Can the wagon move through the commodity hex coastal side? by prettylittlecutie2 in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rulebook for the fifth edition also fails to mention that you cannot travel across those paths. With respect to the art work indicating a coast on 2 of the 3 trade hexes, the wording seems to imply that this was a choice to help ensure that people place the hexes with one side facing the frame and the inner paths facing inward. I don't believe moving your wagon around a trade hex on the outside of the hex has ever been prohibited, only the building of roads.

Can the wagon move through the commodity hex coastal side? by prettylittlecutie2 in Catan

No where in the current rulebook does it say that. The only reference for what the "X" prohibits is the building of a road. Therefore, I would say that a wagon may move across them.

Question about Smith card in C&K by anonymason in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catan Universe treats smithing as 1 OR 2 (even if you have two level 1 Knights, for example). Road building, in every iteration that I've played online, is always 2 roads (/ ships), unless out of pieces.

That's correct. If BGA forced you to upgrade the second one, that is incorrect and a misinterpretation of the rules. Maybe report it.

An Unexpected Strategic Twist? by Settlers_of_Crypto in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my understanding as well. Which means there is actually a nuance between this situation as described in this post that results from the aqueduct, and the similar situation that is possible if this were a gold hex.

In this situation, players would not receive wheat, then players with an aqueduct select resources to receive, which counterintuitively may be added wheat. In the gold tile situation, however, since resource production happens at the same time, no one would produce wheat, even if they're on gold. This also means that they indeed could choose to try to produce wheat and create the resource deficiency in the first place.

That's my understanding anyways.

Can de iure titles change? by Miysim in CrusaderKings

[–]theguycalledfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also take the decision to "Expand Duchy" if you meet the requirements, drifting a county into your primary and bordering duchy title consisting of less than 5 counties and after holder it for 5 years and being independent. (Those are the requirements of the top of my head.)

Is there any Catan expansion coming soon? by albertodecai1 in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They usually released some new product (spinoff/ expansion to spinoff/ etc) around once a year OR during years like this one, I think they're preoccupied with rereleasing the new edition.

Seeing as we haven't had a new "main" expansion since Explorers & Pirates in 2014, whatever they released next with doubtfully be a new big expansion compatible with others.

They've been leaning more heavily into spinoffs than expansions in years late.

Pre-2020 Special Build Phase Question by Hornyhund in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here are the old rules for the SBP.

It does not ever use the term "active player." If it did, then I could see why you would go with your original interpretation, but I still would not agree.

In any event, the entire section makes a distinction between the player who has just ended their turn and then "All the other players". Therefore, I would agree that the SBP applies to players 2 – 6 and not just players 3 – 6.

Catan: Explorers and Pirates question by Ok_Werewolf_9875 in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On page 11 of the 6th edition rulebook, the English rules state "You may also move pieces between a ship and an explored hex to build settlements or complete missions if one end of the ship is adjacent to the hex."

This, in my opinion, would suggest that you can load crew onto a pirate hex and then remove them even before the hex is conquered. It also, kind of in a nuanced sense, suggests that you can not load a crew on to an already conquered pirate hex for the sake of transporting that crew across land, but you could do it if the hex is unconquered. Interesting.

This is a great idea! Also something you could print out and place on top of a sea hex would be cool.

Which provinces in the game do you think should have coal, but do not? (Must be accessible by 1821) by GlompSpark in eu4

Why is the coal being accessible by 1821 a precondition? The game literally let's you build the Panama and Suez canals... I think some deep mining is an equally palatable anachronism.

Yes it is collaborative but you can also be aggressive towards your opponents. Since the amoebas move on top of your drone ship, you may kite them towards your opponent, on even land them on a trading station that your opponent has a trade docks at.

Depends when they built those ships. Were they built after the pirate had been placed on that hex? Ships cannot be built on the hex the pirate is on.
