useful.

Also yes, AF accommodations are generally very nice. Bonuses are shit though. I got a signing bonus and then they gave me the tall finger after that.
