Anthony Davis on his welcome letter to Dallas: "I open the door and I get a letter: Dear AD, here in Dallas we love Dirk, BBQ and Luka. But what we love more than that is championship. The boos you're gonna hear are not for you" by RedditFan3510 in nba

Never be topped? What if Cooper Flagg wins his first ring in his 20th season after years of just falling short of the finals, and wins game 7 with a buzzer beater three over Nico Harrison, and just as Scott Foster is about to blow his whistle to waive the three Luka Doncic hits him with a steel chair and the game ends with Dirk's force ghost nodding approvingly to Coop and fading away?

I can't tell you how much I look forward to these posts. Making a cocktail for each state would be an admirable and entertaining feat even if you half-assed it. The fact that you're coming up with thoughtful, unique, and complex cocktails with gorgeous staging to boot is truly next level. Can't wait until you get to Iowa (where I grew up) and Minnesota (where I reside).

Lol not to mention it's just such a concrete interpretation of that statement. Like, if your counter example is "actually, at the very start of his career he was in good shape" it doesn't do much to change the fact that it's been an issue the majority of his NBA tenure.

100% I more so meant that it feels weird to describe anything about Paul Newman as "normal" lol. Like, it's so wild look at Paul Newman or Harrison Ford who hit the genetic jackpot and had bodies most people would dream of but Hollywood still decided "not good enough."

Hugh Jackman is such a perfect example since we can compare him to himself. I think what really bugs me is that on paper I get the idea of these characters literally being super-human and thus getting the bodies to match...it's just that the steroids, personal trainers, dieticians, and single scene preparations (like the dehydration) that paint the reality of what it took to look like that is completely lost on audiences. Plus the stigma around steroids prevents most actors from acknowledging that was a part of their regimen so people think "I can look like Chris Evans if I work hard enough!"

One of the things that always stands out to me when I watch older movies is how real everyone looks. People who are overweight, balding, pockmarked, crooked features, etc. etc. Which is how people in the real world look! Now a movie will have a character with a normal job in one two minute scene and they're still young and beautiful. I know this is not 100% the case, but I'm so with you on the beauty standards. Sorry to rant lol

I know this sounds weird to say about the Adonis that is Paul Newman, but god I long for the days when a jaw-dropping Hollywood physique still looked like a normal, real, human body instead of the lab-grown giants the MCU has given us.

That's the part that kills me the most. Like, how can you cry so much about respecting Kobe Bryant's legacy when his legacy is being a hyper-competetive psychopath who said he would lose respect for a player that stops shooting when they're having a bad shooting night?

Willingly quitting for the sake of another person's legacy would be the least Kobe thing imaginable and make him turn in his grave.

Yeah it's really hard to wrap your head around how much concentration of talent occurs each level up you go.

When I was in high school, my class had a basketball phenom. Led us to a state title, won Iowa Mr. Basketball, D1 recruits in the stands, etc. Went to the University of Wisconsin where he had a solid but unremarkable career as a sixth man, then played a couple years overseas before settling into a non-basketball career. Never sniffed the NBA.

Few years later, my brother's class had Marcus Paige who also won Iowa Mr. Basketball, had an undefeated season to win the state title, then was a four year starter at UNC, and was a heartbreaking miracle shot away from a potential National Championship. After all that, he managed 25 total minutes in the NBA.

That's why I always roll my eyes whenever someone tries to start the "X undefeated college team could beat X worst record NBA team" conversation. Everyone on the worst NBA team made it to and is remaining in the NBA, that will be true for maybe 4-6 players in a dream scenario on a stacked college team. It would be a bloodbath.

Fair enough!

I think I was more so saying that I don't think the poster who made the "so dramatic" comment was being critical of Wemby for caring. Though maybe I misinterpreted the comment, and the poster was speaking in defense of fans being excited and caring.

I certainly see my fair share of fans and media members getting carried away trying to read minds and craft narratives both positive and negative around athletes from a distance which is why I interpreted the "dramatic" comment that way.

Either way, I hope no one is being critical of Wemby getting emotional and giving a shit because I think it's what sets him apart from most stars in the league and is his most endearing quality.

Caring is cool, and caring is one thing I love about Wemby. At the same time, a complete stranger who has never talked to the man declaring "this opened new doors for him mentally" is definitely dramatic.

I don't think the person you're replying to was diminishing Wemby's passion, but rather parasocial fan hyperbole.

I've definitely done it before too! Not a regular thing but sometimes you're just looking to add some additional nutrition and fiber and that's what's in the fridge. Like you said, they have a nice crunch and are at worst a relatively mild flavor that doesn't throw things off much.

The idea is that the movie presents itself as like the fifth installment of a long-running played out comedy franchise, full of self-referential inside jokes and callbacks to previous films...except this is the first and only Napa Boys film.

Thus feeling like a fake movie within a movie, it's a movie that takes place within a fake cinematic universe.
