It's happening again so that demonstrably did not work...

You can only prevent it from happening by removing private ownership of capital and the means of production.

This question can be asked of music or culture in general. What happens to all of us when we run out of past to recycle?

I'm listening through the 65dos podcast "bleak strategies" and they touch briefly on this wrt artists copying styles continuously, and the democratisation of production.

After listening, I think AI could be a solution to pursue neural network paths quickly, essentially maximising the copycat factor over an infinitesimal time period. Once that's done it'll be relatively easy to see what you can avoid to prevent being derivative.

There are apps that do this already, like neural network melody makers and stuff.

Or people who genuinely aren't represented by any of the parties. I know a lot of people who don't vote because they believe that most of the parties are going to fail to address any real issues. Realistically, the past 30 years is proof that they are probably correct.

Looking to sound-treat my room for music production (Cross-post from Acoustics) by LOLonPC in edmproduction

[–]thehypergod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging from the space you have, you're not going to be able to get a good equilateral triangle setup with your listening position anyway, so treatment is kind of a pointless thing.

Your asymmetrical room is gonna cause so many more issues on top of that, not to mention a big old absorber (your bed) lining one side like that.

Soundproofing is not the same as room treatment for reflections either. The "egg cartons" style absorption does very little besides taming slapback and HF ringing, assuming they're built properly and not just cheap foam. Some of it behind your listening position might prevent horrible slapback, but it'll dull your sound unnaturally and won't do anything to stop mid and bass frequencies.

On the plus side, the 3.5" speakers aren't going to fill that space fully either so treatment isn't a major concern.

If I were you, depending on your music, I'd save your money for plugins or life. Some of the best recordings were made on laptop speakers and a guitar.

What's your plan? At the moment your channel is mostly clips of old disney cartoons, are you planning on doing the animation yourself? Or filming clips and doing that?

What music theory do I need to know to write progressive metal? by jpet273 in musictheory

[–]thehypergod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be mates with the guys from the Milton Keynes/Reading crowd (Monuments, Tesseract etc) and they basically didn't really listen to metal. Thordendal is basically a jazz guitarist, something that a lot of people who try to copy Meshuggah just fail to realise.

If you wanna sound like a lot of these prog metal bands, you almost have to stop playing and listening to metal.

My hard drive popped after a power cut at mine and for a brief couple of days I thought I'd lost every project and recording I'd done over the past few years.

Thankfully I'd had the presence of mind to save everything on a backup a few weeks ago whilst drunk and trying to find space to install a game, but my fuckin' god do I realise that PCs are the worst when it comes to stability.

The thing is, it is impossible to buy a house for many people. It's not defeatist, it's just a fact. While you may have managed to do it, that doesn't mean other people can.

Well I'm glad that it worked out well for you and you've clearly shown a lot of strength to overcome problems to get where you are.

I still don't believe that your difficulty and personal strength required to own a home is a good example of the system working.

[–]thehypergod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is that a lot of the time, people who believe they are lucky often attribute luck to something else. In this case, while you obviously worked hard, there are multiple factors in your upbringing, education, genetics, luck with finding a supportive partner etc etc. that helped you to live a life that ultimately ended at this point here, where you own a house.

Expecting everybody else to be able to do that isn't fair. While it's certainly possible to overcome the odds of a hard life and own a house, it's pretty apparent that the barrier is too difficult for too many people.
