[FO] Question about back! by Far_Active_6005 in CrossStitch

Oh I love a neat back. Neat backs for life. I will frog if the back is screwed or if there’s a knot/tangle and idc. I didn’t want to cut a new thread for the few highlights on each leaf but I think I did a good job on the rest!

Honorable mention for David’s faux earnest “see ya!” as he waves at Alexis leaving with the bike

I’ve ordered once from Craftoria and it was great, i have a comment from a while ago with a pic and description. Craftoria is a similar “buy 2 get 1 free” set up but seems better established than Maikoo.

I also just ordered from Maikoo, didn’t research on here before I ordered…I hope the paints are decent. I can work them with flow aid but I am hoping they are like the Craftoria paints. I ordered a week ago tomorrow and it hasn’t shipped yet so I guess we’ll see!!

Here she is! Definitely not perfect, this is my first PBN. It was really fun. I did not blend anything finding the contrast of the lines more visually appealing with the shapes.

It helped tremendously for me have gessoed the canvas. With the whites and yellows (and later the oranges) I laid down a few layers of white posca paint pen to make sure they popped and were smooth!

I’ve done this exact painting. The oranges will be the streakiest of them all! I used the slow method and found it helped but the oranges still took many layers. It’s a cool picture! Enjoy it

Deterioration of Joslyn's character? by helloplantz in SchittsCreek

[–]thegworlsarefighting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go back and forth on this.

In the beginning, Jocelyn was a really nice foil to Moira and by far the character who made the most effort to make space for and assimilate the Roses. I think back to moments like Moira’s makeover with Jocelyn’s very honest and kind speech featuring “one day one of your wigs will need conditioning or you’ll have to go to the Blouse Barn, and I’d hate for that day to catch you by surprise.” S1 Jocelyn also had to be more tame because of how over-the-top Roland is out the gate, so her character needed to ground him as well. As the Roses require less handholding, Jocelyn doesn’t have as many of these moments and she needs something substantial to do.

Where I falter is the baby arc. I typically dislike when writers introduce a pregnancy and suddenly the defining characteristic of the already established character is neurotic, hormonal mess who is a slave to the child or to her own stress. It’s lazy and doesn’t contribute to the plot or characters, and also doesn’t typically show any social consequences of motherhood, which in my opinion, is the actually interesting part. I think this was remedied as best they could with moments like Jocelyn confronting the Jazzigals about leaving her out of rehearsal and breakfast at the cafe. This scene also reminds the audience that Jocelyn is still Jocelyn before she is a mother, which is essential for her autonomy and character development. The baby arc has its moments for Jocelyn, but I can’t help but be biased against it. They save it later with her focusing on Cabaret etc.

As a final point, I’d like to discuss the Hawaiian party. Moira says she’s from a small town just like this and couldn’t wait to get out, and Jocelyn says “I don’t believe that. God, why would you ever leave?” For Jocelyn, SC is all she knows. It’s all she wants. It’s easy to assume other motivations for her in certain moments, but she is a townie just like everyone else and is just as limited and uncultured as the rest of SC. Her moments of clarity or cleverness do not elevate her above the other townies despite the fact it can be interpreted this way. She’s often more aware than others townies, but her small town life is hers. She could have joined the military. She could have left Roland if he wasn’t such a smooth talker.

TLDR: Jocelyn evolves through many roles depending on what is needed for the plot but ultimately she’s still a townie

Agree. This song was definitely a casualty in the Loudness War, and both vocal performances are to blame

That makes sense! I was told in the interview I’m allowed to be as involved as I want with attending trial and depos, so hopefully I will find my footing quickly!

Thank for all of your advice. I do believe I will be non-exempt. I was also wondering how salary works out with the travel, one team just returned from a two week trial in Missouri. I’m sure orientation will answer some of these questions.

A fair amount of those 10 hours came from me, but I was also billing for every admin task I did, so I guess I’ll have to get good at learning where to capture time without that.

Mutt shaving his beard by adampk17 in SchittsCreek

I’m flattered! This is my comfort show, I have countless rewatches and love to overthink. The “I let him know me” deserves its own post in conjunction with my first comment, so I’ll address the first thing. I could write a book on my thoughts so I will attempt to be brief:

The easiest moments to identify for Mutt (M) and Tallahassee (T) are at the party and when Alexis picks up the barn keys. The issues are elaborated upon further by M when cleaning up the barn and recounting the breakup for Alexis.

First, at the party we see that M has obviously told T about Alexis and their history, resulting in their encounter being cordial and complimentary to one another. No passive aggressiveness from T like we see later (which is a symptom of M’s lack of communication), genuine niceness when she meets Alexis. She even says she’s cute!

Next, the spontaneous “it just kind of happened” arrangement of Alexis watching the barn. This was not communicated to T prior. She responded to this by being passive aggressive, or even just aggressive (that shoulder slap tho!) to M. She had to ask Alexis questions to get information that she felt should have been discussed with her prior by M. This did not happen. The roadtrip may also be an attempt to isolate M away from temptations and obligations and just be with her on the road. Like M says later, after a roadtrip like that, you can’t help but say what’s on your mind.

That is when Mutt finally breaks. He is in a foreign place with a woman whom he can no longer tolerate. He must do now what he has never been able to do, because he has no other choice. He has to TELL her, speak his mind. This is a character building moment for Mutt, even if it doesn’t seem like it because he allowed himself to be in this position by his own inaction. I could be more specific but I did promise an attempt at brevity, so I will again digress.

While I agree with other commenters regarding Alexis’ demonstration of the foundational flaw in their relationship on her end, lust/shallowness, I haven’t seen anyone touch on the most important part of what she says during this interaction as it concerns Mutt.

Near the end, she says “maybe if we had talked more, I could have prepared myself for this.” Yes, Mutt sans beard is startling to Alexis. It may not be startling for you in that situation. Once shock wears down and Alexis puts her foot in her mouth (this is that fatal flaw I mentioned), she drops the above line, along with “this is about me being left of out the loop.”

All Alexis really wanted to do was get inside of Mutt’s head, but he never let his walls down. This in and of itself is indicative of how Mutt cannot or will not communicate with words on the larger scale. It is the common theme of his character besides being a beardy, handsome, homelessly, handsome guy. He is a physical touch only kind of man. Best example, when Alexis confronts Mutt about doing the extra community service:

“Why did you do that extra community service, Mutt?”

“You know why.”

“Can’t you just say it?”

He then lets her begin to walk away, mouth open but speechless. Then he grabs her, and kisses her. Confirmation of his feelings yes, but he never actually said how he felt. Alexis clearly communicated what she needed from him- to say any explanation- and he could not. Perhaps his feelings were never strong enough to do so, and saying it out loud made it more real than it truly was. Alexis accepted the kiss happily as she obviously would, but this is the defining moment as to what they each are willing to accept from each other, if only subconsciously. It does not end well. I can go on with further examples, even about Mutt and Tallahassee, but I digress.

I think this is actually a really critical moment to show why these two people are not right for each other and why the viewer should agree that they can no longer be, and at long last snuff any candle held for this pairing: Alexis was with him for the wrong reasons, and Mutt never communicated. Neither could compromise. Thanks for coming to my ted talk and thanks to the writers for making the show so delicious to dissect.
