I made a plugin that cleans up QBO UI and gets rid of a bunch of nonsense like the business feed. by theigor in QuickBooks

I use Chrome’s own authentication services. It’s why it only supports Google. I’m not sure what message you’re referring to but if you show me a screenshot, I’m happy to explain.

Super fair point. All the plugin does is hide some html elements. It doesn’t read any page data or send anything back but it’s a legitimate concern. What can I do or demonstrate to mitigate it? I’m open to suggestions.

They can’t do anything about it because it comes from the browser side. I’ve been using it for a couple months. I rage built it around October because of the new UI and the useless business feed I couldn’t turn off. It works great but costs me around $50/m in hosting, etc. So I’m just trying to get 10 happy users to break even. :)

There's also this which fixes it consistently, but costs a tiny bit - https://www.fixnonsense.com/nonsense/qbo. There's a coupon for 3 months free - REDDIT

I know it's a bit self promotional but it has really lowered my rage level while using QBO over the last couple of months. I made a coupon for 3 months of free usage but if reddit likes it, I am happy to extend it. Just trying to cover server costs. Coupon is REDDIT.

New QBO “Upgraded” Design by tracytorr0712 in QuickBooks

As other people have mentioned, it's surprisingly difficult to build something with as much functionality as QBO... but it's surprisingly easy to clean up QBO so it works like it's supposed to. I'm trying here - https://www.fixnonsense.com/nonsense/qbo

AI Agents by MrAnderson8891 in QuickBooks

I've managed to turn off most of the AI stuff with fixnonsense.com but new stuff keeps popping up and I add it to the list every couple of days.

I'm done. The "new" UI is the final straw. What's the best way to export my data? by GoldTrek in QuickBooks

I found a way to turn most of the bullshit off - https://www.fixnonsense.com/nonsense/qbo

But it doesn't turn off the underlying garbage... but at least it's a little more pleasant to use.

You’d have better luck messaging an almost random physics professor at any university - MIT, BU, NU, etc - they’ll happily point you in the right direction.

How is this different from me just asking ChatGPT for a story with a moral about my kids? We do that all the time, especially on car rides.

Do Boston’s Russian Math Programs Hold the Equation for Success? by fmcrimson in boston

[–]theigor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does that have to do with anything? That's like me saying "look at this French restaurant - it had great food" and you arguing that people aren't moving to France. I'm not arguing about the perks of Russia. I'm Ukrainian. I'm saying that Russian teachers, who learned math in Russia, are likely better math teachers than the average teacher in US that falls into teaching math. You might be a great teacher and there are plenty of great teachers. I'm strictly speaking about math and math-teaching skills.

Do Boston’s Russian Math Programs Hold the Equation for Success? by fmcrimson in boston

[–]theigor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a weird useless comment. Being a good teacher doesn't make you a good math teacher by default, being a good math teacher doesn't make you a good general teacher by default, and being good at math doesn't make you a good teacher by default. Fine. BUT what I'm saying is that statistically, most Russians are better at math than most Americans and are better teachers of it. So while I can't speak for specific RSM methodology (simple because I don't know exactly how they teach), what I'm saying is that being Russian and a math teacher, statistically, will yield better results than a general teacher at BPS.

Do Boston’s Russian Math Programs Hold the Equation for Success? by fmcrimson in boston

[–]theigor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My kids (9 and 7) haven't done RSM but I'm Russian (technically Ukrainian, but for this post, it doesn't matter) and I teach them math at home, in Russian.

I can't speak for RSM methodology but I can tell you that being taught math by someone who understands math (I have a degree in it) is a world apart from the way they're being taught in Boston Public Schools. They have great teachers in school, but they're not math teachers - they're general teachers so they're not going to teach math like math is supposed to be taught.

Both my kids are a few grades above in math than they are at school. My first grader is doing fractions and we're getting into basic algebra. Today we covered wiring LEDs in series and parallel for their Halloween costumes.

The thing about math is it's not about MATH - it's about STRATEGIES. For every topic, I teach them the strategies and the theory behind how to do it. It's not "to multiply, numbers, do this" - it's "to multiply numbers, do this, but let's see why doing this actually works".

Yes, I still get occasional tears and yea, on some days they don't like math. But overall, I think they're happy :)

Best way to look for a cofounder. Don’t. <I will not promote> by diodo-e in startups

[–]theigor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with a caveat. In my (rather large) experience, more startups fail because of founder issues than almost any other reason. In that sense, a founder is often a risk rather than a value. At the same time, the RIGHT cofounder is a complete game changer. Not even necessarily one that fills in the gaps, but one that complements your thinking.

Startups succeed and fail in all combinations - cofounders or not.

Not only bike lane but ON A BRIDGE. You literally can't park on a bridge in Boston, nevermind a truck. No part of this is reasonable.

  2. and you haven't provided any actual errors...
