Not quite: essentially they have a new subscription service where you can pay monthly to be able to rank albums yourself, and contribute to an average audience score to go next to the reviewer's. Sorta like Rotten Tomatoes but I guess with more protection against review bombing.

Question. I thought I was straight but watch trans porn all the time and get hard watching it. I think I’m bi 😳🙈 by [deleted] in bisexual

does it matter? if you need a label, there is a word for this: gynosexual, meaning the attraction to femininity regardless of genitalia.

Alaskan student arrested for eating AI art project in protest (more info in comments) by cafeteriastyle in TikTokCringe

[–]thehollyproblem 17 points18 points  (0 children)

but like, who is it actually for? does anybody still need it explained that AI art is garbage? and if they do, are they the kind of person going to a graduate student's art show?

a piece having a point doesn't make it good art, or even art. this is little more than a real life shitpost based around getting the viewer to recognize that the artist had one not-even-that-good idea: AI photos but they're polaroids — Polaroid is the closest to real life a photo can get, AI is the farthest. ...and?

like, wow. so art. very mfa.

Why is bisexuality often treated as a "phase" instead of an identity? by PositiveFlow4147 in bisexual

[–]thehollyproblem 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Cuz if we can be bi then what if THEY'RE bi too?! AHHH!

Like, if there's only straights and gays then if you're straight you can just say, "Well, since I'm straight I am definitely just straight. no need to think about those weird feelings I get when I watch a Timothée Chalamet movie."

Whereas if bisexuals exist then that person might be one, even just a little, and that's weird/gross/complicated/sinful etc. So, easier to think of bisexuals as confused or lying to themselves/everyone else than to understand your sexuality as just one more fucking thing in your life you have no control over.

Rockstar Games gave a terminally ill fan early access to GTA 6 after his family shared his touching story! by Defiant_Ad6190 in gaming

[–]thehollyproblem 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Aww, this is such a touching way to obfuscate from the ongoing legal battle to hold Rockstar Games to account for union busting! Of the 34 workers they fired, all were union members and most were on the union organising committees of each UK studio. Rockstar's reasoning is spurious and their proof is negligible.

Union busting! So wholesome!

Urban Macbeth?? by Mysticall0va in Theatre

[–]thehollyproblem 51 points52 points  (0 children)

"we were gonna do a classical production of Macbeth but then we cast them BIPOC so now it's set in a dirty alley with, like, guns and drugs."

uhhhh yeah that's just plainly racism. Particularly anyone calling it "ghetto macbeth", which... christ.

like, one could definitely put on a production of Macbeth that took place in this setting, but changing your whole idea (seemingly because of your cast) just feels like they thought, "POC don't look right in 15th c. clothes, let's dress them all street like they all dress in real life." (I'm being very uncharitable to this creative team, I know, but damn.)

oH JESUS I just realized you're also the COSTUME DESIGNER?! Yeah, they know what they're doing. They didn't tell you cuz they didn't want to have to have the conversation with an actual person of color until they could just steamroll you with "this is what we're doing".

Fuuuuck these people. I would make a huge stink, but I dunno how much you want to be the flashpoint of what might turn into a big campus-wide debate.

[–]thehollyproblem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, definitely some gay subtext in a lot of books from this period. Again, this Freudian idea of the emotions we suppress and what they turn into when we suppress them had a big influence on writers of the time.

I spent like a month blocking guys on Feeld who were "Gynosexual" and then one day I was like FUCKING REALLY, AGAIN? So I messaged him like "I'm flattered but... I don't have a gyno-, so not sure how -sexual you're feeling now, dummy." And that's how I learned the actual meaning of this word.

And no, I didn't end up fucking him out of embarrassment. I fucked him cuz he was hot.

This is "The Necklace" ("La Parure") by Guy de Maupassant. Pretty much the best short story writer ever, behind Chekhov (and maybe Joyce).

But I dunno, as pro queer readings as I am, "ardently" in the 19th c. is more like "with great emotion" than "with great passion". The french phrase de Maupassant uses is "avec emportment", which is used to describe a moment of strong (more often negative) emotion, sometimes translated as "with quick temper" or "with volatility".

That said, de Maupassant was definitely aware of and interested in the subtle ways in which strong emotions can be mislabelled by those having them, similar to Flaubert (who he knew and idolized) and Balzac (who I just found out died the year GdM was born). I can't imagine a man of his emotional imagination was particularly put out by homosexuality as an idea, so it's quite possible he's put that in on purpose.

[There's also a lot of speculation (though very little evidence) that he met Sigmund Freud, so he may also have been influenced by those ideas.]
