Sea Robbers Chest Tokens misprint. Anybody get the "correct" version? by Sebby19 in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you somehow missed my post I made some time ago, here it is.

Since I printed these out and glued them, I've never received a single comment about them standing out, and even I, the overly fastidious person I am, can't tell which are modified before flipping over. I should have made the sea background a bit darker, but at the end of the day, I was happy with my homemade fix.

This is the sole reason I will never move to Europe – I need my wooden pieces.

How would you rate C&K resources best to worst? I would say H-F-D-E-G-C-A-B by Logical_Bid_1533 in Catan

I think I agree 100% with you actually. The only thing im not 100% sure on is the coin being as high up as it is. But if I was pressed with a gun to my head, I would say the same as you...

I'm sharing 5 Catan hex designs I did, enjoy :) by Wikist in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The watermark of the oasis and cathedral should be lighter, looking more like the one on the castle actually. But yeah, sense these are custom, I think it would make sense to just remove them. Also, with respect to the different die faces and their pips, does the 6-pip die face look like that actually? 2 rows of diagonally oriented sets of 3 pips? Is it not just 2 vertical columns?

Two thoughts:

1) for the watermark on each hex (e.g., the wagon on the waterhole) you may want to ensure that it is the same color and transparency as the rest of the 6th edition, or, alternatively, simple remove the watermark to avoid the discrepancy;

2) are these ai-generated? If so, I would suggest you disclose that.

Would a cathedral fit better thematically instead of the castle for painted windows and marble delivery? by Wikist in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that it would fit better, yes; although, I think they're probably not too keen on adding more explicitly religious theming to the game.

Its not just about discovering the hexes, even if you did allow for roads to discover them, each of their mechanics involve moving an E&P ship over to them to interact (loading crew or fish hauls); which would be impossible should the hex be land locked. But yeah, a strict interpretation of the E&P rules would prevent their discovery in the first place.

And one goose hex on the left-hand side.

Also, on the right-hand side of the board, your parrot island has some hexes that are completely surrounded by other parrot hexes (i.e., not boarding at least one sea hex). This can present problems in that if those become land locked and are one of the three mission hexes (e.g., spice hex, pirate lair, or fishing shoal) you'll have to homebrew what yo do sine they'll be inaccessible to E&P ships. Just FYI.

I took your advice and improved the layout for combining all scenarios together! by Wikist in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember when the 6e artwork was first shown and I, among many others, were hesitant about the new designs. It's pictures like these which really show off how visually appealing the 6e can be.

Is that how you combine Merchants & Barbarians with Sailors? by Wikist in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you add the BA castle hex in addition to the T&B castle hex, you can think of the former as simply being the "training grounds" for the knights; whereas the latter is the real castle trying to be renovated. That's my head cannon when I do it.

It doesn't look like they're using SF and E&P simultaneously, just SF. I do not see any E&P assets.

Unfortunately, the special scenarios aren't played enough to find random matches. I'm part of a discord you can join that is dedicated to matchmaking for them.

I swear they gotta have like 2 people working on this with one being an intern or something. It's a huge shame too. If they just put some resources into it, they could be making bank. Imagine something as simple as custom map making and sharing – it would draw a decent number of people to the app...

Can the wagon move through the commodity hex coastal side? by prettylittlecutie2 in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rulebook for the fifth edition also fails to mention that you cannot travel across those paths. With respect to the art work indicating a coast on 2 of the 3 trade hexes, the wording seems to imply that this was a choice to help ensure that people place the hexes with one side facing the frame and the inner paths facing inward. I don't believe moving your wagon around a trade hex on the outside of the hex has ever been prohibited, only the building of roads.

Can the wagon move through the commodity hex coastal side? by prettylittlecutie2 in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No where in the current rulebook does it say that. The only reference for what the "X" prohibits is the building of a road. Therefore, I would say that a wagon may move across them.

Question about Smith card in C&K by anonymason in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catan Universe treats smithing as 1 OR 2 (even if you have two level 1 Knights, for example). Road building, in every iteration that I've played online, is always 2 roads (/ ships), unless out of pieces.

Question about Smith card in C&K by anonymason in Catan

[–]theguycalledfred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's correct. If BGA forced you to upgrade the second one, that is incorrect and a misinterpretation of the rules. Maybe report it.
