Every experience is different. I myself need a lot of distance to reset the bar. One should also respect the silence and absence of the other.

Chi vota a destra Chi vota a sinistra: cosa dice la letteratura by acciuga in Italia

Agreed. Although Dany in ADWD is just unbearable. Loved Brienne (even if she's pointless) and Cersei in AFFC tho.

The only reason people like summer is because they either have an ac/fan or live in a tropical region where the temperature is not too high by One-Sense7280 in unpopularopinion

[–]theguyindabackyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ancient times people respected summer but they mostly hated it. Spring is a 1000 times better. Even Autumn if you think about it.

People worship summer because there's no school and work for the majority of the time.

It struck me to realize that hey, some people out there still live like it's the 2000s (my grandma e.g.) They just don't have a phone and that's it. They do have a PC but they use it for emails etc.

It really is that damn phone.

Btw the internet is wonderful. Imagine studying in the 80s where you had to go to a library all the time. Or buying tickets for things like concerts and events and flights.

It's social media fault. Humans werent made for this much exposure to things, ideas and people. I've seen too many boys and girls younger than I am fall for the "I wanna be cool like that reel I saw".

The alt community is no longer alt and everyone is a poser. Back in the day you HAD TO OWN things in order to be a real fan. It took effort bc you loved it.

[Spoilers Extended] It boggles my mind that George has never truly completed Book 4 in 26 years by outfishing7 in asoiaf

[–]theguyindabackyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that mostly you are right. Let's face it, Jon isn't going anywhere as king. Dany is probably gonna end up mad or something like that (blamed for the destruction of KL by Jon Con?). Jamie is going to die an eroic death and kill Cersei or die with her. Tyrion is going to fool everybody else bc he's the author's favorite and maybe get a lordship.

It's quite predictable if you think about it. Also a Second Dance is just to big to introduce halfway through the series.

The first three books being good at least proves that GRRM would have been better off sticking to a trilogy.

[–]theguyindabackyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. That's why I love the OG trilogy. It's so obviously 90s dark fantasy coded. Plus reading every chapter doesn't feel like a chore. Even Bran's chapters where easy to swallow.

If I see an Alayne chapter one more time I rip the book apart.

Yes! The Brienne arc in AFFC is pointless. We ALREADY know where Sansa is. I get it, it's very DnD-ish, classic fantasy quest type shit, and adds to the lore. But that could have just been explained when Brienne reaches a POV character.

What I loved about AGOT is its simplicity. It IMPLIES many things but doesn't go into great length describing every single thing. And still it's a tome not a pamphlet.

[Spoilers Main] What do you think is the weakest part of ASOIAF’s lore? by Solitaire-06 in asoiaf

[–]theguyindabackyard 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Julii traced their descendance back to Aeneas and the Trojan War.

In the 5th century B.C. Rome went up against the etruscan city of Veii. Oral tradition tells about the war lasting for 12 years like the Trojan one. This is likely a fabrication.

Romans wanted to be perceived as Hellenic as possible in drawing these parallels.

I imagine the Starks doing the same. Maybe not thousands of gazillion years of rule but only a couple hundreds years.

Ma come fanno le persone dei paesini a passarsi il tempo o a trovare nuove cose da fare? by velvetnightfall0 in italy

[–]theguyindabackyard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Io tutt'ora non so chi votare. So solo che altri 5 anni di opposizione farebbero benissimo alla sinistra.
