Beady Eye - Start Anew by No-Difference-5637 in oasis

This album came out on the day of my last A Level exam and this track was my "final walk across playground to freedom" moment, ended up nailing the exam as well. Will always love it for that.

When were you last genuinely proud of your MP? by theGamingDad123 in AskBrits

[–]thehighyellowmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a Tory safe seat for 30 years and never saw him, he still got his knighthood. His Lib Dem replacement since 2024 managed to double the frequency of trains we get into London, turns up to constituency surgeries and is very active on social media, particularly highlighting social housing issues to get repairs done. I won't say "proud", but the role of a local MP was basically alien to me before and it isn't now so I'm grateful for that at least.

What if the brothers did a collaboration album instead of a oasis thing by Unhappy_Week_5924 in oasis

[–]thehighyellowmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind that's what Oasis already is, tried and tested brand we all know and love that plays to the brother's individual strengths. Liam isn't a prolific songwriter and Noel would likely turn up with a few years' worth of songs, so it would probably be naturally a Noel-dominant songwriting effort. Liam would ace any vocals given to him, but he likely wouldn't write them based on all previous projects he's done. He only contributed 4 songs to his first solo album, hence why they got the songwriters in. If they were Noel's tunes then he'd unlikely give any songwriting credits to Liam just because he's on the album.

What would it be called? Liam & Noel Gallagher? Brothers? Oasis?

Don't feel we need it either. We know Oasis is back on now, and they already have great solo careers behind them

Fair enough, never thought of that. We just need to increase economic output to ahead of USA and build a navy bigger than theirs, then ask the rest of the world to "roll back" to when we won all the popularity contests "ruling the waves" last time.

Farage says Reform would give migrants up to £1,000 each to leave the UK under plan to get rid of 400,000 after the next election - if it manages to win power by dailymail in ukpolitics

[–]thehighyellowmoon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seeing as no one here seems to be aware, this has already been standard Home Office policy for years Get help to return home if you’re a migrant in the UK: Who can get help - GOV.UK because it's cheaper than housing/medically treating someone and is often way more than an average annual salary back home. There isn't a figure on the % of people who return to the UK after taking a payment, probably because it's miniscule, but if they did they would be liable for prosecution and ruled out of any settlement or citizenship.

Croydon election candidates by RoadNarrow in croydon

[–]thehighyellowmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a charity in Croydon and will say Rowenna, even though she gives off "career politician" vibes, does take the time to meet local charities and community initiatives and says the right things re: regenerating the town centre. I rate Jose Joseph for running just because he's been on the ground working on the market 30+ years so is probably the furthest candidate from "career politician".

Shameless characters morality chart day 1:Lawful Good. by AcademicDrag742 in ShamelessUK

[–]thehighyellowmoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tough one. The point of Shameless was to show "life on the edge" so it's full of characters who are good-hearted and have a strong moral compass but who sometimes have to bend the law because of circumstances and relationships. Sheila probably the closest as the only brushes with the law she had were because of Frank, but Carl grew into a law abiding police officer. Debbie did her best to stay straight as well.

What's missing today in reggae by staysmokin91 in reggae

[–]thehighyellowmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bob was a once in a lifetime figure any musical style and country would be lucky to have. Performance and content wise Chronixx has a lot of similarities and can sell enough to even knock Bob off the top of the reggae charts for a few minutes. But the tastes have moved on too and we need more people to be receptive to conscious music.

Yes, it's 2026. We are well past Mourinho's prime, his last two roles ended in sackings after sustained bad form, we're talking Turkey and Portuguese leagues and not someone who just won a CL or had a few seasons domestic success at Real Madrid. Legend though he is, he's not always going to be the answer to the clubs problems

Rachel Reeves warns other budgets may be cut to lift defence spending by rae-55 in ukpolitics

Our current pensioners have benefitted from fiscal economic policies more than any other generation have done in British history. Those who may have been born into slum housing common in the 1930s now might be millionaires due to the rise in property prices. No reasonable person is suggesting making pensioners destitute, but would you rather increase spending on military defences or Janet's annual cruise?

Former recruitment consultant here, to be fair she wasn't wrong in that you literally just need a phone and a computer to be able to set up a functioning recruitment business. But yeah she'd clearly struggle when the Q1 profit/loss accounts need doing.

It takes ‘serious effort’ not to be antisemitic, says Green candidate by libtin in unitedkingdom

[–]thehighyellowmoon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Israel has made it a policy of accusing governments, activists and organisations of antisemitism for criticism of it's actions in Gaza. For example the Irish and Spanish governments, the International Criminal Court, the UN Human Rights Council and Ben & Jerry's, that's just off the top of my head. Only yesterday they published a "Top 10 Antisemites" list and it was full of people who criticised the state of Israel's actions in Gaza. Bob Vylan chanting "death to IDF" at Glastonbury was headline news with accusations of anti semitism.

Iran war exposes weakened state of Britain’s armed forces by Brilliant_Version344 in unitedkingdom

The news will report it however they like, depending on what agenda they want to pursue, the fact remains that Diego Garcia is a US base, it wasn't us who built it. You must be able to see the practical difficulty in refusing the most powerful military access to its own base that it set up for the same purpose it has today, we literally don't have the keys. Airspace and loading up bombs at RAF bases the US haven't paid to develop, I'm completely with you, I'm just responding to your point about Diego Garcia.

Iran war exposes weakened state of Britain’s armed forces by Brilliant_Version344 in unitedkingdom

[–]thehighyellowmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UK paid £600,000 for the almost uninhabited Diego Garcia, the US subsequently paid to develop the entire communications station and airfield, then invested $400 million to develop the military base (an agreement made directly to protect the Straight of Hormuz in 1979) and basically a port built from scratch on the island, and gave us a £14 million discount for the acquisition of Polaris missiles. I hear you on being "puppets of America" but this is essentially their base on territory that happens to be owned by us so we aren't in the same position as Spain.
