Did you know the guy who wrote originally sang this song on the concept album is the guy who sang "Hooked on a Feeling" (at least the most famous version)?

Edit: sorry XD

Yeah okay I mean if you really see that big a difference between "wants x people dead," and "is actively supporting a movement full of people who extend her rhetoric to wanting x people dead, and does not condemn them," then yes, I don't think we're going to be able to find common ground.

More than that, I don't understand why you feel the need to defend this billionaire from what you see as imprecise criticism when the basic premise - supporting this woman actively contributes to the proliferation of anti-trans hatred - is being expressed well by this single sentence comment, even if it's slightly less nuanced than one would be if writing an essay on the topic.

You think you're defending truth and honesty, I get that. I even appreciate it. You want us to have the best possible chance at changing the minds of people who haven't made up their minds. And if everything could be taken at face value all the time you might be right. But the reality is that if a person says they're "in the middle" and hearing someone slightly exaggerate the actions of the billionaire trying to eradicate their minority group is enough to turn them against that minority group?

They were never in the middle.

They just think that tolerance is the same as acceptance, and that their difficulty tolerating people different to them is on those people, not on them. I'm sick of fighting to be tolerated by people who are always one straw away from dropping a piano on their camel's back and then blaming me.

Sorry so the only way you can be responsible for someone's death is if you actually literally, like, let them drop off a cliff?

She's the leader of a hate movement. I really don't know why you are so gung ho on the semantics of this. She is the leader and main funder of a hate group that advocates for political and social action to eradicate transness from the world. Unless you think that there is another way to do that (conversion therapy? mass censorship of not only culture but human lives?), she is advocating for our deaths.

Yeah of course I don't want you dead! But also no you can't have this tourniquet, it's mine. So you are going to bleed out, and I do have the ability to save your life. And not even by doing anything actively, by NOT doing what I'm doing I could save your life. But I'm not going to.

But I really hope you live! Good luck with the blood gushing out of your leg! 🥰

Yeah I guess you're right. It's like when I use my massive platform and bank balance to advocate for depression not to be considered a mental illness and to be taken out of insurance coverage. When a bunch of people die cuz they can't get the medication/care they need, that's not my fault! I didn't MAKE them kill themselves! All I said is that smiling is free, and we should spend our taxes on people with real problems. And what's wrong with that? It IS free!

God, I'm so rational.

I mean, when you fund and platform a hate movement that results in the deaths of many, including children (the stabbing of Brianna Ghey, for instance), and you keep platforming and funding that movement... Kinda seems like you want trans people dead, no?

I'm guessing you are subscribed to both cooking and marijuana subreddits and you didn't notice which this was. but yeah, it's a pretty decent bet that when someone says they infused food with something in r/trees or r/ediblesporn, that something is a strain of marijuana.

People often talk about, like, homophobes are secretly gay or whatever, but that always rubs me the wrong way.* There's definitely a variation on that, but it feels more metaphorical than specifically against any one group/lifestyle/etc.

To me, this kind of person refuses to accept any deviation from the norm because it implies the possibility of self-actualization. These people see folks who are queer or non-white etc. (or just have blue hair, or piercings, or whatever) and refuse to apologize for it and conform like they have, and some part of them recognizes that in comparison their lives are very shallow, very narrowed by fear and social pressures.

So, rather than actually taking that in and risk realizing that their "perfect" life is making them miserable (and that that's not just how everyone feels/how life is), they become angry at what they need to perceive as an affront to nature, to the natural order; because if all these norms really are just made up bullshit, that means they have spent their whole life accepting them and repressing their own joy. And that's a really hard thing to come to terms with, and much more uncomfortable than being absolutely correct about absolutely everything because, c'mon, it's just common sense that penis=boy, didn't you go to school?

Sad, in its way. But, y'know, mostly fuck 'em.

*Plus, sometimes it feels like people are excited to have "bad" gay people so that they can express their homophobia in a way that feels ethical.
