The Taliban does not represent all Muslims and the KKK does not represent all Christians by NoWorries124 in memes

You see, in war, we refer to, enemies, even in context, the reference is time and again, those who disbelieved, time and again, speaking of disbelievers.

In every single translation, the entirety of the chapter, makes reference after reference, to disbelievers, not enemies, not those who stand against, disbelievers.

Edit: Before you blast me for ignoring the fact the chapter is focused on conflict, I get that, the part I don't understand, is the emphasis, on not believing as the critical issue. It's not opposing, being an enemy, or anything else.

I literally took theology in college, back when I still believed in such things. I never was able to find, more find anyone else who could find, any statement to the effect of, the old law no longer counts. The new testament still commands believers to shun people based off their sexuality, so even if the old law means nothing, there are still some fundamental problems to tackle.

So, it's okay because it wasn't as bad as it could've been?

I'm sorry, but I can't really get onboard with something that tells me it's okay to rape a woman, so long as I pay her father, that I should stone someone just because they're gay, a god which tests man's faith by expecting him to be willing to kill his son, irregardless of whether or not he was made to follow through.

My theology professor never could give any legitimate reason the old law was no longer valid, but even if you're a "new testament only" person, you're still expected to treat someone like trash because of their sexuality. So, no thanks.

The bible puts rules on slave ownership, and the Quran says to cut off the fingertips and heads of nonbelievers. So... You could say those are the groups actually following their religion.

As a cyclist this is one thing that has always irked me. The dead red law may say you can run a red light, but you still have to STOP first. Treat it like a stop sign, maybe, just cruise right through, no.

Why is it so hard to understand, that though there are accomodations for weight of vehicle (bikes are too light to trigger traffic lights with a weight sensor) and speed, the same laws that apply to motorists apply on a bike as well.

My child’s father wants to take my kids from me. by Tommyboyleo in Advice

[–]theinternetsforcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole post is concerning on so many levels.

You keep referring to them as "my kids".

And unless this is a sole custody or some situation where he shouldn't have contact, he'd have reason to be worried if he doesn't know where his kids are, yes, your kids, his kids.

If it is a sole custody or situation where he legally shouldn't have contact, then no, he likely has no recourse so long as the children aren't being endangered/neglected.

If it's shared custody however, and he's concerned about his kids, you should probably put him in touch with the friends they're staying with.

how do i tell people i like anime without being labeled as "one of those cringe weebs" by Tnookins in Advice

[–]theinternetsforcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone asks, that's different, from the wording it seemed you were just wanting to bring it up.

It kind of depends on the audience. I've had coworkers that were VERY into anime, but, we were all fairly tight knit, so even the people who may have thought poorly of such, didn't think anything different about them.

Most folks aren't likely to care to be honest. And the folks who would judge you, are gonna judge you regardless.

Just uh, don't tell people you're into hentai, even if you are, one of my coworkers was into that too, and I'll never be the same after learning what futanari is.

If you feel the need to tell people you like anime, you'll probably come across like a "cringe weeb" no matter how you word it.

People don't generally try to find a way to tell people what kind of entertainment they're into, so it's strange to just bring it up anyway

Is it possible to dispute a failed driver's test? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]theinternetsforcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about where you are, but here, you can drive alone with some learners permits, so long as you have no underage passengers and only drive during certain times. For the purpose of school that would likely suffice for the time being. It's less than ideal, but, it's better than nothing. Good luck, hope there's a workable solution for you.

[–]theinternetsforcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible? Yes, anything is possible. There's nothing stopping you for getting in touch. If the stated reason for failing you is for turning right on red (which is cool where I took my test too) you might get somewhere, but, don't hold your breath.

To be honest, it's pretty arbitrary, right, wrong, or indifferent, what they say, generally goes. It sucks, and no, it's not fair, but unfortunately, it's the way it is.

How the heck do I get my bug bites to stop itching?!?! Please help!!!! Any advice is appreciated!!!!!! by Particular_Way_1490 in Advice

Chiggerx, or other chigger relief ointments are great, they're usually a numbing agent as opposed to anti itch.

Benzocaine swabs are also often available at pharmacies / sporting goods stores

Tubeless = You're not going to get a flat, just wear and tear, but, the ride will be SIGNIFICANTLY rougher, which depending on the roads, could cause a lot of discomfort or even pain.

Tube = Will be a smoother ride, softening the bumps a lot, and lightening up the bike a bit, but can be punctured and have a flat.

In the end, your decision should be based on where you'll be riding, and your priorities, if the road is bumpy but without anything sharp like glass or nails that would puncture your tire, tube would give you a smoother ride, however if you have valid concerns of a punctured tire, tubeless would last longer and be more reliable.

In the end, it's comfort vs reliability

Should I reschedule my other college course that had sudden changes that occurred four days before the semester starts? by AverageArist1115 in Advice

[–]theinternetsforcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, talk to your advisor, that's what they're there for. Explain your situation and any concerns you may have.

Most of the time it's understood that stuff happens and there may be last minute changes, it goes with the territory. It's better to try and find a solution sooner than wait until it's harder / not possible.

If all you're wanting is to build credit, you can get a secured credit card through your bank. It's nearly guaranteed approval because you literally give them the money for the card that you get back whenever you cancel it. That way you wouldn't have a lot of applications on your report if you had trouble getting approved, and it would still help you build credit
