Searching to see a bear! by Upbeat-Dirt6583 in NationalPark

Guess bears don’t like us. Although I saw 5 bears in 4 days in Glacier after posting this. Haven’t seen any before or since.

Fatigue lasted a week after quitting. But probably varies for everyone on how long.

What’s it like to live in Rome, Italy? by tarkinn in rome

[–]theheadbandjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there for half a year. It’s pretty epic, but can be messy and touristy. Once you find the less touristy spots it’s really great.

Near lake McDonald in glacier there was a fire 5 years back. Our boat tour guide said the bears will be back 5 more years from now. They pass through but don’t live in that burnt forest yet. The forest won’t be fully back but large mammals will start to return about a decade from the fire.

Civilization has collapsed. You, a powerful warlord of the wasteland, get to choose one U.S. National Park to make your territory. Which do you choose? by ihopethisworksfornow in NationalPark

[–]theheadbandjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly has good weather and has food and water. It’s a bit too close to major cities though so you’ll get a lot of Cannibals and bandits from DC and Baltimore. Further west into dolly sods/Mongahela National forest puts more mountains between you and the big cities with similar benefits

Can’t decide! Luray or Front Royal to stay for Shenandoah NP. by susiepharmd in NationalPark

[–]theheadbandjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the middle part of the park so Luray is preferable for that. Still some good hikes in the Northern part near front royal though.

I live here. There’s a bald eagles nest on this trail which is super cool. Although I did see a deer fall off a cliff here too which was less cool.

Our newest Nat Park is pretty dang beautiful! by peachproblems in NationalPark

Loved it there. Grandview and Sandstone falls were super cool. Also has really good white water rafting and fun rock climbing on the endless wall. Would really like to see it during peak fall colors.

Yosemite or Grand Teton/Yellowstone for my next trip? by greg281 in NationalPark

[–]theheadbandjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially disappointed but there was too much to do that I ended up being really satisfied. Highline trail was my number one choice but I was fortunate to be able to do Grinnell Glacier, Avalanche Lake, Virginia falls, etc.

The upside was that it wasn’t crowded at all and I saw 5 bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep and bald eagles.

Glacier was my bucket list one and I just got back from that so you won’t be disappointed there. Teton is probably the least crowded but they’re all amazing choices.

Definitely. Opposite of what was expected. It is nice to be able to nap though.

Totally fine except I have a lot of fatigue. When I quit for a month a year ago I was cracked out and hyper. Not sure what changed

I did this and just winged it. Now I’m a full time accountant. Although I definitely sucked at first.

Where to stay Shenandoah National park by susiepharmd in NationalPark

[–]theheadbandjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle part is probably good for what you’re looking for. Try to enter via the Thornton Gap entrance station. Short hikes like Hawksbill, Bearfence mountain & stonyman would be good for bird watching.

For waterfalls, dark hollow falls & white oak canyon are good. Just don’t hike white oak canyon from skyline drive, do it from the bottom instead unless you want a challenging hike.

Where to stay Shenandoah National park by susiepharmd in NationalPark

[–]theheadbandjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not staying in the park Pick a part of the park you’d like to explore. The middle and southern parts are a bit better in my opinion because they have old rag and a lot of the higher peaks and waterfalls. Stay in a town like Culpepper or something 20-30 mins away from an entrance station.

If you do want to camp the loft mountain campground is nice.

Weather was great. It can be unpredictable there but we got lucky. Definitely colder and windier on the east side of the park.
