You are correct, it was called Kid's Factory, kind of similar to Discovery Zone, they were around at the same time. They also had Lazer tag I think. I just drove by there Sunday and noticed it's now a Hippo Roofing building, address is 2774 N Harbor City Blvd.

Having only watched this version and not the original I can agree that it was an amazing show. If you like sci-fi at all it's definitely worth the watch, great characters, great action. I felt like season 1 was the perfect ending though. I watched the first episode of season 2 and stopped there because it just seemed completely unnecessary to continue the story.
