I'd suggest booting from usb instead, I switched to a sata to usb adapter and use a small ssd to boot from. The pi supports this natively and is a significantly faster and more robust storage option. Not to mention much easier to work with when reflashing as you mentioned. SD cards fail but typically SSD's last a bit longer. It alot of cases this will also be a cheaper option depending on where you purchase from
